Oh, boy. Illinois just pulled off a huge upset over Wisconsin today on a last second field goal. So Wisconsin is no longer undefeated. I guess maybe there's a glimmer of hope for Nebraska.

The Wisconsin loss today overall is bad for the conference. It shows some weakness in Wisconsin, and gives them a division loss just like the Huskers, which is the good part.

Here's how I see it playing out if Nebraska will win:

I see Wisconsin and Nebraska meeting both with two conference losses with the outcome of that game being a huge tie breaker. If the Huskers win the next two weeks, but lose to Wisconsin, they're out. So lets say Nebraska miraculously beats Wisconsin. They still have to beat Iowa in a game that could also end up being a huge tie breaker. This is assuming the Huskers win the other "should win" games.

Then I see Minnesota dropping their game against Penn State. We have to then hope Minnesota loses to Wisconsin AND loses another game (most likely against Iowa).

If everything goes as it "should", we will be rooting for Iowa and Wisconsin in the next couple weeks. We should be watching all the Husker games and all the Gopher games. As of today, the Huskers can't afford to lose any more games this year.

The prettiest way the Huskers can still win the division is:

Nebraska 9-3 (7-2)
Wisconsin 9-3 (6-3)
Minnesota 9-3 (6-3)
Iowa 8-4 (5-4)

Unfortunately, the last thing I can see happening is the Huskers finishing the season 5-0

How I actually see it going down:

Wisconsin 10-2 (7-2) tie breaker
Minnesota 10-2 (7-2)
Iowa 8-4 (5-4) tie breaker
Nebraska 7-5 (5-4)

That is, if the Huskers do that well.

Indiana won today at Maryland and I don't see too many reasons why they will not win at Nebraska next Saturday. I think Indiana should be favored by 3 next week against Nebraska in Lincoln. I predict that the professional odds makers will no doubt favor Nebraska by 3 1/2. I think Nebraska imploded the last 3 weeks and I just don't know if they got enough stones left to win this week against Indiana.

The opening line just came out on the game this Saturday. Indiana is favored by 2 points over Nebraska. I think Indiana is a pretty good bet at those odds.

Nebraska I-Back Maurice Washington will not play this week vs. Indiana. His status with the program is unclear.

Coach Scott Frost said Washington did not practice last week or on Monday. Frost said, "He's not part of the team right now."

Another article said he was removed from the depth chart

Washington was removed from the team's depth chart, which was released Monday in advance of Frost's weekly press conference. Frost did not call it a suspension but said Washington's status for the future will be determined "based on some circumstances."

"There are certain standards we ask our players to uphold," Frost said. "When those aren't upheld, doesn't matter who it is, they won't be in our plans for that week or longer."

Nebraska has cut Washington loose for good. He won't be coming back. Is what Frost seemed to be implying.

Frost continues to repeat over and over that "This is a mans league." It is becoming clear that this is Frost's way of admitting that our players are not physically strong enough to compete with most of the teams not only in the Big 10 but all of College Football. Frost is suddenly being a lot more honest about how dire our situation is and that is start as far as I am concerned. You can not fix the problems if you are not even honest enough to admit they exist.

NU vs Indiana in Lincoln with the Huskers coming off a bye..

I’m going to give NU a slight edge in this one. It’s a must win if the Huskers have any hopes of gaining the 6 win, bowl eligibility level...

I could be wrong, but my gut tells me the bye is ill-timed. It has to be discouraging to lose like that and have to sit on it for so long. Good for recovery, but bad for the psyche. We'll see though.

It is not impossible but.......Nebraska has about as much chance of winning against Indiana this week as this forum does of working right anytime soon. Indiana only has to win by 1 point and I think they will win by more then 10 points. I'm betting on Indiana.

I've looked at everything I could to convince myself the Huskers will win this weekend, but there's just nothing there. Indiana is better in every statistical category and it isn't even very close. That will lead me to make the unfortunate prediction of a 30-20 Indiana win.

Nebraska is now a 2 1/2 point favorite. That is a quick 3 point shift. That surely means that it looks like Martinez is going to play this week and the bookies think it will improve Nebraska's chances. I think the bookies don't know Martinez as well as I do. I think Martinez might not be that much of an upgrade over Vedral. I wish I had made my bet now instead of when Indiana was favored by 1 point. It will be funny if I end up loosing because I did not wait a couple more days to place my bet.

The game of football has a funny way of turning statistics upside down. I like the Huskers’ chances Saturday...

Well, yes. The only reason I have hope is because Indiana is a historically bad team. As bad as both these teams are right now, Indiana has the edge right now.

I think the Huskers have a shot at 6-6 because they play 3 historically bad teams left to play. Problem is the Huskers are currently also historically bad. I'm thinking it will be a lot tougher than it should be to go 2-1 against those teams.

Hope we'll see something on Saturday to change the feel of the program right now.

I don't allow so-called "statistics" to dictate my way of thinking. If I allowed statistics or numbers to dictate my thoughts and decisions, I would not be a very happy person. I'd be pretty miserable.

Last week, Wisconsin was statistically favored against Illinois yet Illinois pulled off a huge upset over them.

I believe Nebraska has a chance against Indiana. Indiana is not a powerhouse nor are they on the verge of becoming one. They haven't won a conference championship since 1967. Their title drought is longer than Nebraska's.

It's a way of making and backing up a prediction. Yes Wisconsin was statistically better than Illinois and look what happened. We all know these things happen, but I dont think anyone would have predicted it. Just because Illinois beat Wisconsin doesnt mean I should get my hopes up for Nebraska, because at the end of the day, that game was an anomaly. Just like when the Huskers beat Michigan State that one time. It was one of the most exciting games I've ever seen as a Husker fan, but still also an anomaly. I wouldn't have legitimately thought the Huskers stood a chance in that game.

I've already said it anyway, the Huskers have a good enough chance to go 2-1 against these bad teams. Of the bad teams, I think Indiana is the strongest and most likely to knock the Huskers off.

I'll wait til after the Purdue game to see where my Hope's will be for the Wisconsin game.

Yes, that is true. But there are some people out there who make up fake statistics and/or manipulate data and try to pass them off as irrefutable facts for their own personal agenda. Not that you're doing that, but there are folks who do.

So far our Defense has only been able to slow down N Illinois and a Northwestern team playing with a back up quarterback. Indiana is going to take the ball up and down the field and there is not going to be anything our Defense can do to stop it. It is almost a given that Indiana will score 30 or 40 points. The real question is will the Nebraska Offense be productive enough to put the 35 to 45 points on the board that it is going to take to win this game. That is the problem. Can this Offense for once this season go out on the field and look like they know what they are doing instead of a bunch of boobs?

When I looked at their offensive statistics, I was pretty concerned, but I heard Indiana's starting quarterback is out, so if that's true, that would probably be a benefit to the Huskers. I too thought it was pretty much a given that Indiana would score 30, and that the Huskers would have trouble keeping up offensively- with Martinez, Robinson and Washington, let alone without.

I really don't feel good about the offense... Or the defense... Or the special teams. Thus the reason why I can only blindly hope they can show me something - anything - to feel good about. Hope I'll be singing a different tune after tomorrow.

Geez, even Wisconsin's no match for Ohio State. They got whumped 38-7. Ohio State seems unstoppable. The Badgers' season seems to be going downhill.

The offense put up 31 points using back up quarterbacks so we will give them a grade B. The defense gets a FAIL. Were in trouble with that Defense. There will be no Nebraska Bowl game. Be lucky if we win again this year. Maryland is our best shot at getting another win.

Michigan State's not having such a good season either. They're in the same boat Nebraska is. They're also 4-4 now after losing to Penn State today. They're probably not going to make a bowl game this year either.

That's not entirely true. The Huskers have a shot of beating Purdue next week. They're having a worse season than us. They're only 2-6, no chance of going to a bowl game.

Maryland and Purdue are both winnable. Our defense couldn’t get a stop today when we really needed it. The offense played relatively well.

After listening to Scott Frost’s post game presser, there was some real revealing commentary..

I’d say at this point, the Huskers are far more likely to lose the rest of their games than winning one of them.. The absolute best shot is Maryland, but that game is on the road so that adds to the odds against a win there..

Looks like another 4-8 season on the horizon...

Here's a look at the conference title droughts longer than Nebraska's:

UCLA 1998
Tennessee 1998
Texas A&M 1998
Virginia 1995
Texas Tech 1994
Arizona 1993
Arkansas 1989
Duke 1989
UNC 1980
NC State 1979
Kentucky 1976 (claimed in '78)
Missouri 1969
South Carolina 1969
Kansas 1968
Minnesota 1967
Indiana 1967
Ole Miss 1963
Mississippi State 1941
Vanderbilt 1923
Iowa State 1912

I'm willing to bet you the fans of these teams are edgy and are dying to see their team win another conference championship. Although, there are probably some who have given up all hope of seeing their team ever winning another title. Particularly Iowa State, Vanderbilt, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, etc.

I wasn't able to watch today (outside of Indiana kneeling). From what I was able to see on the gamecast was that the Husker offense moved the ball really well, but the Hoosier offense moved it even better.

The most disappointing part of it is the Huskers had a commanding lead at one point, giving me hope and making me question my narrative (to my excitement) only to pee down their leg. At least they had a chance at the very end to tie it up. I'm still not aware of how they blew that opportunity.

I said earlier that Indiana had the best chance to beat Nebraska during the stretch of 3 "winnable" games. I still think they have a chance to beat Purdue and Maryland to get bowl eligible, but I'm not too confident about that.

They really need to win next week or I feel like they will finish 4-8, as losing 3 straight would be a huge confidence blow.

It is looking bad for Martinez. We are not seeing a significant drop off from Martinez to Vedral or even Luke. Both Luke and Vedral are passing and running as well as we have seen Martinez.

All this aside I was glad to not see Martinez playing yesterday with a brace on. There is just something wrong about sending a wounded guy out with a brace to fight for this loosing effort. They need to let Martinez fully heal before he plays this year. Playing with a bum leg is a fast way to end Martinez's career. I think the only way Martinez gets to the NFL is if he moves to Tight End or Running back.

How about Luke. He looked good for a guy fresh out of High School. Son of a famous Denver Bronco player! Comes out and plays like that on day 1. Let Martinez have another chance next year but if it starts going south you get Luke in there fast. Luke has the look of being the real deal.

He would have to crush teams in the Big Ten the next two years to get the stink of the past two seasons off his image. Especially when 2 and 3 are nearly as good. The NFL doesn’t need many QBs and he is going to have a lot of competition.
