I think Crossroads wore the fountain thing out with the bogus sculpture fountain that was located for years in Brandies between the elevators. I must of walked into Brandeis 100 times hearing people make smart remarks about the glorious Brandeis fountain. It was a running joke. They used to brag that fountain up like it was a work of art and it just was not so.

The fountains were by the escalators not the elevators and actually they won awards for design in the 60s. You didn't like them? What a shock.

I never saw those Brandeis fountains you guys speak of -- or, I was too young to remember. I never knew "Crossroads Mall" existed until it was remodeled in 1987/88, and there was a big grand opening, and Brandeis/Younkers was remodeled already. I was just a kid in Millard, and I only knew about Westroads, up until then.

Poor Crossroads. Those were good times. I did love the funnels, with the blue & red entrance. I was in love with it in a way...

Oh I know it was touted as a real work of art. Those panes of glass were imported all the way from Paris and constructed by a great Omaha artist. There were articles in the World Herald about the great fountain all the time. Nobody I knew was buying any of it.

I remember kids would always ride the escalators to the top and bounce pennies off those allegedly glorious panes of glass as they went bye. Eventually they banned people from throwing coins in the fountain because it was getting damaged.

Yeah those fountains looked dated after a while, but now they'd be a really cool retro look. As a kid in the 70's I loved seeing the fountains.

Lockwood development is rumored to be partnering with Krecji. Mostly office and residential, but a good amount of retail, mainly on ground floors. Plans announced this spring. City of Omaha is supposedly onboard with incentives. Maybe this will finally go?

That’s good news, that Target always seems to be pretty busy , I’m sure it does well. Unlike some other Targets in Omaha which don’t always seem real busy.

That comment by Trenton piqued my interest as well, but alas no further details. I thought I heard or read somewhere that it would be more residential than prior plans, but details have been kept under wraps. Maybe Trenton has an inside scoop

I don’t know about that- “a good amount of retail mainly on ground floors”.. Sounds like a mall type component to me..

We’ll see what, if anything, shakes out...

Would still like to see a casino on this site. With a 250 room upscale highrise hotel. The money generated could be used for Omaha’s road repairs and other needy projects. We really don’t need more retail on this spot and I’m wondering how many more 4-6 story apartments buildings Omaha can support. A casino makes the most sense.

Huh.. I hadn't seen that idea yet, but I like it, for the generated money purpose. On the other hand, I know a few people that would probably be there every night wasting money, and they currently only go to CB a few times a month.

Yeah, obviously not a realistic idea, but it would be interesting. My vote is to stick a fork in it and turn the Crossroads site into a park. I'm done and less than mildly interested in what happens here.

I hope this isn't a situation like last year with the Civic site where the mayor said that they had two proposals and stated on Grow Omaha when there was going to be an announcement about the site. Then months went by and nothing.

Wonder if they will relocate to another location in the metro ? . If they don’t Omaha will be one of the larger metro’s in the country with just one Barnes & Nobles. Smaller Lincoln and Des Moines still have 2. At one time the Omaha metro had 3 Barnes & Nobles that included one in Council Bluffs.
