Nebraska was In the Tampa Bay Sports today By The Numbers —

2.2 Yards per carry for Nebraska’s run game in victory over South Alabama. The jaguars had the nation’s 101st-ranked rushing defense last season.

The odds makers have Nebraska as a 7 1/2 point favorite over Colorado. I think I will be betting on Colorado for sure if that is the case. Hate to bet against Nebraska 2 weeks in a row but those odds are ridiculous.

Yep, either Nebraska was just pulling it’s punches on USA, or Colorado has to suck so bad that with home field and atmosphere advantages, they will give up 8 points?

NU may win, but it will be by less than a TD. Or COwi run up the score and win by 3 TDs.

Again, bookies use the point spread to insulate them against an imbalanced betting pool. They live on the fees charged. A perfect Saturday is when all the money on one side slides across the desk to the other and no house reserves are involved.

Such a backwards situation, the child porn charge is ridiculous. He was 16 when he was sent a video of a 15 year old he dated when he was 14. This is not what child porn laws were meant to prevent. They were created to prevent adults from preying on children.

Now the revenge porn charge (misdemeanor) and his behavior there is unexcuseable. So I wouldn't mind him being kicked off the team for that, but prosecutor overreach with child porn laws diminishes the seriousness of real victimization of children by adults.

Like I said --- why not just keep him out until it is settled? The Huskers got some press yesterday and it had nothing to do with the score of the game or how they played.

One clarification on what you posted --- he actually allegedly sent it to her in March 2018 -- he was 18 at that time. as to the charge of having child pornography - he never should have had it on his phone - Also each state seems to approach punishment differently -- but Fed law is https://www.justice.gov/criminal-ceos/c ... ornography

Nebraska's running game got a whole lot better when Washington was on the field. The quarter back is not ready yet to carry this team and hes a disaster waiting to happen without a potent running game. Its as simple as that. We need Washington real bad and those are bogus charges so play ball!

When Nebraska lost to Purdue in 2015 (a game they should've won), I thought Nebraska had no chance of beating Michigan State whatsoever the next week. But they did. So maybe Nebraska has a chance against Colorado. There's no guarantee they'll lose.

Omaha Cowboy wrote: Sat Aug 31, 2019 5:28 pm Funny thing this game of football is. Talk to most Husker fans right now, and they’re treating this game 1 win like it’s a loss.. And now give NU NO CHANCE against the “mighty” Colorado Buffalos next Saturday, lol..

Sure, the Huskers looked pretty crappy. Leading with their Heisman Trophy candidate QB Adrian Martinez. This outcome was not really that surprising. NU, I suspect, got full of themselves, read their press clippings and didn’t take South Alabama seriously. Plus, it was just game 1. A season outcome is usually never predicated on how your team looks game 1.. Especially in college..

In the end, I’m happy with the win. And this struggle may just be what the Doctor ordered. The coaches and players have a lot to unpack and carp about after this performance. It’ll probably get them even more ready for those “feared” Buffalos...

Ciao..LiO...Peace
I know it was a win, but it sure felt like a loss. This type of game shouldn't even be close. The Huskers seemed like they did everything they could to lose. The whole feel of the game was just flat and uninspired. Some out there are saying that is a result of the "vanilla" game plan, but I have my doubts about that theory.

And I agree that there's probably no better time to have a game like that than now. It should help them improve.
It’ll be interesting to see how NU looks this Saturday..

Tom Osborne always said a team usually makes it’s most improvement from game 1 going into game #2...

Cowboy is right. What a bunch of negative nellies.

I haven’t really seen it talked about. The NU offense comes out of halftime but doesn’t get on the field until bout 6 minutes left in 3D quarter. That’s a lot of time to sit, and lose your edge. Especially in the first game. Yes, their 2nd Q play good have been better.

But really, when you get two Defense and a Special Team TD, your offense doesn’t touch the ball much. And, the D gets tired.
Quit moaning about offensive stats.

Just win Baby. That’s the only stat that counts. Losses don’t really build confidence.

South Alabama won the stat line. It wasn't fun to watch. Admittedly I'm more of an offensive kind of guy. Hate winning by turnovers. It's sloppy, frustrating to watch. That kind of performance won't get it done against even marginally less-bad teams.

Yes, a win is a win. But I can't wait for them to win, and finally look good doing it.

I hope they come out this weekend and show me something to be positive about.

There were a few upsets in week 1 and ultimately I'm really glad the Huskers weren't part of that group.

Nebraska currently favored by 5 at Colorado... ESPN gives Colorado a 51% chance of winning

Gonna be a hard game to make a prediction on. But I definitely wouldn't bet it.

I think it'll be close. A dog fight with a lot of emotion. I think it could come down to whether or not the Huskers can make field goals.

Have to worry about their QB, RB and WR. All very dangerous. Their defense blows, though.

The first power 5 game of the year has typically been enjoyable and memorable in recent years. I look forward to it.

The sportsbook at Ameristar currently has Nebraska favored by 4 1/2 points. There is not one good reason why Nebraska should be favored in this game. That is why once again I must bet against Nebraska. I think picking the right side of the Nebraska game to bet on this week is much easier then it was last week.

I don't blame ya one bit. Would be hilarious if you bet against the Huskers every game. Of course, odds have nothing to do with W/L. I hope the Huskers win every game, but I would lmao if you win money every week by betting against the spread. The oddsmakers are really pulling on the homers. Love it. Good bets. I dare you to add $20 every week.

The bookies always set unrealistic lines in Husker games. Too many Homers. The line is rarely crazy like last week, but it is usually high enough that they can’t cover.

Based on what we saw Saturday, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried about the Huskers going to Colorado on Saturday. But, I think it's important to remember -- "performances" vary in sports from week to week, game to game. What we saw out of the offense was at best a "D." For it being the first game of the year, that's pretty perplexing. With all the build-up since last November, you would think this offense would have come out fired-up and firing on all cylinders. But they didn't. Part of that was Cam Jurgens' high snaps (throwing off the whole team rhythm). Part of it was a strangely lackluster effort by Martinez (with some poor decision-making thrown in). And part of it was an intentionally vanilla playbook. There were no major injuries (like last year against Michigan). No weather factors (like last year against Michigan State). Add it all up, and it's the single worst performance by a Frost-coached offense at Nebraska.

But that's it. A bad performance.

I think the Huskers go to Boulder with a chip on their shoulders -- both from last year's controversial finish against the Buffs and because of the egg the offense laid against South Alabama. If Jurgens gets his high snaps under control, I think the offense rolls. If not, Nebraska could be in for a long afternoon.

Defensive performance against South Alabama -- B+. Loved the intensity. Loved the five turnovers. My only criticism, it would've been nice to see the Blackshirts stuff the Jaguars on those short-field possessions. The offense just wasn't doing the defense any favors with their stalled drives. Too much time on the field for the defense. Otherwise I doubt the Jags would've scored more than 14.

So, here's my qualified predictions for Saturday. If the same offensive struggles we saw in week one show up in Boulder, I like CU to win comfortably. Something like 35-24. If Nebraska mostly fixes its problems and only commits two or three mistakes, I like the Huskers in a 35-31 shoot-out. But, if it truly was just a strangely bad performance opening week and if the offense people have been hoping for all offseason (and somewhat expecting) shows up -- then Nebraska has a coming out party. 42-24 Nebraska.

Hoping the last scenario happens. But, my gut tells me it will more likely be the middle option with either Nebraska or Colorado pulling out a last-second victory.

Remember back in 2014 when Nebraska played McNeese State? Everybody thought that would be an easy win, but it wasn't. Those guys came ready to play. Nebraska took them too lightly and nearly got beat because of it. It took Ameer Abdullah to break 5 tackles and run for 58 yards for a touchdown to win it. So Nebraska survived an unexpected scare from McNeese State. Because of that, some people had doubts about the Fresno State game the next week. And boy did Nebraska drop the hammer on them. I'm not saying that's what will happen against Colorado on Saturday, but I'm just merely pointing out that you never know until Saturday.

There is little or no chance that Nebraska will put the hammer to Colorado on Saturday. There is a good chance Colorado may put the hammer on Nebraska. That is the reality of the Nebraska football team for 2019. The real fear is not what is going to happen against Colorado on Saturday but what is going to happen next Saturday against Northern Illinois. Is Nebraska still the same team they were last year that will struggle to win even against the bad teams? Yeah they are! Nebraska has been recruited into the dirt. Nebraska's talent level is so bad right now that when they play the bad teams like S Alabama they are in for the games of their lives. There is no talent drop off between Nebraska and the bad teams. The goal this year should be to stop losing to the bad teams and Colorado is not one of the bad teams. The real goal is to start the season 3-3 which does not look easy at all right now.

Oh brother  ..

After one game, no one can predict the reality of any college football team. One can have their “opinion” but the rest is “fake news” until we have at least a 4 or 5 game sample size..

In any case, I expect improvement offensively by NU this week along with continued improvement on defense and special teams. I like that the Husker defense forced 4 turnovers game 1..

I would not be surprised if Colorado wins this game, but I expect a tough, hard fought contest with the winner being a coin flip..

I pick Nebraska 34, Buffs 30...

Perfect execution

I too think it will be a dog fight. I will wait to see what the kicker situation will be before I make a solid prediction, but I do believe it will be in the upper 20's, mid 30's type of score for both teams.

The most obvious Fake News of the past few days is that the Nebraska defense looked good. Really? Since when is the defense considered to look good when a bad team is able to move the ball like S Alabama did a couple of series against Nebraska. Are memories so bad that they have forgotten that a scab team like S Alabama should not even be able to get a breath against a good Defense? A scab team should be lucky if they can even score a touchdown against a good teams defense. The worst ominous sign we saw in last weeks game is that scab teams are going to be able to move the ball against our defense. What is going to happen this Saturday to this defense that could not stop a scrub team last week when they play a team that scored over 50 points last week?

This post is a perfect example of why you NEVER make sweeping assumptions about a college football team after ONE game..

It’s absurd. Really. Of course you’re entitled to your opinion.. But as this season goes on, hopefully, if your not drowning fake assertions about the 2019 Huskers, you’ll see what I mean :)...

That’s my point. Over the course of a 12-13 game college football season, a team evolves. Injuries become part of the equation etc..Usually once you get to a game 6, you start to see, in reality, what kind of team you have.. As I’ve stated previously..You will not get to that point, until you have a 4-5 game sample size..

Hence, my statement that it’s absurd to broad brush what kind of Husker team we’ll have in 2019 and make assertions they’ll struggle offensively, defensively and on special teams- after ONE game..

If this Husker team turns out to be another 4 to 5 win team (as some here seem to think they’ll be for certain, again, after ONE game)- I won’t be ready to declare that until we get to game 6.. I predicted 8-4. I’ll stand by that..

But that’s me...

If this season starts looking like last season the negativity will boil over and they will be screaming for the head of an assistant coach. The Nebraska staff has the deer in the headlights look. Frost is safe but if this thing keeps going bad they will be calling for one or more coaches to get thrown off the island.

I might add, you also know ver6 little about the opponents you have beaten. In weeks 1 and 2 there have been “quality” wins over a big name team that ended the season with a losing record, and difficult victories over “bad” teams that finished 9-2 or 9-3.

Negativity with sports cracks me up. All the wanna be coaches and wanna be talent scouts. Eternal optimists are annoying, but they rarely claim to be xperts.

Last year, Colorado, going into their sixth game, were 5-0 and ranked 19. They then proceeded to lose every remaining game on their schedule to finish 5-7. That's a relevant example of how sloppy college sports can be.

The reason I'm concerned is because they are a power 5 team and Nebraska looked bad last week. Colorado looked like a good offensive team, as I expected. Nebraska reminded me of the team of the past two years. But, still, I know the actual game could go any way.

I'm hearing the weather could become a factor. I feel like that would bode well for our team.

I agree critic...

Haven't had a "quality" out of conference win against an eventual bowl team since Washington in 2010 and 2011.

Would be nice if the 'Skers can beat Colorado this year and hope they end up a good team.

Should have alot of Nebraska fans out in Boulder. As it’s closer than many Big 10 schools for us. I would like for NU to have a home and away series with the Buffs at least once every 10-15 years. That’s one of the things I don’t like about the Big10. Except for Iowa, Minn, Wisconsin and the two Illinois schools. Most of the Big10 schools are far away, which makes traveling to them sorta a pain and more expensive for the avg fan. It was nice having Ames, Lawrence and Manhattan so close. But in the end it was was all about money. So we left. Not that the Big10 is bad I like it. Just sometimes miss the simpler old days.

Prediction time.

Nebraska 35-31.

Huskers down 31-28 with 3 minutes left. Drive the ball 75 yards for a touchdown in 2 minutes. Defense holds on a waning seconds 4th and 20 pass to Shenault to seal the deal. In shotgun victory formation, ball on the 50, a wild snap scares the living daylights out of Nebraska fans, but the Huskers recover as time runs out.
