2019 Omaha Area Fall Colors

2019 Omaha Area Fall Colors
USDA Forest Service wrote:A warm wet spring, favorable summer weather, and warm sunny fall days with cool nights should produce the most brilliant autumn colors. A late spring, or a severe summer drought, can delay the onset of fall color by a few weeks. A warm period during fall will also lower the intensity of autumn colors.
2019 has been stage overall. Spring floods, not very hot in general and periods of dry followed by a wet fall. It will be interesting to see what we end up with. I have been all over the metro this week and just starting to see the faint yellow hue in some of the trees. On average over the past 12 years we have started seeing fall colors in Omaha on September 26th, so we are "late". Hopefully with the cooler weather moving in this past week and plenty of moisture we have a good fall ahead of us.

I have started to see a few locust trees in Omaha turning a little bit yellow. Not anywhere near full yellow, but more than last week.

Its like someone flipped the fall colors switch last night. There was noticeably more fall color on my way to work today.

Yep, those are all Ash Trees. Today I saw a lot of Locust Trees, a decent amount of Ash Trees (yellow), A couple AP Ash trees (purple), and red maples.

Great picture Brad! The trees along the creek in Aksarben Village really changed a lot to yellow in the past 2-3 days.

I sure hope we still get good color this year. Friday night/Saturday morning the temperature at my house hit a low of 27 and was below freezing for over 12 hours which probably did a good number. I was all over town yesterday and I noticed a lot of trees that looked wilted which was caused by the really low temperatures over the weekend. However most of the wilting appears to be on the outer branches and tops of the trees. Hopefully the inner leaves were more protected and will still change colors after the outer leaves fall off.

I noticed quite a bit of color change in the maple trees near our neighborhood in Bellevue. We just bought a maple tree for our front yard and I can't wait to see the color in the coming years.

Didn't take a single photo this weekend, but I really got around the area and colors are looking great! Saturday afternoon I went down to Plattsmouth and all the cottonwood trees from Offutt south to around the platte river were just glowing. Sunday I was over in Council Bluffs and the trees along the river south of I80 were really looking good. Even some of the neighborhoods in Omaha are really full of color.

Quite a few really brilliant trees along south 168th the last few days. I take that way home occasionally.
