Crazier still was yesterday when the odds makers had Purdue at home as a 10 1/2 point favorite over Illinois. Illinois spanked Purdue 24 to 6. I guess they figure Nebraska is as good as Illinois so Nebraska will just be too much for Purdue. I think Illinois has improved since we played them and Nebraska has imploded. My first impression is come 11AM Saturday I will be betting on Purdue. Hard to believe Nebraska made it back on National TV again this week on Fox and it sure would be nice not to get beat by Purdue in front of the whole country.

The odds have just came out and Nebraska is a 3 1/2 point favorite at Purdue Saturday. There is no way Nebraska should be a favorite.

Purdue isn't having a good season. They're only 2-6 with no chance of making a bowl game.

Re: Nebraska Football 2019
If NU is going to get to the 6 win level Bill Moos has been clamoring for- They’ll have to do it on the road at Purdue and at Maryland. Neither of these teams are very good, but neither is Nebraska right now.. And I don’t see the Huskers beating Wisconsin or Iowa in Lincoln..
4-8 or 5-7 looks like the final season record. This team has deeply imbedded culture and lack of talent issues that I think even Scott Frost thought weren’t as bad when he accepted the job. He’ll need ALL of those 7 contract years to turn this mess around...

Agree Frost will need more than a few years to fix this. I’m just disappointed that the hype machine was running so strongly early in the year. And the product was nothing like the hype we heard all spring and summer. I don’t recall Minnesota getting much hype, they should of been hyped not Nebraska. This team is obliviously not ready for any championships. A 500 season would be a huge accomplishment for them. And I would gladly take that at this point.

I happened upon a Utube of the post game press conference Saturday given by the head coach of Indiana. If you got 12 minutes to watch it go for it as it really brings things into perspective. This was a huge win for Indiana. They were thrilled beyond belief to come in here and get a win. I get the same feeling about Indiana that I do Illinois. Both these teams are not the doormats they once were and are going to be tough games to win for Nebraska from here on out.

Re: Nebraska Football 2019
The talent level Nebraska has after multiple top 25 recruiting classes isn't 4 and 8 bad, yet they're going to have three of these seasons in a row. Something is definitely rotten, and it looks like a mix of attitude, which the coaches can have a large impact, and scheme which the coaches solely control.
That defense is wayyy worse than what I could have imagined from early in the season, and the fact that Frost thinks Chinander can turn it around is something that Husker fans should worry about. Yikes. Cosgrove Callahan part 2.

Purdue has only won 2 games. They got a dinged up quarterback or they might even have to use the back up quarterback. Illinois went to Purdue last week and beat them soundly. Martinez will be the starting QB for the Huskers this week. No way am I betting on Purdue. I'll take my chances and bet on the Huskers this week.
Huskers win it this week and get some of the stink off before Wisconsin comes to town and manhandles them.
Nebraska 37 Purdue 24

Re: Nebraska Football 2019
I remember back in 2016 when Colorado had won the Pac-12 South and went to the Pac-12 Championship Game and faced Washington and lost, the commentators were saying that Colorado was back, they were no longer a bottom-feeder, on their way back to national prominence, etc. But since then, Colorado's had some pretty lousy seasons. So no, they're not back to national prominence. Not even close. They're no closer to regaining their former glory than Nebraska is to theirs. Colorado's 2016 season was just a Cinderella run, nothing more, nothing less.
Colorado is in the same boat Nebraska is–A former powerhouse that's now a nobody.

Nebraska has the slight advantage overall statistically, with teams the teams being about 50-50 in owning individual statistics.
I like Nebraska 27-24 in this one. If Nebraska can pull this out, I like their chances of finishing 6-6 a lot better.

Purdue also played Iowa pretty close and they had some other close losses. They’ve had lots of injuries. I’m wondering what it will feel like around here if Nebraska loses today. The pressure only builds on frost with each mounting loss. Although he will be given 4-6 years to fix this. But you wonder how much he can take of losing, he’s never lost like this before in his coaching or playing career. A win today helps stop the bleeding if even just temporarily. This game today is winnable.

Frost and Moos will easily sell their spin story that this nightmare of a 2nd season is not their fault. By this time next year the public will be starting to grasp the idea that Frost is not making Nebraska great again. Unless something drastic happens Frost is riding the Hot Seat by year 4 and 5. I can almost guarantee that Moos will milk Nebraska for everything he can and then cut out of here claiming he is retiring before he gets fired. Frost needs to find his Tommie Frazier fast or its going to get ugly.Cermak wrote: Sat Nov 02, 2019 9:25 am Purdue also played Iowa pretty close and they had some other close losses. As soon as the Huskers went up 10-0, I knew this game was over. Unbelievable how they've been up by two or three scores in 3 or 4 games this year only to pee those leads away.

If you believe that then Frost's and Moo's sales job has you sold. They would have us believe that this is not their fault and it is the players fault. They are conning us. Those good days they are promising us never come. The only ones that ever get the good days in this deal are Frost and Moos when they go to the bank. The players and the fans get nothing but embarrassment and humiliation.

You don’t go to division champs over night. This is year two. Frost has his staff and has flushed a lot of the old players. They should be making steady incremental improvements if they were rebuilding. I don’t think there is a path forward for this. Get used to a number of years of crappy teams.

Frost's version of Nebraska football means you can not win away games even against teams that are terrible. Frost's version of Nebraska means you only win 4 games a year. Frankly speaking if Frost "Rebuilds" this team anymore we will not win many games even at home against bad teams. When has Nebraska ever been worse then they are right now at this minute? Frost's version of rebuilding and getting back in shape means your Defense is so out of shape that any team on the planet using their 3rd string qb can run up and down the field any time they have to. We are not rebuilding right now at Nebraska we are degenerating into the dirt.mrsticka wrote: Sat Nov 02, 2019 4:17 pmOh, I don't know about that. Rebuilding a program takes time. P.S- How is Frost supposed to get players to come to Nebraska when they go on national TV and get whipped by teams like Purdue? Easy answer is he is not. Frost is digging himself a grave.

Well, if you think firing Frost is going to solve anything, you're not just wrong, you're DEAD wrong. We've been firing coaches for their less-than-stellar results for some time now and what has that gotten us? Their replacement ends up worse than them. So what makes you think this time will be any different? Don't kid yourself. Firing Frost will accomplish absolutely NOTHING!

We are stuck with frost for at least a few more years. It would be to expensive to get rid of him now or even next year. Maybe 2022 we could get rid of him if they are just showing no progress at all. But that would be the earliest. I’d say give him more time. He is definitely struggling and appears to have been overrated.

Defense played poorly at times ---- Frost should have swapped out martinez for one of the other QBs -- Martinez is just not playing like he did last year --over thinking - hesitant.
Huskers were out coached. I went to a Husker gather in a local bar here in Tampa. At one of the first games of the season and there were over 100 Husker fans... today maybe 20 and most of them left before the game was over.
Side Note - A few weeks ago, there was an Air Force pilot from a small town in SW Nebraska - watching the game there as he was in town doing training out of MacDill. He told me he will be part of the flyover at the NE/Iowa game. Then in a few months, he will be leaving the service and returning to his hometown to run the family agriculture business.

Frost isn’t the problem. The changes around him are. We had a walk-on program that filled the journeyman roles. Now we have other teams that are attractive for these players and an equal or better education opportunity. We had a state of the art conditioning program, but now everyone has something. You also have fewer kids playing the sport and the same number of teams.
He can do a much better job in play calling and could do a vastly better job with defense. Time will tell about the Huskers. Right now I don’t see a path out of this. I certainly wouldn’t do a termination. We are paying too many coaches to not coach right now. No sense in adding to this.

Many of us, including yours truly, were seduced into thinking this was a “culture only” problem and thus, Frost would have the program moving towards 8-9 wins in year 2..
We know this is not the case. Non Husker fans can bloviate all they want that Frost isn’t the answer and they’ll never find some sort of the next Osborne blah blah blah..
Frost needs to focus on recruiting players on both sides of the ball that play complimentary football. I’ve re watched much of this game today and there are plenty of players who “want to” and others who “give up”..
I said it in a post last week- Frost will need ALL of his 7 year contract to recruit the type of players who will turn the current culture upside down and OUT of the locker room.. -More speed, size, talent and a WANT to play clean, intelligent complimentary football.. That’s easily what’s needed. I’m not sure we’ll see it after next year- but by Frost’s 4th year, I’ll completely expect it. If not, then I’ll start calling him “Scott Blake”...

Fans might still be blind & gullible enough to believe Frost's lies and excuses but the players don't. Frost has lost this team and its as clear as day. Frost lost this team and he knows it. The Defense is by far the worst Defense that Nebraska ever has had. I know a salesman when I see one and Frost is more salesman then coach.

Frost needs to 1. Realize he needs a defense since he no longer has Mackenzie Milton (although that McCaffrey kid could be interesting in the future) and he plays in a power 5 conference full of decent to excellent teams. and 2. Needs to remember what made Nebraska so powerful was the fact they beat their opponents up...they played strong, rather than this PAC 10/12/14 "gotta go fast" offense that doesn't quite work in the Big 10. The talk of parity in strength and conditioning and geographic issues are just a crutch being used...look at Wisconsin, they were built off the Nebraska model and are still relevant. That should give Nebraska fans a glimmer of hope. Who knows if Frost will mature enough to realize this though, I would have thought Osborne might help in that regard?

For Petes Sakes! If we go by you and Frost's B.S timetable older guys like me might be watching games from our graves before Scott Frost makes Nebraska great again. You can not be serious. Of course long before we get to that mythical 7th year Frost and his homer fans will be insisting he needs a 3 year contract extension. Now that is one heck of a salesman folks that can sell the sheeple a line of B.S like that. The guy can't coach but he sure can sell.Omaha Cowboy wrote: Sat Nov 02, 2019 10:38 pm I said it in a post last week- Frost will need ALL of his 7 year contract to recruit the type of players who will turn the current culture upside down and OUT of the locker room.. -More speed, size, talent and a WANT to play clean, intelligent complimentary football.. P.S- About that famous Nebraska "conditioning program" they are promising to get the team back to. I won't pull out the "S" word but lets just say I think its pretty safe to say there were a whole lot of magic dusts and danders being ingested by Nebraska players in the 70's, 80's and even 90's.

Re: Nebraska Football 2019
This commentary was mentioned in a comment online
Memo to Scott Frost: Unlike your Cornhuskers, UCF players are cold-blooded | Commentary
Let us send a brief memo today from sun-filled, fun-filled Orlando to Nebraska coach Scott Frost, whose frail, soft, shivering, cold-intolerant Cornhuskers apparently have this annoying habit of bundling up in their warm, snuggly fleece jammies before they go out onto the field for pregame warm-ups:
“Dear Frosty, just thought you should know that many members of your old team — the UCF Knights — took the field shirtless for pregame warm-ups on a nippy night in Philly Saturday.” ...
The problem is Frost, like FSU’s Willie Taggart, is coaching at a program where many fans still are living in the past. These are not Bobby Bowden’s swashbuckling Seminoles anymore or Tom Osborne’s dominant, dynastic Cornhuskers. The reality is that Frost and Taggart, both of whom have been on the job for just 1½ seasons, inherited programs in varying states of disrepair.
