Gayle Sayers, Johnny Rodgers, Eric Crouch, Bob Boozer and Marlon Briscoe would all make a list here.. Terence Crawford is definitely on the short list at the top for popularity at the peak of his career thus far..

I'd say Bob Gibson would be at the top of the popularity list...

I’m not sure about that, Bob Gibson was so good that the MLB literally had to change the game by lowering the mound. Gayle Sayers also is still considered one of the NFL’s best backs ever, too. From a popularity standpoint outside of Nebraska they definitely make a case.
