I expect no less than a 42-6 beatdown. Any less of a beatdown and I'm going to raise an eyebrow. Keep this team out of the endzone at the very least.

It’s game week so I’ll make my prediction now.

I say Nebraska wins this one 45-14. I’m not sure how talented South Alabama is, but I think a 28-31 point opening game victory sounds about right...

Sigh... I wouldn't be surprised. This game will tell me a lot in how I expect the season will go. This is the type of game, that if the football team is in at least good standing, should be something of a large blowout of at least 35 points. If not, then I think we know they're not over the hill yet.

In recent years, the "cupcake" games have been anything but gimmes. (2018 against Bethune-Cookman, I personally don't count because it was late in the season) In recent years, the early season cupcakes have been coming in licking their chops, not with their tails between their legs. Hope they play like we're past the years of letting cupcakes feel like they have a chance. I never liked feeling like the game was not won at halftime with the cupcakes recently.

Yeah, I'm expecting it to be a blowout beat-down "Dammit, Osborne, quit running up the score!" type of thing. The bookies are saying that it will be a 5-score beat-down, but my hunch says it will be higher.

I made a small bet on the Nebraska game too just to keep a boring game interesting. I wanted to take Nebraska but I wanted to win more so I went with the prudent bet. This is a scab game so anything could happen. The points went up 1 so if Nebraska wins by exactly 36 we both win. Good luck.

South Alabama is supposed to be one of the top 5 worst teams in D1 this year. So on paper, 5 touchdowns makes sense.

Nebraska is one of the worst teams too. Both Nebraska and S Alabama only won 7 games last year between the two of them. This would, could and should be a very ugly game.

One thing I did not really think of, which a cow-orker pointed out to me as I was flashing my ticket around, was if they get comfortably ahead, they are gonna give the way-back back-benchers some playing time in the second half and particularly the last quarter, so it may not be the blow-out that's predicted.

On the other hand, it still could be.

I wouldn't think they'd pull starters unless theres a really solid lead. I think they will pull starters if they get a 28 point lead in the third quarter.

Funny thing this game of football is. Talk to most Husker fans right now, and they’re treating this game 1 win like it’s a loss.. And now give NU NO CHANCE against the “mighty” Colorado Buffalos next Saturday, lol..

Sure, the Huskers looked pretty crappy. Leading with their Heisman Trophy candidate QB Adrian Martinez. This outcome was not really that surprising. NU, I suspect, got full of themselves, read their press clippings and didn’t take South Alabama seriously. Plus, it was just game 1. A season outcome is usually never predicated on how your team looks game 1.. Especially in college..

In the end, I’m happy with the win. And this struggle may just be what the Doctor ordered. The coaches and players have a lot to unpack and carp about after this performance. It’ll probably get them even more ready for those “feared” Buffalos...

A few of the National headlines/articles out there after the game are about Maurice Washington playing in the game while still facing child porn charges. Not the type of PR Nebraska needed.

He has another court date on sept 3 - why not just keep him out until it is settled?

I mean the South Alabama quarterback threw South Alabama's chances of beating the Huskers right out the window. The same thing we saw Tommy Armstrong do to Nebraska many many times. Make no mistake about it, if the South Alabama QB had not been handing Nebraska points we very well could of lost this game. A team has no chance with those kind of quarterbacks.

Those are called Husker fans that have eyes. There is not much hope of the Huskers winning next week and that is OK. The Huskers goal this year has to be learning how to beat the really bad teams. After today's performance we can safely assume that goal will not be easy to accomplish this year.

Oh, well then, no. That's not what I meant at all. I meant the coach taking off his headset, throwing it on the ground, breaking it and yelling at officials and being called for unsportsmanlike conduct. It reminded me of Tommy Lasorda.

What a strange game, maybe this will be our only win all year. The way the offense looked today that thought crossed my mind. Martinez looked very average today nothing like the Hype that has surrounded him all spring and summer. The defense at times looked good but was soft up the middle stopping the run, Frost will earn his paycheck this week.

Disagree. Those are called short-sighted Husker fans whose “eyes” base their opinions after one outing. There are 11 more of these to go. We’ll see about next week..

But for the time being, I say- don’t overreact and blow one sub par game performance out of proportion. Now, stack 2-3 more of these performances together, and I might move to the Dark Side, lol...

I know it was a win, but it sure felt like a loss. This type of game shouldn't even be close. The Huskers seemed like they did everything they could to lose. The whole feel of the game was just flat and uninspired. Some out there are saying that is a result of the "vanilla" game plan, but I have my doubts about that theory.

I will say that Colorado also struggled in their opener, but they looked better than the Huskers did.

All in all, the performance today lessened my confidence that they'll be able to walk into Colorado and leave with a W. But, like you said, the first game doesn't mean much. It would just feel a whole lot better to finally not struggle against cupcake teams. This kind of performance kinda puts us on the hook for Northern Illinois too.

There's not a team in the country that doesn't believe they can't beat Nebraska. 'Tis not a good feel.

And I agree that there's probably no better time to have a game like that than now. It should help them improve.
