The Husker Women’s Basketball team has lost 3 players to transfer, one starter, one part time starter and the latest was the Huskers’ leading scorer last season — and the Big Ten’s sixth player of the year.

Losing Leigha Brown looks to be a big blow. Stating she wants to be closer to home. Will be interesting to see with the current issues with corona virus if this happens more.

The men will lose Cam Mack, even if he doesn't go NBA, he has entered the transfer portal.

Also, not sure if others saw but it looks like NU will be playing K State at Sprint Center next fall in basketball. Then in following years in Lincoln and Manhattan KS. Love playing our former Big 12 opponents. Went to the game a few years ago in Lawrence against KU.

The announcement yesterday that many of the dorms of the University of Nebraska are going to be used to house recovering and quarantined Covid patients simply drives home the realization that there will be no college basketball season this year.

Let's wait till August or so to start to throw out the Basketball season. Football has a higher than average chance of not happening but way too soon to give up on basketball.

I'm all about hope and dreaming but everything I have learned and soaked up for the past 2 months from the medical professionals and the scientists tells me that the virus is not going to go away until a vaccine is invented sometime in 2021. I know people are going to hate me for telling it like it is but school starting back up this fall does not look like it is happening from 1rst grade to college. If it starts back up again it will all be online. Even without an audience you can not put basketball players together on the same court from different states and be safe. If they did try it the whole thing would blow up quick the first time some player got diagnosed with Covid. Take what the politicians and government are telling us at this point with a grain of salt. The only ones we can really trust right now are the scientists and medical professionals.

I think we need to wait and see. They haven't even officially cancelled this past season's NBA and NHL season's yet have they? We still have MLB and fall sports too before we talk about cancelling next season's college basketball.

I did hear though on the radio talk of college football possibly being played next spring....

This past NBA season is over and that will be common senses final answer. The NBA should of announced it weeks ago. Just today there was a story about how the NBA has talked about holding a playoff in an empty stadium in Vegas to end the season. It is preposterous and ain't never happening but still an interesting story.

https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/nba- ... port-says/

Another story on that same CBS.Sports web site that came out today was talking about how the NBA is currently trying to slash players salaries by 50%. The players union has countered with a 25% salary cut. The way the contracts are set up the players get paid twice a month still even with no games being played. This could get ugly real quick if they are not playing next season which is a strong possibility. I think the players better take what they can get before they end up with nothing.

Trump said during his press conference on Saturday that he had just got off a conference call with the commissioners of all the major sports and that he had told them that he wanted sports to start back up by September. A reporter asked him how you could have all those people in a stadium and he danced around his answer but stuck to his guns that it was going to happen. Yeah its going to happen just like we are all going to be back in church next Easter Sunday. It aint happening!

Nebraska basketball picked up a huge addition on Saturday afternoon when former two-year Pitt starter, Trey McGowens, announced his commitment to transfer to the program. McGowens is expected to sit out the upcoming season, but would then have two years of eligibility.

One thing I heard on the radio last week was that Nebraksa's recruiting class may not include any freshmen, which is unheard of. They did mention a 4 star center (don't remember name) that might join.

And we can't be mad at these guys for leaving. They would have to be stupid to stay.

It was not a good sign at all yesterday to see the #1 ranked high school football player in Nebraska confidently decide he would rather go to Minnesota then play at Nebraska. In this article he did not dis Nebraska but he did imply they were not up to snuff in their recruiting efforts.

https://247sports.com/college/minnesota ... 146244514/

I got nothing against our football and basketball coaches but so far their recruiting skills are not looking promising.

We spent through the nose on them and the next pink slip had better include the AD. Especially if we see either get an extension.

I somehow missed this. Kind of bummed. He was really fun to watch. I know they put him on scholarship, but not sure if that was just for last year (sometimes that happens to walk ons, one year deal only), of if he was going to be on for the rest of his career.

Either way probably best for him in the long term. If things break the way we hoped, he would end up most likely as the 8th or 9th player for NU. I think he could be on his way to a really good career at SDSU. Will definitely watch when he goes up against UNO.

When they put him on scholarship they very clearly stated that it was for the balance of the year only.

He was/is great and was fun to watch but unless he morphed significantly over the summer if we needed him to provide substantial playing time next season we will be right back where we were this year. If you believe the people that set out last year are what has been stated he would hardly see the court. Not a surprise to me he moved on and I wish him all the success.

Interesting idea in this article. For just next year doing some sort of mix between the Big East and Big 10. I imagine for next year things could be different. I don't mind playing some Big East teams, but what I would really like to see is maybe scheduling more of our old teams from the Big 8/12. If travel becomes an issue would love to see Nebraska schedule UNO for a home and home next year.

It's going to be interesting to watch how this upcoming season plays out. Will be interesting to see how the Power 5 conferences interact with the NCAA (and each other). I was surprised to see that the TV money Nebraska got from the Big 10 is more than what the Big East paid out to all of it's schools combined. There will be a lot of competing voices and needs.

Here's the article on the Big East/Big 10:

We would all love to see Nebraska play UNO but I think it is pretty safe to say that will not be happening. The last thing that the highly overpaid under achieving Nebraska coaches and Athletic director want to do is risk getting their heads handed to them by a local coaching staff and program just up the road that is operating on a fraction of their own budget. UNO would have a good chance of beating Nebraska right now considering the sorry shape that the Nebraska basketball program is in. Love to see the game and love to bet on it. I'm putting my money on UNO!

Florida had the problem of FSU, Miami, and the Gators not wanting to play each other. Their state legislature fixed that. No football games between the two state schools (and Miami that gets a fair bit of public support)? No money. Amazing how fast the respective ADs found room in their schedules for these games. Just amazing.

UNO should play UNL in all sports that the two schools each play. Or, no money. That would fix things.

I always wonder about these. Did they pass legislation? I've heard similar stories about football in Iowa.

I don't think Nebraska would prefer to play UNO. It's one of those everything to lose nothing to gain. Plus the risk now is greater obviously with the roster turnover going on at NU. I do think though there are so many variables this year if we do have sports this year, and what do they look like. Lots of things that would never have been considered could be on the table.

First off I am all for UNL and UNO playing games. ( CU too for that matter)
That being said the Gov gets their fingers in enough things and doesn't need to get into dictating the schedules of any teams.

IIRC, the legislature passed a law requiring a round robin approach where the three teams play each other at least once every two years. So FLA plays Miami in year one and FSU in year two.

Keep in mind that the most hard core Husker fan you know is at best an average SEC fan. Also when Jax opened a bypass loop for I95, there was a lawsuit over the paint color of the bridge. Not because someone overcharged or screwed up the work, but because there were three bridges already and each of the teams had their color on a bridge. The lawsuit sought to regulate the color chosen so as to not alter the balance of power in terms of having more representation in the neutral zone known as Jacksonville.

So, Florida takes football way more seriously than we do.

I don't think Creighton is afraid to play UNO at all. The odds of UNO ever beating a Creighton team are slim to none. Creighton is a minimum of a 10 point favorite over UNO no matter if they are on an up or down year. Creighton has nothing to fear at all from UNO. Creighton and Nebraska are two different cats.

I don't know if the term is afraid for CU (and NU) choosing not to play UNO, but clearly it's been their choice to not have an ongoing series. I asked Nick Bahe a few years ago about it on his show. This was after Nebraska had hosted UNO at PBA once but didn't renew it.

He did confirm UNO was open to playing CU. I had asked because CU consistently has other teams from UNO's conference on their schedule and teams that have worse RPI's. If that game is played, UNO players and fans are obviously pumped for that game. Creighton gains really nothing by winning but losees bragging rights with a loss. All of this is the same for Nebraska but probably worse for CU since they are in the same city and CU has been the better team. Nick even gave props to Nebraska for playing CU year in and year out when CU was in the Mo Valley.

You look at either teams schedule and you could easily replace UNO with about a half dozen of the teams they play and the game is instantly more interesting to the casual fan.

I do wish they would play each other.

Basically both CU and NU are afraid of the downstream costs of playing UNO. Every game is a risk to their players and playing a second tier team is just as risky as playing a team that was in the Sweet 16 last year. This is the great flaw of college basketball. The Home Court advantage is huge. UNO would want the standard home and home deal with either school and there would be 50% of the games where either CU or NU would lose to UNO given the home team advantage where the home team in bball has about a 70% chance to win against any other team.

I am sure UNO is no expecting home and home series with either CU or Nebraska. They could ask but I am sure they know it's not in the cards. Unfortunately for UNO, to help with the budget, they have to go and play road games at Power 5 and other big schools for the paycheck/appearance fee. If you look at their schedules since they went D1, this has been the reality and necessity. They've played at Washington State, Arizona State, Oregon and the like recently for the money. Those schools aren't making a return trip here. If UNO were to play Nebraska or CU, it would replace one of those games, and help reduce all of the travel on the team.

In other news it looks like Nebraska has wrapped up it's recruiting for next year by signing a big man. He will be the one freshmen in this class:

Husker assistant Matt Abdelmassih makess ESPN's list of 40 up and coming basketball assistants at #22. I don't think he will be at NU long term but great to have there now. With NU athletics being one of the few Power 5 schools with no debt I think financially NU has a big advantage in the current climate.

Former NU grad assistant and also director of player development in 2016-17 under Miles Ali Farokhmanesh is at #37.

Not a 2020-2021 basketball story and I didn’t know Creighton way back then but he sounds like he was a unique talent that was gone too soon..

Meet Mike Heck, the Nebraska high school and Jays standout who had 'unlimited potential'

How big was Mike Heck?

So big that his high school basketball coach equipped the Papillion reserves with badminton rackets to challenge his shots. So big that an old lady in an elevator asked Heck if he played basketball and a Creighton assistant replied, “No, ma’am, he’s a jockey for a dinosaur.”

Nebraska adds a walk on guard, looks to be about adding depth, high school teammate of our transfer from Pitt, Trey McGowens:

Recruiting wise we are now making offers for 2021, 2022, and 2023, all on the East Coast, thanks to Matt Adbelmassih's strong ties out there:

Non Conference schedule released. NU will host an ACC team in the ACC/Big 10 Challenge. I am excited for the previously announced game against K State in KC.

Kobe King is not joining the Huskers. That was fast, hasn’t even practiced with the team and he is already gone.

And even faster

Nebraska fills roster spot vacated by Kobe King with combo-guard Elijah Wood
