I finally went up to the L&C monument in CB yesterday to get a photo of Omaha and wouldn't you know the overcast haze was horrible - so I ask - what weather conditions is needed to get a crisp air during the fall? I know there are crisp days in the winter - but when there is color out?

Not a meteorologist, but I would start with a cloudless day with no chance of rain in the next 48 hours to start with!
More seriously, I would shoot for a day where we have several consecutive days with near-freezing temps in the morning and get up there fairly early in the morning to shoot.

Similar to what he said, wait for a period of several cool days followed by a marked warm up day. That warm up day it should be clear (if it's not then I probably failed my most recent geography test!!).

I've become rather sensitive to this in pursuit of my amateur astronomy hobby (anyone interested in astronomy... I host another website alongside eomaha.com ... http://www.omahaastro.com
).
Wait for a strong cold front to pass through... followed by a high pressure system settling over us.

A lot of times the air is clearest shortly after a good rain. The rain cleans particulates out as is falls.

That would be the cold front passing through.

Thanks for the warning - I didn't read it though until noon - and by that time it was all overcast. What time in the morning does the L&C park open anyway - it just says the gates are closed at 10:00 pm

Coyote - I'm not sure what time the park opens, I would guess it's open no later than 8 am. I've never had occasion to go up there that early.
Looks like maybe Sunday or Wednesday mornings will be the next best bets for clear sky shots.

Mark,
Those turned out good. How early did you get there? I am guessing by the shadows 9 or 10?

I'd like to invite more people to try this vantage point... perhaps icejammer (or Streets) can remind me what the name of the street is.

Probably Parkwild Avenue, or maybe from Fairview Cemetary at Oakland Ave and Lafayette?

Very nice photo, Coyote. I think the park opens at 8:00 AM but I have been there at 7:45 before.

Thanks Eric. I don't think I'll head up there tomorrow morning for another shoot.
I took some pictures today for my sister who works for the Dir of PR for Talbots in Boston and came up with this for her:

So I also did the sketching to that photo.
