They should include an exorcist in the remodeling team.
That site has been too many things to not have bad Karma and need some holy water.
Having previously worked out at VP for many yrs, I felt the biggest problem was this building was hidden from view by Firebirds. They need to put a sign in their south parking lot so people in the mall can see it and think of this place as an option to eat.
I was at Stroud's 3 times. Each time the chicken was great. Sides.. especially green beans, looked like they had been in the pan all day. Mimis was a one and done experience. I agree that visibility is iffy.
My guess is that this one has a better chance than Mimi's (which I was not impressed with) or Strouds (which I never made it to before it imploded) did.

Anyone interested in taking bets on how long saltgrass will last..
Given the location, I would set the over under for 3 years.
Maybe it’s partly wishful thinking, but I’ll take the over.
It’s a chain, they will likely be overpriced and thus lose out to Mahogany for the over priced steakhouse crowd. For the people out west who want good food, they will go to Farmer Browns at about the same distance.

You must disclose if you have any insider info. Is it a 3 year lease? Corporate office has some 3 year trial policy?
I'm curious what you think is going to happen in that third year that will cause them to close.
Not insider info, but they’re owned by the richest individual restaurant owner in the country. If we wants to keep it open for 30 years, he will.
Unlike Mimi’s, Harrington’s (that was the worst idea I’ve ever seen and I’ve seen a lot), or even Stroud’s, they can afford to lose money on it if they so choose. Given that they’re new (again) to this market, I expect a long leash.

Exactly the kind of info I was looking for. Thanks
Having spent a prodigious portion of my life in Texas- I have a significant amount of family members who mainly live in Dallas-Fort Worth.. but as far west in Texas as Lubbock- I can say I’ve experienced dining at Saltgrass more than a few times..
I’ve found the restaurants to be consistently good location to location and their prices are definitely within the high side of moderate..
I know this location has seen several fails over the past 10 years, but I’ll say Saltgrass is a completely different “animal” than Mimi’s Cafe or the absolutely mediocre (at best) Strouds.. Once word gets around that Saltgrass is open for business in Omaha, I’m confident they’ll be successful here- even though this particular location gives some “cause for pause”...

Ciao..LiO...Peace
Your mention of Texas and Saltgrass got me to thinking Saltlick’s BBQ should do a location up here. Don’t know that it would be successful but I would do my best to patronize it.
My old signature got too old. So old it was getting almost as old me as me. Yeah, it was up there in years.
The menu sounds a lot like Longhorn, at about the same price range. And Firebirds, right next door, is very similar. So I find it odd that they would locate a steakhouse next to another popular steakhouse. Time will tell. They are basically at the far back end of VP, which means absolutely no one drives by the place unless that is their specific destination.

The price range is similar.. But Saltgrass is a much better option and has better food than Longhorn’s imo. It’s similar too, to Firebirds (a place I like). Menu pricing especially.. but I think both can coexist peacefully and profitably.. But I agree..

I know you're talking about the VP side, but from Dodge street it is very obvious in the evening/night as they added a lot of lights and signage.
I still miss Mimi's and eat at Mimi's in other cities.

Having previous worked part time out at VP for 11 yrs, that restaurant building was invisible to most shoppers while shopping and most pulled in from 168th.
It would have been better if it had been built on the south side of that piece of land.
They are part of the Landry’s chain, which is well respected. So perhaps they are willing to bet some money it will work. If not, well, it will be no big deal to Landry’s.

Brickhouse Tap and Tavern that was there before Joe's was also a Landry's restaurant.
Landry’s sold the Joe’s Crab Shack chain 14 years ago. It then reaquired it in 2017, when it was in bankruptcy.
They own Morton’s, McCormick and Schmicks and Oceanaire, among many other properties. I have never had a bad meal at any of their restaurants, going back 20+ years.
