That's the pop-up garden/park, right? It seems like it's going to be pretty nice. Much bigger than I expected. I hope people don't get upset when they rip it all out in a few years.

I hate to say this and some of the businesses are impressive but here it goes...

Aksarben Village has all the personality of, well, a west Omaha development. And another thing as long as I'm cranky. I find no reason on the planet that the larger employers in Aksarben Village aren't downtown.

In fact its a shame they built that stupid Arena downtown instead of at Aksarben where it would of been centrally located.

A big article in the World-Herald this morning about the Inner Rail and other Village developments. Since the article is behind the W-Hs paywall posting a link won’t hel. If u can, reading the full article would be interesting. Since a lot of the Inner Rail info has been previously posted, here is the ‘new’ info:
“Just north of the Inner Rail, a new public park with fire pits, yard games, festival lighting and a 38-foot sculpture also is set to open this week. Stretching east from 67th Street, that’s the land envisioned for HDR’s future expansion.

On the ground level of the HDR building, in a corner bay that opens to the Inner Rail corridor, Noddle plans a “signature” sit-down restaurant run by A&M. It likely would open late next year; the type of food hasn’t been decided. For a neighboring bay, Noddle is seeking a live music venue.

Set to open in coming months in retail space of the HDR building that faces 67th Street are sandwich and salad shops, Zoup and Greenbelly. Lululemon, which sells athletic and leisure wear, will open as early as next weekend.

Later this fall, Torva Fit Club is opening in Aksarben Village. And H&H Automotive corporate offices are moving into about 20,000 square feet of the former Gordmans headquarters.

The first 80 of about 240 units at the new Broadmoor 63 complex south of Center near 63rd Street are to be ready for move-in yet this fall, said a Broadmoor spokeswoman.

Nearing completion west of HDR is the five-story building developed by McNeil Co. and Magnum Development. It will be anchored by Right at Home, a franchise network providing in-home health services.

Construction is expected to start mid-2020, according to Noddle’s latest timetable, on a five-story, 100,000-square-foot office building with street-level retail space along Frances Street, south of the parking garage that contains the Inner Rail food hall”

First of all it's "..would HAVE been...", but who's counting?

As for putting it at AkSarBen that's a valid point. Others wanted it west of 192nd and Dodge because there would have been plenty of room for parking but that could have been a group that owned land out there. I'm not saying that the employers are stupid. I'm sure it was cheaper to build at AkSarBen and parking is free.
However, unless and until Omaha gets a large corporation to buck the trend and move a huge amount of employees and jobs to town as opposed to leaving for Denver or Chicago or wherever the best chance for a large number of jobs moving downtown would be for a current one to relocate or in the case of PacLife, stay, i.e. Blue Cross, HDR, Ameritrade, etc. Want a highrise residential development? Have demand.
