I honestly can't believe the idiocy of all involved down in Lincoln letting Frost in front of a camera right now. He never comes off as the sharpest tool in the toolbox, but wow, he's making Nebraska look bad right now. The entire view coming from Nebraska and the typical Nebraska fan is beyond myopic. I ventured to a popular message board and the message board people seem clueless. "The time has come for us to leave this conference. This is just another Big XII situation where everyone is voting against us."

I expect that from message board people, but the brain trust down in Lincoln isn't really doing anything to constructively guide the situation. I've long thought that those in charge at UNL aren't overly savvy. Just look at the ineptitude of guiding a multi billion dollar business like Nebraska athletics over the last 20 years, but this is just another in a long embarrassing line of poor decisions and image hits from that athletic department. They just look like a bunch of whiny entitled hicks and hayseeds right about now.

Doubt Nebraska will play this fall, unless they want to cut ties with Big10. Is this crisis finally showing that the BiG Red doesn’t fit in the Big10.

Husker Football has seen so many all time lows in the past 10 years. Unless my eyes deceive me we have another one we can now add on to the ever growing list. Never ever have we seen Nebraska Football humiliate itself like this in front of the whole country. The Big 10 schools held a vote to decide if the season would be postponed and 10 voted yes and Nebraska and Iowa voted no. That means Nebraska lost in a fair vote and they now have to honor the decision. End of story. Whats with all this talk all of a sudden where it is alright to void the outcome of elections? All honor and respect for civility and everything is thrown out the window when you void the results of an election. The Huskers push their luck here and they will get thrown out of the Big 10.

This is really getting embarrassing. The saber rattling continues. From UNL to the media in this state, the "play football at all costs" crowd is looking like a bunch of fools. Grandpa is right. This is a public humiliation nationwide the likes we've never seen from the typical on field 56-14 behind the woodshed spankings that NU football routinely endures...

It certainly seems embarrassing for at least 2 guys on the board. I recognize this as being a coach who has taken his team through months of now potentially worthless workouts, quarantines, and isolation and is now frustrated that the league is telling his team he can't play outside the league even if other teams want to. IF the SEC manages to play this season and to some level of success, the anger within other conferences and players while sitting at home watching them will be absolutely maddening for them.

Definitely embarrassing.

This all seems to assume that the Big 12 will take Nebraska back, though I can see how it would be beneficial on both ends.

I like Nebraska in the Big 10 more. I say this as an Iowa State grad: Big 10 teams, in all sports, are more challenging and sophisticated. I had a feeling it might not last. The image that springs to mind is that of a high school valedictorian from a small town with aspirations to attend a private liberal arts college in a big east coast city coming to find they're not cut out for it.

It's embarrassing because Nebraska, as usual, tries to act like they are somehow bigger and more important than everyone else in the room. They aren't. They haven't been for a good 15 years. They are a lower middle of the pack faded dynasty desperately clinging to any shred of relevance and the notion that people outside of the state care and they hold sway. They really don't. It's not the 90's anymore and a school that hasn't won a football conference championship in over 20 years doesn't get to steer the boat.

In context, it's also more embarrassing because the Big Ten was Nebraska's life raft. They tried to throw their weight around in the Big XII and were shot down. They had enough cache remaining back in 2010 to take their ball and go away to stick it to Texas. Now, they are already the disgruntled child at the table in their new league. At what point is Nebraska the problem? At what point does their inflated sense of ego and self worth become detrimental to everyone else. In 2009, it was easy to say that Nebraska wasn't to blame and they had to do what's best for them. Today, it's not nearly as clear and nothing they've done on the field bolsters their sense of entitlement.

They chose to join a league. The Grant of Rights makes it difficult to leave and act like a free agent. They've had no problem cashing the Big Ten checks, but the second they don't get their way, they are already talking about taking their ball and going home...if it was Alabama talking that way, there would be some credibility. Nebraska just looks like the 45 year old ex boxer with brain damage rattling on about how "I used to be someone...I used to be a contender. I'm still the best."

That's pretty funny. With the product the Skers have put on the field the last few years, you'd think they, as well as the fans would just go along with it. Look, I love the Huskers, but I also recognize this season wasn't our best shot at a national championship. Not like were really missing much. Watch em go out and schedule a season with a bunch of losers and still go 4-8, void their B1G membership, get rejected by the Big XII, plus fill the stands and give us a big ol case of corona. Yeah, sounds like a win to me.

Big12, full steam ahead. Athletes in the Big 10 are going to be very angry about this.
https://big12sports.com/news/2020/8/12/ ... ports.aspx

What Nebraska might be angry about is why the Big10 would have them shut down what might essentially be considered routine non-conference games?

Ohio State can pull their weight. And then some... Ohio State by protesting the decision would take pressure off of Nebraska as looking like idiots. But they are long established in the conference, and Nebraska is the newcomer. Ohio State won't be leaving the conference, and I think Nebraska might be smart not to rouse the bear. The best we can hope for by Ohio State protesting the decision, is the Big Ten allowing schools to schedule non-conference games on their own accord under the premise that they will still have to play in the spring if the conference decides to go through with that.

Anyway, I'd like that. I'm of the position that players would be just as likely (if not more likely) to catch COVID outside of the training facility and stadium, and we could have football as long as no fans are invited. Allow players to opt out with no penalty.

Big 12 would accept NU back in a heartbeat. B10 really screwed this up by coming out with a schedule one day and then cancelling everything the next. Also the pressure would be on those schools that cancel only to watch other schools get quality reps for the year and develop young players. How rusty and unprepared would they look after not playing football for 2 years? Not even getting into the recruiting implications here, who wins if the recruit is torn between michigan and texas? Michigan ain't playing!

Then you get into logistics of seniors losing any more chances of playing. Give them another year? So they have to take classes for what? So everyone gets another year of eligibility, uhh there's the thing called the 85 scholarship rule and you're not missing out bringing in an entire new recruiting class just to keep seniors around. The dominoes that fall haven't even been realized once you start looking at all the other sports bankrolled by football.

As I said in a post above, it's time to start thinking about trimming the fat and eliminating the sports that bring nothing to the table. You could cut 10 sports at Nebraska and 5 at UNO if the NCAA and leagues would allow a lowering of the minimum required sports for D-1 membership. Plenty of varsity sports should be funded and moved to club sport status. Too many mouths to feed and the current situation just made a bad model more glaring.

And some seniors will have to leave while some underclassmen and recruits will lose opportunities in football and other sports. Life isn't fair. The millions of people on unemployment already know this. These athletes will just learn the lesson a bit earlier than expected.

the problem here with some conferences playing and others not, is the NCAA should be able to issue a blanket ruling. The inequity isn't fair. But, we know the NCAA is truly toothless on football and they try to push back or end the season, it may just hasten the breakup of the NCAA and formation of a power 5 super league. They are trying to walk a line and keep the status quo, but failing miserably at it. The lack of leadership at all levels is appalling.

They were speculating this could lead to the NCAA or at the very least, the Power 5 Conferences going out on their own away from the NCAA.

It probably is the beginning of the end.

I was looking at the comments from various AD’s. Obvious they were all reading from the same script, forced on them from the Presidents.

And frankly, it was a political decision by the Presidents of each University. Presidents are ahead of the pack when it comes to PC culture and feel good policy.

My God ... the horror of running Cross Country.

If Nebraska leaves the BIg 10 it will be just another step deeper into the dark abyss. Nebraska's reputation has been destroyed and tarnished the past 10 years. I don't think Nebraska's national reputation can take much more. They might be able to sell this line of B.S to gullible Husker fans but the national audience is going to see it for what it is. You impress recruiting prospects by winning Bowl games and Championships. Future recruits will want nothing to do with Nebraska after seeing them get beat up for years in the Big 10 and then cutting and running to an easier conference.

We'll see how the big 10 does in recruiting if they shut down and other conferences go ahead. Recruits do not want to go to a school that gives the impression they do not care about football, no matter how good the rest of it looks on paper. See Colorado.

Has there been any comment on the record from any NU official, athletic department or otherwise, suggesting that NU might consider leaving the Big 10 because of this?

Tom Shatel in the World-Herald is floating the possibility but it seems extremely far-fetched. NU is addicted to the Big 10 payouts. It's always about the money.

Very true. Pound for pound, the best recruits in the country come from SEC country and Texas. Shutting down will not help Big10 recruiting in that area. With no guarantee of playing football in the spring, Big 10 is going to be 4th best conference for next 5 years.

More lies and stupidity from the forums 2 Ministers of Misinformation  There are so many obvious lies and speculations in those two posts mixed in with a strong dose of stupidity but what ever lets make this short and sweet!

THE SEC AND THE BIG 12 CONFERENCES WILL NOT BE PLAYING THIS SEASON.

The big 12 and the SEC are located in the heart of the Trump Confederacy so their thought processes are currently suffering from delusions and denial. With the virus running wild in the South along with most things wide open there is not a chance in the world that the virus is slowing down in the next month before the season starts. There is just not a chance in gods green earth these 2 conferences play!

We now end this brief trip to realityville so that you 2 Ministers of Misinformation can return back to your fantasy worlds!

It was their only choice. It was fall in line or leave the conference...with nowhere else to go and no guarantee any games would happen this year anyway. No guarantee they'd be invited back to the Big XII and that conference could still be unstable in the future and would likely lead to lesser payouts down the line.

Their posturing was transparent. They brought a knife to a gun fight. Their posturing was "all hat, no cattle".

So, they'd want to run back to the league (and the school that ran the league) that was supposedly so abusive that the entire situation was so untenable only a decade ago? That's where the Big XII talk loses me. What has changed? Is it not still a conference led by Texas, first and foremost, along with the other schools in that state? Would Nebraska still not be outvoted in every conference vote?

And then, the money would be less, as you said. Nebraska is a faded and damaged brand. They would hold even less sway in the Big XII in 2020 than they did in 2009.

I still see it as an empty threat with no real merit. nebraska would be a laughingstock if they ran back to the Longhorn network after all the bluster of a decade ago about how that conference was broken and NU was taking its talents to a league that deserved them. This would be like a spouse running back to an abusive relationship because they got in an argument with their new spouse.

The Big12 is in a better position than they were 10 years ago yet they don't have the money the B10 does. B12 has better natural rivals for NU than the B10 even minus CU and Misery and travel to them is much easier. The weather also better suits the current style of offense better and recruiting may be better in B12. The B10 and their shoddy leadership are wrong to deny NU the ability to play a few games. The new commissioner is a real piece of work and the league seems like it's run by lawyers.

I’m thinking this could well lead to major realignment again.

Raise your hands if you believe the a Big 10 will allow football games to be played when temperatures reach below zero windchill. Look for March and April scrimmage games.

Yeah I never thought they would leave. It's the richest conference and the academic benefits for NU have been fantastic. It was interesting to see how Ohio State echoed some of what Nebraska had already been saying. It does go to show you that despite NU's recent lack of success, how much cache or value that brand still carries.

Nebraska announcement- https://www.cbssports.com/college-footb ... cellation/

There was no perfect solution for this. There are plenty of reports out there that the Big 12 would have welcomed them back. But with Big 10 money for both athletics and academics, I didn't see that happening.

We should also point out there was never a threat to leave. NU was just making noise about playing a non conference schedule this fall (which OSU came out basically said the same thing).

We must be honest and own Moo's and Frost's sins. They were out of line. An important Big 10 vote was held and Nebraska lost fair and square. When you agree to have a vote you are giving your word and honor to ACCEPT the results and abide by them. Nebraska was a full card carrying member of the Big 10 and when things didn't go their way they were ready to break rules and be uncivil and even cut and run and make their own schedule. The Nebraska brand was once again tarnished.

That hot seat that Frost & Moos are sitting on just got a notch or two hotter. The embarrassment from this incident will not be forgotten by the media or the Big 10.

Actually I don't think it got hot at all. Again, you saw similar quotes come out of Ohio State after Nebraska made theirs...

Here's an article from a SEC website praising Nebraska:
