Club seat holders got ticket offer about a month ago. I think that was followed with CWS ticket holders.

Wasn't the next level of tickets offered to the Stormchaser season ticket holders? Seemed to remember this from when it was announced because it is a MLB KC Royals territory? May be wrong on this and haven't went to look again.blueblood wrote: Tue Feb 19, 2019 1:05 am Club seat holders got ticket offer about a month ago. I think that was followed with CWS ticket holders.

So, any word when they go on sale to the general public? Will it even get that far before they announce a sellout?

Re: MLB in Omaha
Is it just me or has there been pretty much zero talk and hype around this game locally? This boggles my mind as the game isn't even officially sold out yet. There are still standing room only tickets available. Tickets aren't going for a premium online. I've even had people I know at work along with friends and family tell me they forgot it was even happening or hadn't even heard about it.
I've seen no commercials on TV. There haven't been any stories hyping it much in the newspaper, etc. It's bizarre.
I know the Royals and Tigers aren't a sexy matchup this year, but this is still the first in season MLB game ever in this city and the first regular season Big Four league game conducted in this city since the KC/Omaha Kings played at the Civic.
Even with a poor matchup, there are ways to generate interest locally.

Hmm, as this gets closer, this is cooler than I thought, when you put it as "the first big four in Omaha since..." I'm sure it'll be a full house, all said and done. And it's on ESPN primetime. This should be great for the city.

Lots of Tix
on StubHub starting at $11. Granted, they are mainly pairs in the outfield. We snagged two different pairs in the same section and adjacent rows in left field for our family of four

Other than standing room only, the game is sold out. There's really no benefit to the promotes to advertise this game. The tickets sold quickly so no advertisements needed.omaha79 wrote: Sat Jun 08, 2019 1:53 am Is it just me or has there been pretty much zero talk and hype around this game locally? I was down in KC for Friday's game (part of Big Slick weekend down there-highly highly recommended). At the main Kauffman team store they first thing you saw when you walked in was MLB in Omaha merchandise. They had both black and grey t shirts, hoodedsweatshirts, mini bats, lanyards, hats and a few other items. Was cool to see that they are selling the stuff in KC too.

At this point, is there anywhere to buy this merchandise in Omaha? The Storm Front team store had nothing yesterday. I've not heard of Lawlors or the store downtown selling anything. Is it going to be day of game only in the stadium?Greg S wrote: Mon Jun 10, 2019 2:40 pmOther than standing room only, the game is sold out. When I mention promotion, this is part of it. I've been shocked that I'm not seeing Hy-Vee selling MLB in Omaha T-Shirts or mugs, etc.
It's an easy way to make some money and generate a little more hype. I just know so many people that have forgotten it's even happening.

This is still a big deal for Omaha. It’s not a sexy matchup, but will look great for Omaha on ESPN. Especially since the stadium will be sold out. KC was always such a good team back in the 80’s . But now it’s difficult for small market teams to compete in MLB, as the league has built in advantages for bigger market clubs. Maybe the Royals should play this game in Omaha every year.

I would be down with the Royals playing a MLB game, or even a 3 game “home-stand” in Omaha every year...

Unless KC was willing to give up marquee matchups against the Yankees, Cardinals, Cubs, or Red Sox, I think Omaha would struggle if this became an annual 3 game series. I really do. This game sold out, but it wasn't immediate, and tickets are pretty plentiful now on the secondary market. I heard a number of people complaining about the price of tickets to this and how they could get tickets for a game in KC much cheaper.Omaha Cowboy wrote: Tue Jun 11, 2019 4:11 amWell, the small market Royals did win the World Series pretty recently in 2015..Cermak wrote: Tue Jun 11, 2019 2:49 am KC was always such a good team back in the 80’s . I think it becomes diminishing returns for KC and Omaha. IF they keep it as a novelty and do it sporadically, there will be interest. If they started doing it every year and played teams like Detroit or the Chicago White Sox, I think Omaha would grow bored with it pretty quickly and it wouldn't draw any more than a typically Thursday or Friday at the K.

I don't think this involves KC giving up a marquee matchup. It will be based on MLB's schedule. It will be different teams coming in to face KC each year based on their schedule. Some years it will be big name teams others not. KC will be struggling again next year but you should see KC on the rise by 2021.omaha79 wrote: Tue Jun 11, 2019 11:55 amUnless KC was willing to give up marquee matchups against the Yankees, Cardinals, Cubs, or Red Sox, I think Omaha would struggle if this became an annual 3 game series. Yeah tickets in KC are cheaper (not a ton though) but gas and time wipe out the savings. Was there Friday night for White Sox game and paid $25 each for the higher tickets in the third deck....

Yeah, I think the ticket cost argument is a dumb argument...but, I've had it multiple times since tickets went on sale for this game. Even though KC is struggling, you're not going to get lower level tickets typically through the ticket office for under $60. That's just the cost of a MLB game at this point.Greg S wrote: Tue Jun 11, 2019 1:52 pmI don't think this involves KC giving up a marquee matchup. It will be based on MLB's schedule. But, that's kind of the point. We aren't used to paying those prices. Unless it's Husker Football or CWS, we tend to expect $10 tickets and free parking in this market. For a one off, I think it was easy to market and sell tickets, especially so close to the CWS, but if you make this an annual thing and the opponents aren't great, and KC isn't great, Omaha will lose interest in this as a recurring event pretty quickly.
That's just my prediction, but I think the secondary market pricing on these tickets tends to bear that out to an extent. We are going to have chamber of commerce weather on Thursday and the market for these tickets is bottoming out on Stubhub and other outlets. $60 to $80 tickets are going for $25 after Stubhub fees roughly.

Honestly this could go either way. You possibly lose momentum or it becomes a tradition. One thing that actually worked against this game is the the Storm Chasers Royals exhibition. We just saw KC in a much more intimate setting in March (with tickets in the $25 range). You won't have that next year. Also, if this heads the direction we are being lead to believe and we get the MLB draft too, we'd get that additional promotion/advertising you are looking for.omaha79 wrote: Tue Jun 11, 2019 2:16 pmYeah, I think the ticket cost argument is a dumb argument...but, I've had it multiple times since tickets went on sale for this game. wasn't there discussion early on that if this became a yearly game before the CWS there may be a waver by KC to allow another teams to play in their footprint withouut KC being in the game every year? I've not heard that such a waiver has been granted, but any game in Omaha requires permission from the Omaha Storm Chasers since they own territorial rights to the city. In fact, my understanding is KC can't even conduct a game here without Omaha's permission. Now, no affiliate that values their relationship would ever say no to such a request from their parent club...another franchise, on the other hand, is a different story.nebugeater wrote: Tue Jun 11, 2019 5:28 pmwasn't there discussion early on that if this became a yearly game before the CWS there may be a waver by KC to allow another teams to play in their footprint withouut KC being in the game every year? But now it’s difficult for small market teams to compete in MLB, as the league has built in advantages for bigger market clubs. Maybe the Royals should play this game in Omaha every year.
I would be down with the Royals playing a MLB game, or even a 3 game “home-stand” in Omaha every year...
Ciao..LiO...Peace
I think it becomes diminishing returns for KC and Omaha. IF they keep it as a novelty and do it sporadically, there will be interest. If they started doing it every year and played teams like Detroit or the Chicago White Sox, I think Omaha would grow bored with it pretty quickly and it wouldn't draw any more than a typically Thursday or Friday at the K.
Yeah tickets in KC are cheaper (not a ton though) but gas and time wipe out the savings. Was there Friday night for White Sox game and paid $25 each for the higher tickets in the third deck....
Greg
Greg
I think for another MLB team to play a home game in Omaha, it would require both the Omaha Storm Chasers and KC Royals to grant that permission, but I may be wrong about that KC part of that. It gets a little vague on territorial rights.
I remember being told that I was nuts that a minor league team could say no to a team playing in their home city, but I've had it reiterated to me that it's absolutely correct, by people that I trust.
So, I'm not saying it's impossible for the Chicago Cubs and St. louis Cardinals to play here, but it's going to require some wheels being greased to make it happen.

Omaha's MLB territorial rights are held by Kansas City.

Well, I dunno..
I believe Omaha is an excellent event city. I also have faith that Omaha area residents will shell out more bucks for top notch major league sports than the minor league sports the community has been subjected too..
One could say apples and oranges, but Omahans shell out major bucks for March Madness tickets at the arena and also for the Olympic Swim trials. I don’t believe that a once a year game or series will deter Omaha residents as it relates to the cost of the tickets..
Perhaps I’m wrong.. But being a guy who pretty much attended every Omaha Nighthawks football game and saw 20,000 in the stands for minor league football.. Leads me to believe the city can sustain a once a year Major League Baseball game or 3 one time a year regardless the ticket cost...

From afar (Hawaii), I've had difficulty finding anything thru web searches about this which shows that the national buzz has been light...What I think makes this event even more interesting is that Michigan is returning (after 35 years) to the CWS the same year that their state's MLB team is participating in this event.omaha79 wrote: Sat Jun 08, 2019 1:53 am Is it just me or has there been pretty much zero talk and hype around this game locally?

Yes! This is my point on promotion. I feel there has been way more "buzz" on similar games like the series in London, the game in Williamsport, or the game at Fort Benning. ESPN hasn't been hyping it at all and I"m not seeing anything from MLB either. Usually, I'd get an email blast saying to tune in or something. Nope.gandrew22 wrote: Wed Jun 12, 2019 6:05 amFrom afar (Hawaii), I've had difficulty finding anything thru web searches about this which shows that the national buzz has been light...What I think makes this event even more interesting is that Michigan is returning (after 35 years) to the CWS the same year that their state's MLB team is participating in this event.omaha79 wrote: Sat Jun 08, 2019 1:53 am Is it just me or has there been pretty much zero talk and hype around this game locally? I blame the local media for this too. Why hasn't the OWH been running a story a day for the last week about what having a "major league" game means to the community. Profiles on the big league players of note we will see including future hall of famer Miguel Cabrera. stories on when MLB players barnstormed here in the past. The minor league team. Instead, it's constant Maurice Washington coverage and talk of upcoming fall practice. Yes, it's a bad game, but if you can't sell the steak, sell the sizzle. Marketing 101.
That and the lack of merchandise are the two things that really stick with me that are no brainers that they just haven't done. In most ways, I consider the lack of hype surrounding this game to be a failure.

On the merchandise side, I know the Royals did a bunch. I saw it at their team store Friday Night at Kauffman Stadium. It's pretty nice, both grey and black t shirts, black sweatshirts, wood bats, hats, lanyards, and a couple other items. My friend was at the game at Kauffman last night and looked for it. Was told it had all been packed up and was in route to Omaha for sale at the game. If you want it though I would buy early at the game. I don't know how much they have as it seemed to be selling in KC.omaha79 wrote: Wed Jun 12, 2019 11:51 amYes! This is my point on promotion. There's a bunch of stuff going on downtown at bars and such (the Chasers have something going on at the Mattress Factory. I think this will be a really cool event.

I'm getting off work at 1:30 tomorrow. There is an out of town "ballpark club" that I belong to. people that visit ballparks across the country. We are getting together at Zipline at 2:30. I'm going to try to check out merch, if possible, before that and get in the ballpark when gates open. I want to check out the whole experience.

I agree, the hype for this has been low. I’m still excited about it plus the weather looks good tomorrow and I think it can still be a great event. I can only imagine if it was the Cubs or St Louis it would carry a bigger buzz with it. Still very few non MLB cities can say they have hosted an official game like we will have tomorrow. It should be a big feather in Omaha’s cap. TD Ameritrade Park is the best non MLB ballpark in the country.

The lack of buzz is surprising to me. Very little if any media coverage in the days leading up to it from local outlets, very few if any promotional spots on ESPN. There was more coverage leading up the exhibition game in March than there is for this.

I think we take for granted just how solid of a marketing team the Omaha Storm Chasers have put together. They are great at "selling the sizzle" so to speak. They aren't involved in this, because frankly, they don't have any skin in the game on this event.WBR_Tom wrote: Wed Jun 12, 2019 6:43 pmAgreed. I think there is some arrogance from MLB, KC Royals, MECA, etc. I think they pretty much think that we should be so lucky to have a game such as this here and if there are any pockets of empty seats tomorrow, that's more on us than on anything they did. They graced us with a pro game. We should lap it up without asking.
But, I will put money on this, if there are any pockets of empty seats, this won't happen again.

Yeah there won't be pockets of empty seats to a sold out game. No need to market a game that sold out in a week, if you have tickets you know about it.omaha79 wrote: Wed Jun 12, 2019 8:19 pmI think we take for granted just how solid of a marketing team the Omaha Storm Chasers have put together. It may have been sold out in a week, but that link isn't really what I'm talking about. Check Stubhub, Ticketexchange, TicketExpress, and Red Zone Tickets and you'll see literally thousands for sale for up to 1/3 face value.cp jay 07 wrote: Thu Jun 13, 2019 4:23 pmYeah there won't be pockets of empty seats to a sold out game. It’ll be interesting to find out if this game was an actual sellout (as in no empty seats) or was a paper Tiger (pardon the pun Detroit baseball fans)..
I’m going to go out on a limb and predict this game will be an actual sellout...

Just bought t shirts and the lady told me sales have been fantastic.
