This isn't good news, but a migrant child with a congenital heart defect died of complications at the Children's Hospital in Omaha after being transferred after receiving treatment and falling into a coma. Poor girl; it's national news because she is the sixth migrant child to die in government custody.

That’s not a bad little write up of Omaha in Forbes. Not much detail, but nice bit of pub for the city nonetheless...

It would seem those wonderful scooters have been the source of some more great publicity for Omaha recently. If posting this story does not get me banned from here nothing will

Omaha ranked #8 in US Cities with Best Work Life Balance according to metrics in work intensity, social equality, and livability. It's a good ranking as usually small to mid-size cities rank high in these types of reports. However, other than Colorado Springs, which ranked #9, Omaha is the smallest city in the top 10. The rest are major cities like San Francisco, New York and Boston or highly desirable metros for culture and/or weather like San Diego, Portland, and Seattle.

Saw this in Reddit. It's international news, but I counts, right? Different kind of exposure for our small city.

A rock in Omaha became an overnight attraction thanks to the cars that can't seem to avoid it
CNN wrote:The rock, which rests inconspicuously in a parking lot median at N 156th St., has become Omaha's hottest new tourist attraction thanks to a vibrant Facebook group, Reddit community, and a 5-star Google Maps rating that features photos of cars, trucks, and SUVs wedged on its perch.

There are small towns around Nebraksa that would kill for publicity like this. Maybe we better make sure the rock doesn't get stolen! Of course, with all the protective cars over it, that might not be a problem.

Anybody see that new Verizon commercial advertising their 5g with Omaha as one of first the cities. It's not particularly flattering, but it is a national commercial with an Omaha scene in the background.

I like it, good name exposure for Omaha even if it mentions being frigid. I like that we are included with some very large cities like Houston, DC and Chicago in the commercial.

Was watching the Clippers/Nuggets game on ESPN tonight and a Verizon 5G commercial came on where a guy talks about his data speeds in "frigid Omaha". The camera cuts away to other people in different cities and then comes back to the Omaha guy and you can see the FNB Tower and the twins in frame.

Yeah- minus the “frigid Omaha” stereotype reference, I think it’s a pretty good national commercial that gives Omaha some rep...

I've been watching Veep, which comedy about the vice president and her aspirations to become president. There are a couple episodes where she travels to Omaha and Council Bluffs. in the world of Veep, anyone who wants to run for president significantly increases their chances by attending the Madison-Monroe dinner in Council Bluffs. It's a take on the Harkin Steak Fry that used to exist in Indianola. She wants to keep her intention to run for president a secret though, and uses a charity event in Omaha as the reason for going. In a show that is a satire of DC politics and east coast elitism, there weren't really huge digs at Omaha or Council Bluffs. However, at one character's suggestion that they stay over night and fly back to DC in the morning, Veep says no, implying she wants to spend as little time in Omaha/CB as possible. They really don't show any shots of either city or representations of their people but they do show what is supposed to be a jetway and tarmac at Eppley. Since the show was filmed in Maryland at the time, I'm gonna guess BWI was Eppley's stand-in.

In a later episode she comes back a second time to go to the same dinner. In this episode there are again no jokes at either city's expense, nor any scenes around the city with the exception of the parking lot outside the dinner venue. Here they tried to show it's in the Omaha area by putting Nebraska plates on Veep's caravan of black SUVs, but they used the plate design from the early '90s and both SUVs were registered in county 12 which is Niobrara (...????)

This article does not talk about Omaha, but it does use Omaha South High School as the article's lead picture. Omaha and Nebraska is getting so much exposure during this pandemic, mostly for UNMC's efforts, that even the high schools are showing up in national news articles.

Nice find! I thought it was unusual that among the big businesses from Omaha, they named InfoUSA, and not one of the other big names from here like Kiewit or Werner. Before reading that summary, I had no knowledge about InfoUSA. I am also surprised that while the usual big names are mentioned in these types of summaries or lists, I don't think I have ever seen it noted that Omaha has a couple of the largest architectural firms in the US or the large niche recruiting companies like C&A, Medical Solutions, or Fusion.
