Local TV stations are going away. The borderline quality and the overall decline in the veracity of what is broadcast as “news” has cost even in the local markets.

Actually, I think it's Super Cool (tm) that they renovated the otherwise-crumbling vintage structure rather than build yet another box in the burbs and let the station go to the wrecking ball to be graded and developed as yet another "Mixed Use" project.

However, and I know this is picky but it's getting to be annoying. "Seven Burlington Station" every few minutes or so, as many times as they can work it into their patter! It's not as annoying as I found "Heartland" repeated ad nauseam back in the 1990s and 2000s at WOWT, but it's getting there!

Hint: KETV lurkers, give it a rest, please! :)

They prolly got a honkin' tax break.
Probably, but considering that it was an empty hulk and that no other rail service was interested, overall it’s a good thing to have them there.
Yeah, don't get me wrong, it's a good deal, especially since I don't live in Omaha...

As others have touched on, '7 Burlington Station' reeks of product placement when there's no real product to place--no one says "Change the channel to 7 Burlington Station", for example. #DamnConsultants

I mentioned this on my FB group: When there are no adults exhibiting editorial restraint, the kids are going to run roughshod over traditional journalism. The reporters on 3/6 are kids out of J-school--and look what they're teaching in college these days (looking at you, Missouri-Columbia)--with no editorial oversight to reign in their idealism. So we get 15-22 minutes a night of kids playing dress-up to impress each other.

This doesn't mean 7 is better, though. Difference is that they have Ariel Roblin as mother hen, shoving Hearst's agenda down the audience's throats. Much more blatantly partisan.

Omaha local news has gone from pretty quality to absolutely an embarrassment. With the caveat that I am not suggesting that Detroit tv news is the end all be all of local news nationally, I would just say that the late weekend local Fox affiliate edition of news is better than any Omaha cast, any time. I am attaching a channel 4 nbc local news cast. Take a look if you'd like & tell me that it isn't light years better and more professional that any Omaha cast.
I get that there just isn't a lot of money in local news in Omaha but what you guys have to put up with is a hot steamy pile of amateurish, brainless, unable to banter, horribleness.

https://www.clickondetroit.com/news/local-4-news-at-5/local-4-news-at-5-feb-19-2019

For reasons passing understanding you have to scroll down and pause the 11 AM local feature show. Then click on the news cast.

As the locals say "That's how we do it in the D!"
I saw that. Fox2 isn't the only one that crosses a line sometimes.

The morning news on 7 is far better than the ABC network morning news that follows in terms of bias. It is better that 6 or 3 in terms of content.

Yeah, I just can’t watch it. Clinton’s former chief of staff does all the political interviews and does not even try to hide his bias. The rest are coast libs to the core. I catch a few min frequently in the mornings, but I truly wished KETV went past 7.

Omaha has 2 stations with call letters K_TV. KMTV and KETV. I wonder why? Does that ever confuse anyone?

Yes, I've seen that guy's posts. It's a great trip down memory lane for longtime residents of Omaha. And when I said if it ever confused anyone about 2 Omaha stations having call letters that were K_TV, I meant anyone who didn't live in Omaha.

I figured when KETV hired Erin H, She’d hang around for a couple years in Omaha before moving on.. She’s a vagabond and doesn’t stick around a job for longer than a couple of years. Market #69 (Omaha) wasn’t large enough to hold her. She’s good and I liked her..but I don’t think she’s Market #20 or higher good yet. It’ll be interesting to see where she lands..she’s from Minnesota, so if it’s the Twin Cities Market she lands in, that’s a fairly big leap up the chain (to market #15)..

For Taylor Barth, she’s not leaving KETV because Market #69 wasn’t glamorous enough to keep her. She’s staying in Nebraska as she got a job at CHI Health in Lincoln...

Vagabond? She is young and figuring out what she wants to do. Based on her resume she graduated from drake in 2014 and then went to S Korea for 2 yrs. then KETV, so not a lot of jobs or experience

KETV seems to be Hearst’s talent incubator. Keep a solid crew here and flow talent through that they think wants to move up. Brush them up for a few years against real assignments and working with above market talent, then give them a chance.

Hearst seems to be the only one of the owners with outlets in higher-up DMAs. Gray likes small markets, I think Scripps is trying to be a player, but Hearst is a player. As much as I want a conservative voice in local station ownership, Sinclair (42) is |expletive|.

i agree with ths. it would be nice to have some right of center influence. But we are talking journalism. The conservatives get run out of the job in college and those that turn conservative after J school have a hard time advancing. I think I am happy with what we have. Channel 7 in the AM is my classic example. At 6:50, we get serious news and weather. At 7:10 we get left wing bias from GMA. It is just so stark, it is as if we changed channels.

Even though it happened last year, I've been finding myself watching KETV's coverage of a bizarre incident that occurred on I-480 where a cat held onto the top of his owner's van at 60 MPH.

It would appear McPike bailed on Omaha and has now landed in Norfolk, Virginia-

This has to be real recent considering he was still posting items on Social Media with KMTV as of April 4.

His Facebook page still shows KMTV. And still does not appear on WVEC's website.

Holy cow, I could have sworn I saw him Monday. If this means Audra gets more airtime, I'm jake w/ it.

I wondered how Ryan handled Jimbo LeFleur leaving and being passed over for the chief gig. At the time I assumed he was a PT WX guy and had a regular job, real estate or whatever. Guess not.

Usually in TV and Radio it's the management's call, not the on air people.

Jennifer Zeppelin confirmed that she is the chief meteorologist at KMTV. I guess I shouldn't be surprised. I mean, she does the weather for the evening newscasts, which is when the chief meteorologist does the weather. Meanwhile, Jennifer Griswold is still without a co-anchor after almost 5 months.

If I were Jen G., I'd be screaming bloody murder. Not that she doesn't get days off, but when she does, they replace her with one anchor. Everyone else in town uses two and having one smacks of disinterest on behalf of Scripps.

In other news, Waverle Monroe filled in for Chinh Doan on 7 this AM, and did a fine job.

Watching the 8 am local news on Channel 6 the female anchor told of a one vehicle accident on Center Street. She stated that police were investigating an accident, and that “police reportedly administered a SORORITY test to the vehicle’s driver.”
Must have been a woman behind the wheel.
Apparently she never learns from her mistake, as in the 8:30 virtual “repeat” of the previous half hour newscast, she did it again!

Don't necessarily blame the anchor. It's also possible that the unpaid intern, fresh off a night of binge drinking, came in without sleep and after cleaning the bathrooms and getting the rest of the crew donuts and coffee had to input the copy into the prompter. Of course, it could be that the anchor is also at fault.

Yeah, I bet it's not the anchor, it's the intern. Sat AM, the sports crawl showed the 'final' score of the Cubs-Cards game as 1-1.
