Pathetic losses like yesterday have to be creeping into recruit’s heads as well.
They already are - the article mentioned 2 recruits earlier but only one comment is still up.
Recruits seemed to notice, too. Tight end Thomas Fidone, NU’s top recruit in the 2021 class, also had a notable tweet.
“I’m not sure what to think,” he wrote.
Yep. A loss like the debacle on Saturday can do some significant damage...

But in 2021, the arrow must start pointing up..and the Huskers need to come through with (at least) a 7-5 record.. .
I think the needle is pointing to the Hawkeye’s putting a hurt on NU this Friday in Iowa City.. We’ll see about that.. The last 2 Husker-Hawkeye matchups have come down to the wire...
Ciao..LiO...Peace
If he can get 6-6 next year, I think it would be fair to give him one more crack...
I just don’t think 6-6 is good enough.. And I’ve been a supporter of Frost.. Even though 6 wins makes the team bowl eligible, still, it’s just not enough evidence that the program is making progress under his tenure..
The NU football program must make, at least, a minimal leap by the end of a potential 12 game 2021 season.. And I think 7-5 is the starting point where the university administration and fan base can begin to believe progress is being made.. I agree that stability is important and the carousel of head coaches the Huskers have hired since Frank Solich was fired has, incrementally, set this football program back further into the abyss each time..but if Frost doesn’t provide evidence of a winning season after his 4th year, I think it’s fair to take a hard look and potentially make a head coaching change before the 2022 season..
I’ve wanted Frost to succeed. Still do.. But I’m to the point, especially after seeing that ground breaking embarrassment on Saturday, when I ask the question- How many times must you hit your head against a hard surface before you realize it hurts?...
I told so many friends and co-workers this year was a "be careful what you wish for" scenario. Everyone that was out there calling out the Big Ten, filing frivolous lawsuits, and demanding Nebraska be allowed to play football couldn't see the big picture. No one outside of those with their scarlet colored glasses on thought this would be a good team.
Playing a Covid shortened season with no non-conference and little fall camp was the absolute worst thing that a poor team with little confidence could possibly ask for. On top of it, the administration and coaching staff invited national attention and ire towards the football program with their demands this summer.
I predicted something in the range of 1-7 or 2-6 back in August. People I know simply wouldn't admit that was a possibility and said the team "needed the reps." Ok. You're getting the reps and all the national scorn that's coming with this team looking like a D-II product trying to compete in the Big Ten. I hope it was worth it.
Bottom line: you can discount this season as a covid shortened mess...but only to an extent. That only goes so far. Ultimately, we will now have a program with 4 straight losing seasons and 3 straight under the savior anointed son head coach. Even if NU fans are willing to give him a pass over this, there is little doubt that 2021 will have him sitting on a seat that is somewhat warm, if not downright hot. After this season is over, there will be 9 months for the media and fans to dissect all of the deficiencies they saw this year, and I think the narrative will turn against Frost. 2021 is a make or break year.
I'd say anything less than a winning season, 7 wins in the regular year, will result in the end of the Scott Frost era. No coach, not even Tom Osborne himself, could survive 4 straight years without a winning season and expect to keep his job at this school. At some point, you just can't recruit to failure. I guarantee every other coach in the Big Ten is already telling every recruit Frost is dead man walking and it's just not working here.
So, I'm fully on record that playing this season will ultimately be seen in the record books as doing more harm than good unless next year is significantly better and 2022 builds upon that as well.

Okay, what if they go 6-6 and win the bowl game?
My expectations aren’t very high either, but I need to see a winning regular season- 7-5..then I can have some confidence the needle is pointing in the right direction going into 2022..
Consider this, even Mike Reilly had 1 winning season before he was canned after his 3rd year...
Like I said earlier, I don't know who would want the job, or who could do a better job. He only retains the job because the 'Skers can't continue to cycle through coaches every 3 years.

Less then 10 years ago my favorite team the KC Chiefs were a joke. They had been a joke for a decade due to 3 bad coaches. Finally the Chiefs hired Andy Reid who had just got fired from the Eagles after a couple of rough seasons. Andy Reid came in and the first thing he did was find a good qb named Alex Smith. Instantly on day 1 the Chiefs were legit and a contender. Now it is 6 or 7 years later and the Chiefs have won 4 AFC West Championships and a Superbowl and were just getting started! One good coaching hire can turn it around real fast.

By no means am I defending Frost, but if there was ever a time to sit on a coach, now would be the time and Frost would be the man.
I was pretty sure that the fans were drunk with the kool aide and they were actually prepared to stick with Frost for years. I was wrong. People have finally seen through the sales pitch Frost laid on us. His goose is cooked. Everybody is on to him. From the fans to the media to the BIg 10 he has worn out his welcome already. Caller after caller were calling into AM radio today heart broke with the realization that Frost was a disaster. The sportscasters are even admitting that its not working out for Frost and there is no sign it ever will.
He needs more time. We can’t continue to go through coaches every 3 or 4 years. He is probably the worst coach in the Big10 but we hired him and now we are stuck with him. I agree he’s not very good but I don’t want to pay him for five more years like we had to do with Pelini. I’d say give him till the end of 2022 season. He needs to fire his QB coach and the defensive coordinator ASAP. I’m not sure who we would get anyway to replace him, probably a Bill Callahan type.
There really is no excuse for what happened Saturday. If that's not a wake up call I don't know what is. I definitely feel we should give Frost another 2 years but some things need to be done differrently. Not sure if that means more staff changes or what. But Frost definitely needs to evaluate every step of the process and figure out where he needs to make a change.
It could be just me but I wish he would show a little more fire both on the sideline and in the press conference. Obviously not as crazy as Pelini but something more than Riley.
Nothing points to a win for Nebraska in this game. Need to just get it over with. Another pounding this week. Frost biggest challenge right now is to keep the team intact, it probably wants to splinter.

Anybody know the point spread? I do agree I don’t know the path to victory for NU in this game. Iowa will just run at Nebraska and I think successfully.

Iowa is favored by- 13 1/2.
The under/over is- 53 1/2.
The under/over on how many points Nebraska by itself will score is- 19 1/2
I don't see a way Nebraska can possibly keep this game close. Even if Iowa literally handed off the ball to Nebraska, Huskers don't have the offense to move 20 yards. I think Nebraska looks good on their opening drive. But once their scripted plays are over, they'll be lost again. Iowa knows how to stop QB draws on 3rd and long.
The NU-Hawkeye games the past 2 years have came right down to the wire..when most thought Iowa would blowout the Huskers..
So it’s hard to definitively pick this game and margin. Iowa can run the ball, but they have suffered from some inconsistent QB play..
So it comes down to which Husker team shows up in Iowa City? The one that stood up to a late surge by Penn St and won..or the heartless one that allowed a subpar Illinois team push them around Memorial Stadium last Saturday..
My guess is the Huskers will at least be competitive in this one, but will eventually succumb to Iowa for the 6th straight year-

As I stated, the Huskers came to play in this game.. But once again, stupid penalties and 2 critical turnovers cost NU the chance to win. Iowa’s MVP is probably their FG kicker..
26-20 Hawkeyes..
Simply another aggravating and frustrating loss for the Cornhusker football fan base to digest..after our collective Thanksgiving leftovers lunch.. ...
Very fitting end to a Nebraska game in the Riley-Frost era
Edit:
When people ask "what coach would want to come here?" Honestly, what coach wouldn't want to come to Nebraska at this point? The expectations are all gone, the fanbase is defeated, and if you actually turn it around you'll not only get a cool couple of million dollars a year but you'll be a coaching god to a lot of people around the country.

Pandemic or not.....Frost has lost this team. Frost wont be fixing this team ever. How do you fix a team that has no running backs or quarterbacks. No Center! Frost keeps saying "We got 2 good quarterbacks" when anyone with eyes can see that Adrian and Luke don't have enough passing accuracy to play the position. We got no quarterback would be the correct statement.
There can be no doubt about it anymore.....Frost has failed at recruiting suitable talent by far worse then any other coach we have ever had.
Another feel good loss like Ohio State and Northwestern , I guess that’s the best we can hope for these days. At least it wasn’t a pathetic blow out like last week. Wonder what next week has in store for the Huskers ? Maybe a win ? or a pathetic loss or a feel good loss, we will have to wait see. The play of the Nebraska center was disturbing.

Lots of excuses after the game. At the same time, another 2020 recruit enters the transfer portal. No doubt the program is a complete disaster. The offense and defense are never on the same page. And when Nebraska gets a timely opportunity, you know they are going to screw it up.
I just wish Frost would at least stop bringing up Riley's staff. If there is a culture issue, it's on him. At this point, he either recruits the wrong players or doesn't know how to coach. Things might be different than the 90s. Other coaches can seem to figure it out.

One of the excuses Frost used was that the bad snaps by the Center were caused by Iowa players on the side lines making clapping noises. Frost went on to say he spoke to the officials about it at halftime and Iowa stopped. That is total nonsense as anyone could clearly see those snaps were outrageously wild irregardless of if they were at the right time in the count or not. Frost after talking trash to the Big 10 now is accusing Iowa of cheating. When interviewed about the accusation Iowa's coach was shocked that somehow those bad hikes were being blamed on Iowa cheating! Iowas coach was not happy at all with Frost saying the bad hikes were due to Iowa cheating. Coach Ferentz said never in his 20 years of coaching had he heard such a thing. Frost is a loose cannon.
I was unable to watch the game, but it turned out a lot more competitive than I anticipated after what we saw from them vs. Illinois. I would expect nothing less than a close game that could go either way against Purdue next week. Anybody remember when Purdue was a checked box?

I caught a little bit of ESPN Game Day this afternoon and this was talked about. The discussion was on whether the Iowa coach had overstepped by talking about Frost’s complaint — One of the radio people said something to the effect - ‘Frost and Nebraska need to quit whining. They aren’t going to ever be a good team and they shouldn’t have left the Big 12.’ Another person said if his record was better than 10-19 - then he could talk.
They got Nebraska as a 1 1/2 point favorite playing at Purdue on Saturday. I don't think the Huskers win another game this year. That Husker offense is the worst offense I have ever seen the Huskers field in my entire life.

Everything I have seen shows Purdue as the favorite
For the record NEBUGEATER does not equal BUGEATER !!!!!!!

Purdue was a 2 point favorite by some for awhile. Right now it seems to be hovering around Purdue being favored by 1 to 1 1/2.
I think a fair point spread would have Purdue favored by 3 1/2.
Last week the point spread jumped around quite a bit. At one point Iowa was a 16 to 17 point favorite and at another point Iowa was an 11 1/2 point favorite.
Big "V" infection spreading through the Gophers program right now with dozens of players and staff testing positive could make this Purdue game the last game of the 2020 season.
No doubt the Scott Frost Football program in year three is in disarray. If they can somehow win this Saturday that will help the mood considerably. It won’t be easy, they need to win the turnover battle and limit penalties. It was so obvious watching them last Friday they just don’t do the little things well. To me that’s coaching.

I generally will turn a blind eye to this whole season, as I feel we are lucky to even see any college football this year. The Huskers are a good part of the reason the Big 10 is even playing this season. What's better? Bad product or no product? All the Big 10 teams seem to be struggling, and that opens the door for teams like Northwestern and Indiana to excel. The 'Skers begged for a chance to grab the low hanging fruit and failed. Oh well. But the point is we are lucky to even talk about this. There's no telling what the record would look like had 2020 been the year as planned. I think I remember the schedule looking alright for a 6-6 season. There's just no telling.
Moos said today that he is happy with Frost and his job will be safe as long as he is the Athletic Director. That pretty much clears the question up of whether they both get fired next year or not. I would say yes they both will get fired next year by this time!

IT may come to that at some point. It will not be next year.
That's how I feel. They're gonna hold onto Frosty until it is absolutely clear nothing is happening. We just have to act like this season hasn't happened. Next year will effectively be his year three. I think if next year he can prove things aren't getting worse than he started(4-8) (5-7), they'll hold onto him. I actually think they'd hold onto him even if he goes as little as 2-10 next year. But by 2022, he's gonna have to make a bowl game if he wants to keep his position. Just my thoughts.
As for next week, I have the score 28-24 Purdue... Unfortunately. If the "Skers win, I'll be pleasantly surprised, but I won't be expecting much.

I think it depends on what we define as “next year”. If “next year” means after this season, heading into what we hope to be a full, 12 game 2021 season, then NO, Frost won’t be fired (nor Moos)..
If “next year” means, after a full, 12 game 2021 season and the Huskers win 6 games or less, then it is fair, before heading into 2022, to take a HARD look at whether Frost (and Moos) should remain as Head Coach and Athletic Director respectively...
More on the matchup this Saturday later in the week...

That's what I think it'll be. 2022 will be the year something HAS to be proven on the field. To me that means 6-6 bare minimum in 2022, win or lose bowl game. I think Frost and Moos are on Solid ground through the 2022 season, and if they underperform in that year, they are both toast. If they are to go 6-6 in 2022 and win their bowl game, they might be signing new long-term contracts. Of course, all that could happen next year, its just the product this year really doesn't inspire any confidence that it will.

I agree- but I think that regular season win total needs to be 7 games in 2021 to indicate progress to the administration and fan base.. But other than that, we’re on the same page...
