How is this any different from what Omaha has already done? Why is he so worked up about La Vista doing it vs. Omaha? I'm confused. Or, is it just a political ploy to win a few points by sounding "conservative" for his base?

Having worked with many politicians over the years, I believe this is why he Tweeted that. Always gotta be on brand. State government politicians especially love to tell city government what they should do.

Social media has changed the dynamic on how we voice our opinions. Should the governor, as an elected official, only tweet on things within his prevue? He is known as being anti tax, it could be argued he is just being consistent in that opinion. Although, in the article itself, he admitted it could have been handled a different way.

As for the restaurant tax, it seems the same as the one in Omaha. I suppose you could argue Omaha has more "destination" restaurants, places where people would come from other towns just to eat there, so you'd be bringing in extra money. Is there somewhere in La Vista people would go out of their way to go to?

The governor is potentially my least favorite politician in the country behind Trump. I can almost guarantee anything that comes out of his mouth will be non-factual, based in religion, right-wing belief, or any other non-reality and non-data backed info sources. He funds ballot initiatives and State Leg campaigns that fall in line with him, and it sends an even stronger message that Nebraska IS a pay-to-play state.
His opinion on any local matter is completely and totally irrelevant and it’s honestly an endorsement if he is against a policy you are fighting for.

Ps I’m not attacking religious beliefs, policy just should not be influenced by it. That was kind of one of the main (10) bases for creating this nation.

Restaurant owners as a group are weak and unorganized. How else would you explain that the greedy and manipulative politicians are now seeing the restaurant industry as easy prey to exploit and plunder.

That's a good friend of mine in the story (Jeff from PizzaWest). Honestly I just don't see this having a big impact. The one in Omaha did not change our habits at all. I'm not spending extra time and gas to save 30 cents on a $20 bill....

The problem is it never goes away. It will only go up and never go away. It is a foot in the door for the government. At the end of this dark alley who knows what might happen. Worse case scenario is someday down the road the Restaurant owners and their patrons are treated like sub standard humans much like we treat the cigarette smokers and cigarette companies. The fact that these restaurants are havens of bad and unhealthy foods and overweight people justifies that a really high tax be levied as a punishment for their sins.
