Jim Fowler dodged disaster plenty of times during his decades as a naturalist, including 25 years as the host of the pioneering nature show "Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom."

Once a 22-foot anaconda swallowed his arm up to the shoulder. Another time, 200 angry elephants charged him. Or still another time, when a chimpanzee named Mr. Moke punched him square between the eyes and knocked him out.

For years, Fowler fascinated audiences, on television and in person, with stories of his close encounters with wild animals in their natural habitat. He always told his stories with a laugh — even tales that probably didn't seem funny when they happened.

Fowler lived an adventure-filled life, much of it in the public eye. Fowler, who was 89, died Wednesday.

"When you look back at some of the dangerous situations he's been in, it's a miracle he's still alive to tell all these stories," Jennifer Whitney, Mutual of Omaha's corporate communications manager, told The World-Herald in 2013.

I usually don't follow celebrities much, but I had to post here that Rutger Hauer, 75, passed away. I love Blade Runner, and he gave an amazing performance as the 'woke' cyborg villain in that movie.

That's too bad, I saw him back at one of the Z92 Birthday Bash Concerts in Levi Carter Park. Great performer, great music. Everyone knows him for the 2 tickets but he had a lot of big hits.

Neil Peart, drummer and main lyricist for Rush, passed away this past week at age 67 after a 3 year battle of brain cancer. My favorite group, saw them 9 times. My 8th Rush concert was in 2010 at Qwest Center Omaha.

Here is a link to the drum solo he performed at Qwest Center Omaha in 2010 when Rush was in town for their Time Machine Tour:

A lot of NBA players come off as clowns. He always struck me as a solid guy. Tragic loss for his family and friends.
