Six days in Omaha; too long?!

I'm considering moving to Omaha and I wanted to check out the city before I signed the lease on the new apartment (smart, right?!). Anyway, I am visiting Omaha next month in the middle of August. I arrive on Tuesday and leave on Sunday. Is that too much time in Omaha? Will there be enough for me to do/see to fill up all of those days? I like going on walking tours and things like that; however, TripAdvisor only lists like, one walking tour in Omaha. Am I missing something?! I do plan on visiting the Zoo (that will take up one day), but I'm concerned that I will sitting in the AirBnb for much of the time.

I would get a room at Harrahs Casino on the tenth floor looking out over the Missouri River at downtown Omaha. 3 restaurants are on the property and a bar. You don't have to gamble to stay there.

The zoo could be two days.
24th street’s Mercado district is a great place for a bite.
The Old Market is still going strong.
Dundee is holding its own, but seems a bit forced for my taste.
Benson has First Fridays that are fun and has a lot of bars for the 20-35 set. For those of us graybeards, the special events are fun, but I normally go elsewhere.
The area of restaurants that I find handy in 120th street. Center has a great Vietnamese place and a bar with delicious food (Report Inn Pub). Highly recommend the French dip and baby bakers. Pacific has several delicious places. Dodge has Jerico’s which has improved their decor and menu. Prime is as good as ever. Blonde has Med. bistro and Taxi’s as well as a bunch of smaller places.

Why I like that street’s restaurants for new people is that you don’t have to drive all over if you suddenly decide that you aren’t hungry for what you originally wanted. Also, none of these places are fru fru or uppity. And, Shucks does fish to order. You hit the market, pick out a piece and their chefs will cook it any way you like.

I think in six days you would run out of the typical touristy things to do. I think at the end of your stay, it would be helpful to get a hotel somewhere in your preferred area for two nights and just "live". Go to the grocery store, go get gas, walk around the neighborhood, go on a bike ride, go to a nearby park, visit some of the restaurants, go to the stores that cater to your interests go to a local bar if you're into it.

You know, kinda just act like its a Saturday/Sunday and do what you would normally do over your weekend.

6 days? You won’t have anything left to do when you finally move here.

You haven’t indicated your general area of employment. Although the commutes aren’t your typical SoCal Commutes and given your worries about snow, you still might want to take time to drive possible routes in the morning and evening.

Hi Rose. There are many different areas of Omaha, each with their own personality. Depending on things like income, transportation, amount of people in your household, and just the type of place that you are used to living in, the recommendations will vary greatly.

I drive a tiny car in the snow and it goes great with snow tires. The most important part is that you learn how to drive properly on the snow and ice.
