You're absolutely right, I just looked at the schedule. As an outsider, I don't really care. 2-4 is better than 0-4, and somewhat lessens my point, but still, this could be a 9-3 team with 4 different plays.

Re: Nebraska Football 2019
They had 3 key losses (Colorado, Indiana, Purdue) where they had 2 or 3 score leads. Those are the ones that really hurt. So to your point, if any one set of occurrences wasn't executed by the opposition in those games, then the Huskers would have been 8-4, which is what I expected. So the fact they lost all 3 of those games is what makes this season so disappointing. Had the management of those 3 games been just a little better, there would be a totally different feel about Husker football right now.

Well, I agree. And also agree and have been saying as this season progressed, the Huskers are moving in the right direction..Original wrote: Tue Dec 03, 2019 4:43 pm You're absolutely right, I just looked at the schedule. It’s amazing and not surprising at the same time, how many NU fans were “on board” with the Scott Frost hiring, and now- have completely cooled to his hiring..to the point that the lunatic fringe of the Husker fan base are calling for his head.. And after only 2 seasons. It’s comical, simp minded and short sighted. It really is
Anywho, I appreciate your “outside of the forest” viewpoint and hope you continue to contribute here and to the forum...

And I still say 5-7 is better than 4-8.

Luke McCaffrey's Dad just took the head coaching job for Northern Colorado. Things get too ugly looking at Nebraska and he can bolt for Dads team like McDermott did to Creighton?

Re: Nebraska Football 2019
Looks like a really good recruiting class for Nebraska. So far this has been the most impressive thing Frost has done since his arrival. The amount of kids they pulled out of Florida is nothing short of stunning. I’m guessing some of them hope to play this fall and Husker coaches stressed this to them instead of sitting on the bench at other schools. The 2020 class is ranked #4 in the Big10. To me Nebraska’s schedule looks harder next year, the last 5 games look especially tough.

Next year will end ugly. We could easily loose the last 5 games. 10 year contract or not Frost will end the year on the hot seat. Husker nation will be divided with most calling for Frost's head while a fair amount of the loons are still fully prepared to ride the Frost train into the abyss.Cermak wrote: Thu Dec 19, 2019 8:44 am To me Nebraska’s schedule looks harder next year, the last 5 games look especially tough.

So if that scenario is correct who do you want as a replacement?GrandpaaSmucker wrote: Thu Dec 19, 2019 9:24 amNext year will end ugly. Re: Nebraska Football 2019
I’m sure Frost is aware of this, as Luke is probably the best dual threat QB in college football who isn’t currently a starter, in my opinion. The kid wants to play so badly it’s almost painful to watch him on the sidelines. He should be given every opportunity to win the starting job this spring. And if he’s not the starter you can’t blame him for leaving to play for his dads team.GrandpaaSmucker wrote: Thu Dec 12, 2019 8:23 pm Luke McCaffrey's Dad just took the head coaching job for Northern Colorado. The “lunatic fringe” of the Husker fan base doesn’t think that far ahead. They want results “now” and lack vision..nebugeater wrote: Thu Dec 19, 2019 9:30 amSo if that scenario is correct who do you want as a replacement?GrandpaaSmucker wrote: Thu Dec 19, 2019 9:24 amNext year will end ugly. The safe bet is Frost will see the end of his 10 year contract and possibly beyond...

Re: Nebraska Football 2019
The media was starting to realize by the end of this last season that Frost and Moos had sold them a line of nonsense and bull. Even homer Omaha World Herald reporter Tom Shatel by the end of the season had come to his senses and had stopped toting the Frost/Moos line and had began reporting the truth. The media will have Frost on a short leash and if he starts crapping out in year 3 like he did the last 2 years. They will be go after him. If Frost comes out and bombs in year 4 we could see Moos and Frost getting the ax. I would not want to bet on the Husker fans being gullible and foolish enough to believe that year 5 or 6 is magically going to be alright after 4 of the worst seasons Nebraska has ever had.nebugeater wrote: Thu Dec 19, 2019 9:30 amSo if that scenario is correct who do you want as a replacement?GrandpaaSmucker wrote: Thu Dec 19, 2019 9:24 amNext year will end ugly. I don't know who they should get. This much I do know. Hiring an inexperienced coach like Frost was a stupid mistake. I wanted Frost as much or more as everyone else did. I think its becoming obvious I was wrong big time. Next time around we need to play it safe and get someone with a winning record and lots of experience.
Of course this discussion will be mute if Frost comes out this year and starts winning. Its going to take a miracle for him to do that and it just ain't happening. We can hope though. If Frost thinks he can start Martinez next year and win he is doomed.

Re: Nebraska Football 2019
After today's discussion I decided to go take a look at the Coach's Hot Seat. http://coacheshotseat.com/
I wondered if the site had some end of the season thoughts on the Nebraska Cornhusker's head coach. The good news was they did. The bad news was the news was not good news at all. It turns out they thought the same thing I thought about Frost. They have Frost going into next year right now as the 6th most likely coach to get fired at the end of next year. This is what they had to say:
6. Scott Frost, Nebraska – To really put into perspective what a Total Damn Disaster Scott Frost’s first two seasons at Nebraska have been just look at the records of past Nebraska Head Football Coaches after two seasons going back to Tom Osborne >
Tom Osborne = 18 – 5 – 1
Frank Solich = 21 – 5
Bill Callahan = 13 – 10
Bo Pelini = 19 – 8
Mike Riley = 15 – 11
Scott Frost = 9 – 15
Really now….does anyone doubt that if Scott Frost’s name was Willie Taggart he would have already had his |expletive| run out of Lincoln?
Didn’t think so and Nebraska AD Bill Moos can say all he wants about “staying the course” with Scott Frost but reality is Frost will coaching for his job in 2020 because if he cannot get it done in 3 full seasons then there’s no point to any of this and with that in mind let’s look at the Huskers 2020 schedule >
Purdue
Central Michigan
South Dakota State
Cincinnati
At Northwestern
Illinois
At Rutgers
At Ohio State
Penn State
At Iowa
At Wisconsin
Minnesota
Barring a Massive Improvement by Nebraska between now and the 2020 season we see…
No Damn Way the Huskers get to 6 wins in 2020 and if they don’t the Scott Frost era will be OVER in Lincoln…and more than likely the Bill Moos era as well!

With that schedule, the first 7 games are winnable. The remaining 5 would be really rather tough. That's a heck of a way to end the season.

Re: Nebraska Football 2019
Nebraska should be able to win the first 4 games after that it gets sketchy. Nebraska's odds of going up to Chicago and beating Northwestern are low. Nebraska barely beat Northwestern in Lincoln this year and Northwestern was playing with a back up quarterback. Even though Nebraska will win the first 4 games it will have become obvious that things are not right. Then after losing to Northwestern the Huskers will have to turn around and play Illinois in Lincoln the next week. We will be lucky to win that game. Illinois is not the slouch they once was. So now maybe you got a Husker team with 4 wins and 2 losses. They then go beat Rutgers to get win number 5. And then the chase begins to see where in those last tough 5 games they can possibly win game 6 to get to a bowl game. You can almost see it already........its the day after Thanksgiving and Nebraska has 5 wins and they have to beat Minnesota to get that 6th game to go to a bowl for the first time in years.MadMartin8 wrote: Fri Dec 20, 2019 5:07 am With that schedule, the first 7 games are winnable. The thing you are missing is the college landscape is very different now than it used to be. Frost has a proven track record of doing things with good recruits. All of the other coaches you listed had better talent to start with. Mike Reilly didn't recruit for |expletive|. Frost will show improvement and take us to a bowl next year.

So how long do you have to wait for the goose to lay golden eggs before you realize the goose is never going to lay golden eggs? To be fair, Riley took the biggest swing (pass) and missed. Frost was the clean up guy if you will..Uffda wrote: Tue Jan 14, 2020 6:33 am Wasn’t sure which Husker thread to put this in. Riley and Frost missed.

No reason to fret, freak out or bash Frost (or Mike Reilly) over this. Coaches “miss” on players all the time. In the end, Burrow landing in LSU was the perfect spot to showcase his talent- the Tigers are rich with NFL prospects on both offense and defense. Had Burrow been given a shot at NU with the current level of talent, I’m sure he would not have had anywhere near his current success..
In the end, good for Joe. He’ll likely be the overwhelming 1st pick in the NFL draft. I hope the kid will like Cincinnati

Urban Meyer going to be Head coach of Jacksonville Jaguars. Also has the #1 pick which supposedly is going to be QB Trevor Lawrence.MadMartin8 wrote: Sun Nov 03, 2019 3:48 pm Wow, Taggart's buyout is something along the lines of 18 Mil, and they raised enough from boosters to buy it out. Looks like Free Shoes U and USC are heading to a bidding war for Urban Meyer. This is going to be exciting.
