Quick question, do you guys still get the grocery store ads delivered? My print subscription is up at the end of the month and I am trying to decide what to do.
My yearly print + online subscription was $265.20. I decided to go with Sunday print + 7 day online which is $9.12/month ($109.44 annual). For some reason 7 day online only was more expensive @ $10.99/monthly.

They want to Sunday paper in your hands so that the distribution count for the ads is higher and thus higher rates for the ad insert buyers.

Yeah I noticed that too. I do Sunday paper with full online 7 days.

I just took an offer from them for 5 months digital for $5. BUT will cancel after that.
I just signed up for that 5 months for $5 dollar offer on August 20th. I will cancel in mid January too! The paper really is only worth about a dollar a month.

We get the ads in the mail on Tuesday. FYI, Baker's does not include their ad in the mailing. They stopped doing that several years ago.

Can't you just see the ads on their web site or app?
Some folks prefer to have the physical ad. Trust me. I got yelled at by a lot of folks when Baker's ditched the physical ads as a cost saving measure. They yelled enough that each store ended up with a list of customers where we mailed the ads to them every Monday. At my store, that was a couple hundred each week. Figure the stamps, envelopes, then the time and labor of sending them out.

Around here Kroger still inserts ads in the Tuesday mail thing with coupons for fast food etc.

It was a decision made by the Dillons division and so far as a I know it was limited to Baker's. It was supposed to be a cost saving measure, but I think it ended up costing just as much. I do know they went back to the OWH, but OWH raised the price.
I got my bill yesterday. Price went up from $167 to $213 for 13 weeks! I tried to call for an explanation and possible price negotiation, but the estimated call wait time was 26 minutes and I didn't have the time. They will be hearing from me, but I feel like they've got me over a barrel. This after subscribing for three decades.

I never thought they would actually drop the paper, but my parents hit their breaking point when they got their increase notice a couple weeks ago. Went up from about $57 to almost $83 a month. My dad keeps everything so he had the last price increase notice, it was December of 2019 and they were paying about $42 a month then. Basically doubled in price in less than a year.
Those prices are crazy. my subscription was going to be only $265 for the whole year for print and online. I can't imagine a bill for $83 for one month.

But But But they made up for doubling the price by giving you half the paper of not so long ago!!!

After not being a subsriber now since Dec of 2017 I got a letter in the mail offing me a "Deal" to come back
17.33 / month using easypay AND they would wave the 8.95 activation fee!!!!!
If / When I cancel there would be a 5.00 fee.
WIth up to six perimum editions per year this are not included in the price and will result in a shorter subscription length based on the higher price of these.
Future pricing subject to change. I found not find a statement on the offer on how long the "offer" price would last.
On 5/14/17 my renewal statment had the following prices
52 weeks 270.40
26 weeks 135.20
13 weeks 67.60
On 6/11/16 my renewal statment had the following prices
52 weeks 231.40
26 weeks 115.70
13 weeks 57.85
It was the same as above on 9/16/13
On 9/19/04 my renewal statment had the following prices
52 weeks 143.00
26 weeks 71.50
13 weeks 35.75
These are all for 7 Day / week deleivere subscritions.
( Ya, I have a archive of scanned documents going back a long ways)

Noted in today's O W-H:. Editorial pages will run Tuesday-Sunday. I guess there is nothing to editorialize about on Mondays, especially in a presidential election year.
I also find it interesting that the broadcast media is silent on this subject. Channel 3 can sorta be excused, since the Buffett World-Herald is their "Media Partner™", but where's the hard-hitting investigative journalism that Mike "Fright" McKnight is famous for?
(Of course, 3/6/7/42 don't want the OWH to turn around and shine a light on TV's pathetic local news ratings...)

I subscribe to their online edition, I think they’re auto billing me $10.95 per month. I’ve subscribed to that for awhile now..
It’s a rip job, but I want to keep the W-H as a local news source outlet so I bite the bullet...

Agreed.
I get the Friday, Saturday and Sunday print and 7 day online, which is how I read the OWH 90% of the time.
Customer service used to be excellent. It is Nothing more than a bad joke now.
I thought it quite the metaphor when, one morning last winter, my Friday paper literally blew away it was so light.

That is quite a telling metaphor indeed, lol. People would be shocked if they held a Weekday W-H edition from 20 years ago in their hands vs what you’d hold on to today..
And remember the days when the Sunday W-H literally bursted at the seams?.. Ah the memories...
In fairness, this is the way it is everywhere, at least everywhere in the United States. While I subscribe to a variety of print magazines (mostly food related, plus Consumer Reports), honestly I seldom read them. I used to look forward during my travels to picking up the local daily newspaper to compare it to what we had here in Omaha. That hasn’t happened in several years, as now I just sit at the gate with my phone or iPad and peruse whatever I feel like. Print media has become a niche market, it would appear. Like vinyl records.
I used to subscribe to several magazines (now zero, unless you count AARP), and haven't had a hard-copy newspaper subscription since 2005, and I'm old. I get most of my news from on-line legit news"papers." I do pick up the WSJ and USA Today (hard copy) at work, since they're free, but I feel funny reading them in the break room, like I got caught reading Medieval manuscripts or something.

Hasn't USA Today announced a plan to eliminate the print version in the next couple of years?

We get about a dozen magazine titles...but only because my daughter spends about 10 minutes a week taking online surveys for points. Then she uses the points for magazines, Amazon rewards, etc.
By the way, the Detroit newspapers are only marginally better than the OWH. We don't subscribe to either of them.
Holy cow! I just read an OWH editorial endorsing the gambling proposals. IN FAVOR! THAT has NEVER happened before. Harold Andersen must be absolutely spinning in his grave...or H E L L, as it were.
Many moons ago on this forum, I stated that legalizing gambling/casinos in Nebraska would only become probable when the “old guard” passes on. They’ve still trumped out Tom Osborne in opposition, but I don’t think he carries the same political stick he did 12 years ago..
It’s going to be close, but this election, it might have a chance to pass...
They hauled out Pat Loontger & a few others. The arguments are pretty weak & limiting it to horse tracks is as well. It is possible the time has passed as far as maximum return. The optimum time for casinos in Nebraska & specifically Omaha would have been in the 80s when Aksarben was thriving & there weren't tracks in Minnesota, KC & Iowa. Dozens of busses came to Aksarben & it was one of the top 10 tracks in the country. There was a circuit & Omaha was a huge stop on it. A casino at Aksarben would have cleaned up.
As I said, it's probably way past time for a full scale casino in Omaha. However, there is still an argument to be made in favor.
I just about fell over when I read the opinion page.

Pat is still around. I saw her on TV the other day telling more lies and B.S and selling hate. In the spirit of Trump and the racism he has made suddenly acceptable, good ole Pat and her fellow anti-gambling opponents have decided to attack and smear the Indians. All the attack ads harp on the point that this is just a scam by the Indians to make gambling legal and once it passes the Indians will use this as a way to open casinos all over Nebraska! The truth is it only makes gambling available at race tracks. The only racetrack in Omaha is at 66th & Q so I assume that is the only place in Omaha where the casino would be.
All this does not matter because I think it will be voted down and more importantly if it did get passed our Oligarch er I mean Governor would override it or stall it out in court.
