from Saturday Omaha.com -- Abdelmassih currently is an assistant at St. John’s and is known around the country as one of the top recruiters for players looking to transfer.

Doesn't it seem just a little bit strange that two of the three Div 1 Basketball coaches in Nebraska are former Iowa St coaches?

Voting on the floor starting next season. For me it was between 1 or 2, ended up voting 2.

Added another ‘former’ assistant

Charlie Henry is leaving his job as the head coach of the Windy City Bulls, Chicago’s G League team. Henry was an assistant at Iowa State under Hoiberg for the 2014-15 season, after spending a season as the director of player personnel. He followed Hoiberg to Chicago, and will again to Lincoln.

A huge addition. The Huskers seriously need a good point guard to run Hoiberg's system, right now they don't have one.
First, make sure Roby is staying put, then get someone who can run the offense to transfer to NU.
I would not be surprised if Abdelmassih were to get at least 4 transfer or JUCO players, that is what he is best doing.
NU's roster may be unrecognizable by next fall.

Yeah with the coaches he brought in and such, it definitely looks like they are really trying to recreate what they did at ISU including hitting the transfer marker.

Here is some pretty good updated coverage from the LJS after HCFH visited. Sounds like decision in a day or two and it was a positive visit

He's certainly off to a great start. Was trying to think who would currently hold that title. Craig Smith? Maybe someone for the Nee era?

Great pick. I agree.

Roster rebuild continues. Former 4 star coming, 3 years to play after sitting out next year:

Nebraska will be headed to the Cayman Islands in late November for a tourney. Not exactly a great line up of teams but probably just about right for us in a transition year. Would be a great place to go at that time of year. Also missed out on a recruit to Marquette:

The total roster makeover continues. Never seen anything quite like this. I think Nebraska will be really really hard to predict in the preseason standings. With so many new faces, that Italy tour this summer will definitely help. Latest roster addition:

Ohio shooting guard Samari Curtis joins Nebraska basketball's 2019 recruiting class

Curtis held offers from Nebraska, Xavier, Cincinnati and Dayton. He was named Mr. Basketball in Ohio and was a high-volume scorer. Curtis averaged 34 points and 5.8 assists as a senior, had games with 48 points and 52 points and twice had 47 points.

Also added - Tennessee transfer Derrick Walker -- Nebraska officially announced the addition of Walker, a 6-8 forward from Kansas City who will sit out next season and then have two seasons of eligibility remaining, Wednesday.

Roby leaving Nebraska will not work out well for either party. No way is anybody coming in going to be able to replace him. The odds of Nebraska getting beat like dogs in the BIg 10 this year just went up. Roby was in a bad spot. If he leaves now he will be lucky if he ever makes a NBA roster and if he stays hes going to get another ugly losing season at Nebraska.

Husker hoops' roster redo was a daunting task. Here is how Matt Abdelmassih did it
From April 2 to May 15, Nebraska added 11 players and filled every need. Hoiberg has been largely credited with the roster overhaul, as head coaches usually are.

But Abdelmassih, as the lead recruiter, was the tip of the spear. He was behind the rebuild with guidance from other coaches.

Will Nebraska win 16 games this year. I say highly unlikely. The only bad thing about this almost sure win bet is I have to wait until March to collect my winnings. It is not impossible but it is a reach indeed to think Nebraska could win close to half of its games. The Casinos are not even taking bets on the game tonight so it looks like Nebraska has the first win of the season in the bag.

Yeah I can't take away any positives from that game. Nothing seemed to work. Was the point spread almost 20 or am I way off on that?

I didn't know what to expect this year as I can't recall any team ever turning over a roster like Hoiberg did. Have no idea what's to come .

Greg

The point spread was 15

I was there and it was a cluster. No idea where this season will go. It is a throw-away season in some respects BUT this team was brought in to get a win out of the gate. The Huskers played OK for the first 5 Min and then nothing worked. Shot % and Free Throw % were unbelievably bad.

The one positive was that UC Riverside actually shot a great game. Its going to be tough to beat any team that is consistently making 3 pointers and long shots like UC Riverside was. UC Riverside might not be a very good team but on this night their shots were going down. This virgin Nebraska team is in no way ready to take on a team that can hit shots like that.

The shot % goes up dramatically if there is no defense present.

Nebraska all too often was trying to double team the guy with the ball. Sketchy coaching might of been at play here. If you are double teaming and they are efficiently getting the ball out of the double team to the uncovered player and that uncovered player is nailing shots then you are going to get killed. That is what happened.

One area I am not too worried about long term in our defense. One thing Doc's teams did well when he was the head coach at NU was play defense. He's in charge of that now so long term, not worried but it may take awhile.

If Nebraska is trying to get out of the rut that it has been in for decades......then why would we hire someone back who we had to fire because they were responsible for keeping us in a rut for years. Where is the sense in that line of thinking. Since when is that kind of illogical thinking ever yielded successful results? Are we now running a good old boys club here in Lincoln? I will answer my own question YES we are now running a good old boys club in Lincoln.

It looks like Nebraska is an 8 point favorite over Southern Utah tomorrow afternoon in Lincoln. Southern Utah has a 7 foot center. The 7ft center for UC Riverside dealt Nebraska fits. We would love to have a 7ft center playing for Nebraska. If these 2 sub par teams can find 7 ft Centers then Nebraska should be able to find one.
