I've gone there a few times over the years as my office is nearby and it was astonishing how the staff there could consistently maintain being the most incompetent fast food workers I've ever seen anywhere in my life. Despite it being a block from my office if I was REALLY craving Wendy's I'd make the trip down to 132 and L.

A complete no loss..
Not only was the employee staff incompetent, but the place was a health risk. The condition of the rest rooms there were.. uh, well- an abomination.. Hopefully they bulldoze that entire building just to erase its existence...

It seems to be getting like that at many places anymore. It's not acceptable to act/work that way at places like Chic-Fil-A and In-&-Out Burger. Workers there are always happy and helpful -- like in the 1950's. They are trained that way. So, I don't feel any of these other places have any excuses.JDJase wrote: Tue Jul 02, 2019 1:57 am I've gone there a few times over the years as my office is nearby and it was astonishing how the staff there could consistently maintain being the most incompetent fast food workers I've ever seen anywhere in my life. I think Burger King is one of the worst, for workers attitudes -- in general. (I'm not saying every location.) I've heard stories and had experiences that made you wonder if you were being unbelievably tested, like on an episode of "Punked." Yet, I like Burger King once in awhile...
I can get pushed out because I'm "too much" for some. Then, an observer of me comes suddenly swooping in to "fill my shoes." People are always more accepting of the new one, because their feathers aren't truly ruffled by them. (Yawn) I can count on it every time.

Re: Wendy's at 120th & Center Closed
Some of it has to do with the low unemployment rate. Fast food restaurants have always been scraping the bottom of the barrel for employees, but couple that with Nebraska having the 10th lowest unemployment rate in the country (currently 3%, but keep in mind that 4% is generally considered 100% employment). They just can't get people and they're too darn stubborn to pay more (especially the franchised locations). It's basic supply and demand. If your demand for good employees willing to work at that rate far exceeds the supply, then you're going to have to either pay more or hire horrible people. It seems that so many of the national chains have opted for the latter. Even if they do luck out and manage to hire somebody decent they don't last once they've experienced their coworkers (and in some places their awful clientèle).
I generally walk into any fast food restaurant with low expectations. I'm never expecting gourmet food or stellar service. However, even my extremely low expectations don't always prepare me for the train wreck that ensues. I will say that Chick-fil-A is an exception usually, but that's because they carefully crafted a culture there that makes easier to recruit and retain decent employees. I've heard at Chick-fil-A that if you F-bomb you get a warning and then you get fired (I'd never last there). No exceptions. Consequently, it's become a haven for decent employees who don't want to work with the idiot delinquents staffing most other fast food restaurants.

Another thing to consider about Chick Fil A vs other fast food chains (Like Wendy’s) is they’re closed on Sunday and only scheduling employees on a six day work week as opposed to 7. That is an attractive “incentive”...

I went for a burger to BK on 114th. About 60% of the order was wrong. I just gave up and went from an empty BK to Chik filet on 123rd. Packed. Despite being busy, they got my order right on the first try. Sorry, not eating at McD’s after getting raw meat and am done with incompetent drive throughs. Given the relative crowds, I don’t think I am alone.

Most of the Wendy's in Omaha are a disgrace and we are seeing them slowly close. outdated stores, terrible service, unclean. First 54th and L, now 120th and Center. I think there was another one too.
And, I agree BK isn't much better. Ate at the one on 30th and Dodge years ago as it was close to my work. One of my co-workers got glass in his fries. never again.

I think another “newer” Wendy’s is still in The L street shopping center at around 125th and L not far from this Wendy’s on west center that recently closed. Omaha probably didn’t need two Wendy’s so close together. I wonder what will go in the closed Wendy’s or maybe it will be torn down. This property on west Center is prime land, doubt it sits idle very long. But Wendy’s best days seem to be in the rear view mirror.

Aren’t most of these franchises, if so, then the problems lie with the owners not being as actively involved.

Yes. I've heard the Omaha franchise owner isn't great.Uffda wrote: Wed Jul 10, 2019 11:35 am Aren’t most of these franchises, if so, then the problems lie with the owners not being as actively involved.
But, I'd still put some of the blame on Wendy's for not more actively enforcing franchise standards. This wouldn't happen with some chains.

Omaha's Wendy's franchise is owned by an outfit in Illinois. They did have a local office in the strip mall at108th and Q at one point, I believe. I'm not sure if it still exists.

Agreed. That’s a main reason why I don’t eat at Wendy’s in general and Wendy’s Omaha area locations in particular...omaha79 wrote: Wed Jul 10, 2019 8:55 pmYes. Corporate-owned locations are almost always better off then franchised locations. Franchisees are notorious for cutting corners (especially on maintenance and upkeep). I was told all of the Taco Bells in Omaha were sold by Taco Bell corporate to a franchisee in Texas a couple of years ago. Most of the burger chains in town have always been franchises.

Not that I'm defending BK, but in their defense, when Simmonds owned them, they were much better. The one by me off Blair Hwy took a fast downward spiral after the change of franchises. Lucky to see more than 5 vehicles in the parking lot and one in the drive thru.

Simmonds made their money on BK and focused a lot of attention on them, particularly the one on 114th and Dodge where they had to go hand to hand against Buffet's favorite Dairy Queen and McD's. Once they sold, the new owners don't seem to care that this is a chance to stick it to the richest people in the world.bbinks wrote: Fri Aug 09, 2019 12:49 pm Not that I'm defending BK, but in their defense, when Simmonds owned them, they were much better. Their menus and recipes are just about interchangeable. I believe that d’leon’s is out of Lincoln. Abelardo’s is not a Nebraska based company, to my knowledge.bbinks wrote: Wed Sep 11, 2019 11:28 pmHow do they rank with Abelrado's?nativeomahan wrote: Wed Sep 11, 2019 10:23 pm A banner posted on the building indicates that the this will become the city’s newest d’leon’s Mexican place.
Speaking of Abelardo’s, for months they have had their huge yellow sign up on the old Ozark Smoked Meat building off 114 and West Center Rd., but they have to my knowledge never opened. Any idea why?

I am still saddened by the demise of Ozark Smoked Meats though. For years, they had quality BBQ and their Burnt Ends and homemade beef jerky were excellent.. then the place went downhill..
In any case, it’ll be interesting to see how this new fast Mexican restaurant shakes out at 120th and Center...

Re: Wendy's at 120th & Center Closed
Abelardo’s has done their best to pretty much saturate the city with locations. And d’leon’s will have at least 3 locations in town that I am aware of. Possibly four.
Back when the Abelardo’s on north 90th Street was Alvarado’s I fell in love with their breakfast burrito, which of course you could order 24/7. That particular item is missing from the Abelardo’s menu, sadly.
Alvarado's/Abelardo’s was/is still a guilty pleasure for me. The prices have shot up over the years, but where haven’t they?
I have my favorite Mexican places here in Omaha, but after experiencing life as a local in México I must say that nothing here holds a candle to the freshness, variety and taste you can find even in the simple street taquerias south of the border. The full service places would be considered gourmet restaurants by Omaha standards.

There used to be a Wendy's on 108th between L and Q. Too bad. It was a good location. There was one on 33rd and Cornhusker here in Lincoln, but it closed a few years ago. It's now a barbecue place.
