Nebraska's offense is a disaster. No way they score 4 touchdowns on Wisconsin.

Re: Nebraska Football 2020
Eee, hard to make a prediction if their QB has COVID-19. He had 5 touchdowns last week, so I guess he might be good... But it was against Illinois... Not that Nebraska is a whole lot better than them. But anyway, I definitely think Wisconsin will win if their QB is present, if not then I'm not entirely sure the 'Skers stand a better chance. Wisconsin has historically run up and down the field on the boys, so I'm not sure the QB really matters. I'm just looking for a respectable loss when it comes down to it. Something like 35-24.

Ok, I’ll predict 42-27 - Wisconsin wins. Despite the Lop-sided game at OSU, It never felt like it was the embarrassing out-of control blow-out I feared might happen.
On another subject, does it bother anyone else how coach Frost always refers to the team as “our kids”, instead of “our guys” or “our players”, or “our Men?”

Re: Nebraska Football 2020
Looks like the "V" has helped Nebraska some more. Not only is the Badger QB testing positive for the virus we are now hearing that the back-up QB has tested positive as well. Wisconsin will have to play Nebraska with their 4th string quarterback. That explains why Wisconsin is now just a 4 1/2 point favorite. I was looking forward to betting this game in the next day or two but I think I will just wait...who knows how many more surprises the "V" may have for this game.
Story in the Badger Herald- https://badgerherald.com/sports/2020/10 ... ree-weeks/
Addendum- It looks like overnight the points continued to fall and are now down to 3 1/2.

From the W-H-
“Nebraska’s home opener is reportedly in jeopardy of being canceled as concerns related to COVID-19 continue to swirl around the Wisconsin football program.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Tuesday evening that the Badgers’ test positivity rate is near the threshold that would force the team to stop regular practice and competition for a minimum of seven days. That would scrap the Huskers’ game against the defending Big Ten West champs set to begin Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.”..

Re: Nebraska Football 2020
As careful as I personally have been about not contracting or transmitting the virus, I'll always maintain that sports are equal or lesser risk than many of the other activities that people have engaged in during this period of time. The Big 10 should have just went on with the season as planned and left themselves enough time to account for postponed games. The prognosis on the virus now looks as bad as it ever has, but the Wisconsin player(s) contracted it after only one game... Hard to believe the virus was less likely contracted in house vs. during the game from an Illinois player. And I'll always also maintain that most people in their every day lives really aren't trying that hard not to get sick with this. Pretty F(n') disappointing we are still dealing with this in the capacity we are. My point is it appears we would be dealing with the virus in this capacity had sports happened or not and that people will do what they will outside of any controlled setting and get sick and in turn get others sick, and that people needed to (really) shut down six months ago if we wanted to be in better shape now. I'll still do my part going forward of not doing much, wearing a mask and such, but I've given up much of my hope that I wouldn't contract the virus at all, due to it's current prevalence.Omaha Cowboy wrote: Tue Oct 27, 2020 9:33 pm Which, again, begs the point I raised a couple of weeks back- why even risk playing this season?

Well, I think I’m with nebugeater..
At present, this game probably has a 10% chance of kicking off Saturday.. I’d suspect we’ll know for sure no later than “end of business” tomorrow (Thursday the 29th)...

The Huskers’ game Saturday against Wisconsin has been canceled and logged as “no contest” after the Badgers announced on Wednesday that it had too many positive COVID-19 tests this week.”..

Eh, I really wanted to see how they stacked up against the best in the west. I thought it wasn't going to be as bad as it been for much of the last ten seasons, but still a loss. Guess we really won't miss much.

Begging the old question-- Why didn't the season start Sept 5 to allow for rescheduling in instances like this? B10 leadership has been so downright awful.

That's where they messed up IMO. When they went to the conference only schedule, I feel it should have stayed that course, but they decided to cancel, then un-cancel, and here we are with unplayable games. The best decision would have been the conference-only schedule that would have started September 5th. Hindsight is (LOL) 2020. The silver lining in all this is that at the end of the season Nebraska will have one less ugly loss on their record. Still it is just about guaranteed that there is no way that Nebraska can win half of its games! Can Nebraska beat Northwestern in Chicago next week end? Nope! Nebraska's best chance of a win this year will be against Purdue. In short the more games the "V" causes to get cancelled the better the Huskers season record will look! Nebraska's real goal this season will to be able to win just 1 game.

Never did get a good explanation on why the Big10 waited so long to start the season when they could of started playing in September. Big Red should be well rested for Northwestern.

NU and Tennessee-Chattanooga want to finalize a deal to play in place of cancelled Wisc. IMO B10, given its overlord history so far, won't approve and will make them look all the worse. Would love to see their reasoning if that is the case. Maybe it's because of 'myocarditis'.

Might of been the only chance of winning a game this year that Nebraska had
Is this all some kind of conspiracy by Nebraska and Frost to get thrown out of the Big 10 and go to some candy a$$ league where they don't get beat up week in and week out

From the W-H-
“The Chattanooga Times-Free Press on Thursday morning reported that Nebraska was close to finalizing a game with Tennessee-Chattanooga — an FCS team NU last played in 2011 — for this Saturday in the wake of Wisconsin canceling a game with the Huskers due to COVID-19 positive tests.
The Big Ten, according to the report, has voted against the game.”..
I’m unclear if the Big Ten voting against the game actually forbids NU from playing it..but this is a sh!t storm of an idea imo..

Of course, it doesn't actually forbid them from playing it. You can do anything once. What the question is though is what penalties and what are the costs of doing it when Dad says no.Omaha Cowboy wrote: Thu Oct 29, 2020 10:12 am From the W-H-

I hope you are not inferring an element of greed here, as 'cash grab' usually suggests more of a corporate entity gobbling up every loose nickel. In this case, the dire budget of the NU athletic department can use every penny whether they make much from it or not.Omaha Cowboy wrote: Thu Oct 29, 2020 2:21 pmNot at all..NUub wrote: Thu Oct 29, 2020 2:05 pm To be clear and most importantly- this decision has nothing to do with player safety.

Have to disagree with you there, pretty strongly. You know it essentially funds the entire athletic department? And leaves a big black hole when the money doesn't come in. Now if you were to ask me if it went back to the old days of head coaches making $100K and majority of players coming because they loved the school and had the mentality to play out their careers as a 4th string walk-on hoping to get in on garbage time, I would be completely in favor. IMO money has decreased the likability of college football.

You can see it and I can see it and so can many others. This Nebraska coach and Athletic Administrator are further destroying an already deeply wounded football program. Nebraska football has barely survived a slew of bad coaches and Athletic Administrators and the current staff may just be the straw that broke the camels back. This crew may just bury the football program once and for all. As if the horrible recruiting and coaching wasn't bad enough now we have this crew repeatedly spitting in the face of the Big 10. Where is the empathy for Wisconsin and what they are going through with a head coach now infected and their state on fire with the virus and their Hospitals just about to overflow? We are well over 6 months into this pandemic and these Nebraska coaches, administrators and fans are so short sighted and brain dead that they cannot see that the 2021 season is rapidly becoming in Jeopardy. The first game in 2021 is supposed to be played against Illinois in Dublin Ireland on August 28th 2021. Who that is not drunk on the Trump Kool aide believes that in just 10 months a bunch of Americans are going to load up on planes and go to Ireland to see a football game? It ain't happening. The odds that we can get the virus under control and load up Memorial Stadium in 10 months have got to be slim at best.

Very unfortunate that the game was cancelled, it looks like tomorrow should be a beautiful fall day. I had predicted a win as well by 1 point. It’s starting to look like the whole season could be in limbo soon. Im glad they at least tried. Hopefully they can get a few more games in. The Big10 botched this whole season with the late start. The COVID situation was much better a month ago.

Re: Nebraska Football 2020
It is unfortunate. I understand Wisconsin cancelling if they go into a 7 day “no activity” period.
But denying a replacement opponent for Saturday? I can’t follow the logic. If the players want to play, if the “risk” is the same, oh well.
Now we have players all set to play. Will they just go out and party instead? And then contract the virus that they otherwise would have avoided?
But look at the bright side .. a week of practice that Wisconsin doesn’t get. Less risk of knee Injury.

I actually agree with almost all of this. It's disappointing to watch Nebraska constantly try to strut around like the have the biggest swinging Johnson in the room, but they really have become quite impotent. No one takes them seriously anymore, because the brand is so deeply damaged that they don't command the respect they did 25 years ago, let alone even 10 years ago. I was listening to Gary Sharp on Thursday, and he said the only way to fix Nebraska's perception problem in the league, and nationally is to win. Easier said than done as this program has seemingly lost the roadmap to relevance.
At this point, I can absolutely see this fanbase seeing these perceived slights as totally untenable and the powers that be like Moos and Frost pushing the program back to the Big XII or, god forbid, even towards an independent status. The fact that there are people in this state calling in on call in shows that think Nebraska would do just fine as an independent and think their stature matches that of Notre Dame, shows how myopic the fanbase has become.

Re: Nebraska Football 2020
Not that I'm one of those people that think they should go independent... I think they should shut their trap and focus on improving. But that thought makes you wonder who would schedule them if they were to dump the BigTen. And lets be honest, nobody with half a brain wants them to rejoin the Big Tx league.omaha79 wrote: Fri Oct 30, 2020 2:40 pm At this point, I can absolutely see this fanbase seeing these perceived slights as totally untenable and the powers that be like Moos and Frost pushing the program back to the Big XII or, god forbid, even towards an independent status. Obviously Ohio State is pretty fond, but how would the rest of the league perceive them leaving? Would some of them schedule Nebraska with open arms or would they thumb their nose. Would the BigTen even allow them to schedule Nebraska?
Assuming they would want to, I think it would be pretty solid independent status if they could get a half/half BigTen/Big12 schedule. Think of some of the former and current conference mates, and a lot of them would be almost locks every year.

I mean, I'm sure all these teams would love to beat up on Nebraska. Add in two cupcakes and that is a full schedule. I'm sure they could easily make it happen... But would anybody outside of Nebraska watch? Could they negotiate a TV Contract? Could they recoup the loss in BigTen revenue? Those answers are almost 100% no.

Re: Nebraska Football 2020
Northwestern playing at Iowa this Saturday is only a 2 1/2 underdog. Last week Northwestern playing at home beat Maryland 43 to 3. The Huskers better get over not playing Wisconsin real fast and start figuring out a way to get a win in Chicago. The team I saw playing Ohio state ain't up to the task. Huskers will not get their first win in Chicago.

The proverbial “shut up and play”.. With the addition of WIN comes to mind here..omaha79 wrote: Fri Oct 30, 2020 2:40 pmI actually agree with almost all of this. Easier said than done as this program has seemingly lost the roadmap to relevance.GrandpaaSmucker wrote: Thu Oct 29, 2020 6:06 pmNU’s athletic department probably has a strained relationship with the league already.. This latest move doesn’t help to endear them to the conference either..and is likely looked upon as a “bad form gesture”..
Don’t look for the Big 10 to do NU any favors moving forward..especially after this...

I also pretty much agree with you. The NU football program has been irrelevant in college football since the 2001 season. That’s the brutal, but cold hard truth..the more the years pass with continual blow out losses, the less relevant the Husker football program becomes. As an alumni, it’s frustrating for me..and many of us here..Who for 40 years between 1962 and 2001, were treated to high level Husker football performance/excellence..
I’ve drank the Kool-Aid of Frost and Moos.. I’m still hanging on with them by a thread.. But it’s looking more and more like Smucker’s been right all along- About Frost (and Moos) being snake oil salesman..
The pandemic masks many things (pun intended).. We’ll see in a couple years if Scott Frost can turn the NU football program around.. But today, it’s not good form for the head coach and athletic department to alienate themselves further from the conference they so desired to be a part of 10 years ago...

Northwestern just knocked off Iowa 21 to 20. They kept Iowa out of the end zone for the final 3 quarters. Pretty much the only way the Huskers don't get spanked next weekend is if the virus saves them!

Re: Nebraska Football 2020
Odds makers have come out making Northwestern a 3 to 4 point favorite over Nebraska on Saturday. So they are saying we have a chance. I disagree with those experts strongly.

Wow that was amazing.
On a related note, been impressed with what Schiano is doing at Rutgers on his return trip there.

Huskers are ranked as the 2nd worst team
I mean they do suck bad and they are shameless loud mouths but 2nd to last might be over doing it.
