Coming back home, Lopez gets a HR, but nobody saw it on ESPN.

This is in the books, I would consider it a success. Fantastic weather. Except for the technical TV glitch everything went seamless, Great publicity for Omaha !

In any case, this was a win for Omaha. The stands looked full for the most part. Great camera shots of downtown Omaha and the stadium. This was a Chamber of Commerce dream come true. I kept flipping between the NBA Finals and our Omaha MLB game..

It was a good sports night for both Toronto and Omaha...

Big E just tuned in for the late innings I guess. Place was packed tonight, if they don't come back it wont be for lack of attendance.

Perfect night. Great weather. Great crowd. Crowd was late arriving, but I think it's a combination of Thursday night and a lot of first timers at the game. I heard traffic around the stadium was a nightmare, which would have contributed to it.

The only negatives were the long concession lines and the terrible luck of having Alex Gordon get injured the night before the game. That, and ESPN missing something like half the game from what I heard?

IMO, one of the cooler sporting events Omaha has ever hosted.

Everything looked great on tv except for the technical difficulties. The good thing is, they kept checking back in the studio and would mention Omaha several times. Don't know if they meant to but after the game the said "Nice win for the Omaha Royals". My hope is that they can do this again, but maybe with the Cubs or Rockies next time.

Yeah other than MECA and the concessions not keeping up it was fantastic.

Bummer on Gordon but Lopez hitting his first career MLB homer at his former college home kind of make up for it.

If this continues it will almost always be the Royals. This is their home market. There may be the odd year where the pass but I don't see it every being rotating teams. If you look at the Little League Game-MLB, it's always the Pirates or Phillies.

If they do this next year, it won't be against either the Cubs or Cards as they are going to London June 13-14, so they won't also send them to Omaha a week later for 1 game.

That was the biggest crowd I have ever been a part of at TD.

Gary Sharpe on 1620 was blasting "MECA's total incompetence in running this ballpark for any event not called the CWS."

Basically said that if MECA can't handle basic functions like concessions and ticket taking, we need to find an facility management company that can. He said that we've had these issues consistently at events like the B1G tournament. How can half the registers be closed at an event that's been sold out for months?

I can't comment on this as we bought concessions a good hour prior to first pitch. But, those debacles were on my mind knowing that if we wanted anything, we better buy early. crazy that they couldn't fix it for last night.

I wasn't there last night but I cannot image it could have been any worse than the first B1G champ game when the Huskers played Indiana in 2014 I have never witnessed anything as botched as this with concessions, seats open, ushers, ticket takers, teck window sales all being a total disaster.

Maybe MECA was too preoccupied stressing over who hacked into their computer system and stole nearly $300,000 from their coffers :lafcry: ..

I smell a MECA rat here...

Checking the TDAPO twitter feed last night (@tdameritradeprk) there were many complaints about the slow concessions; that's not surprising. What WAS surprising to me is that TDAPO's responses all said that their volunteers were working hard!! Bring out the bake sale crews for the CWS, not a sold out MLB game. Who thought not having food & beverage veterans was a good move?!

Nice job MECA. Throw the volunteers under the bus. Was it their fault half the registers were closed at certain stands?

And "volunteers" is a carefully chosen use of words. The organisations they are representing are getting paid so at some level they are not volunteers.... they are just not well trained.

In agreement on the impossibility of that, but that MLB game did seem to kickstart the first weekend of the CWS. I do wonder if this became an annual event, if the affect it has on interest in the CWS could necessitate expansion of TD Ameritrade. I think I remember they designed the ball park to be expanded to 35,000 if it ever became needed. I'd be really interested to see THAT happen someday, though I dont count on it any time soon.

35k is the number I've read as well. You can tell how it would happen. You can see where the beams allow for a second level of suites above the first level. You can also see that the 300 level seats are a semi permanent metal structure that is relatively easily removable should they want to add another permanent deck that goes further out. There are also beams at the end of the 200 level that go to nowhere.

Yeah I kind of figured we'd get an announcement this week as well.

They had those rumors about the draft being held at Holland. Anybody else think that would be too small? Doesn't seem like it would accommodate fans. If I had the opportunity to go to the MLB draft I would.

I listened to 810 out of KC the day after the game and they did indicate that the Royals loved how everything went down and seemed to want to continue it. Lots of others involved so their willingness alone won't get there but it seems they are fully on board.

we aren't even halfway through the CWS. It wouldn't shock me if the announcement is after the CWS, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was during the championship series too.

It looks like the official announcement for this years game was made by MLB on Thursday, June 21, 2018. That would be the Thursday before the Champ series, the equivalent of two days from now.

Grow Omaha's guest this past Saturday mentioned about the MLB draft move to Omaha again, but it was more speculation than anything. It would be cool to consolidate all those events around CWS and would really benefit the kids playing who also get drafted. I am not sure how they would schedule everything, but I imagine, those would be in the draft would just stick around town even if their team is eliminated early or arrive early even if their team isn't already there. In any case, it's all rumors for now, but it would add another event that could be an economic boon to the Metro. BTW does any one know how well attended the draft is? Like do the kids who are projected to be picked in the first round attend, and everyone else stays home? How does that work with 1200 picks?

I think the hope is, every year, there is MLB game match up at TD Ameritrade to kick off the CWS. Moving the MLB Draft to Omaha makes complete sense. The CWS will be playing in Omaha through at least 2035. This would be a perfect marriage for MLB, College baseball and Omaha..

This would be a fantastic series of “gets” for Omaha...

there was talk on 590 or 1620, don't remember witch, about this earlier this week. They said that there were only two players that were at this years draft to hear their names called. The people there to watch were little to none.

Yeah I would assume if it comes here they will change things up. I assume that means having more players on site and such. Right now what they are doing isn't really as well received as the other major sports, hence looking at moving it.

An entire article on the food lines at the CWS. I would definitely disagree that people waited at the MLB game. I was in a really long line before the game started (about 20 minutes before the start), and I had walked to try and find "short" ones.

I found the link for this article in the Omaha ESPN one.

Pretty cool on the reach for MLB teams. The Royals have the highest ratio of out of town fans.
