Losing to Minn was lower than a loss to Rutgers the way the deck was stacked this last weekend.

Agreed..

Minnesota was down 33 players due to Covid, but still came to Lincoln and won. That’s why I stated right after the game, this was NU’s worse loss of the season..Even lower than Illinois imo.. Both were horrific though...

Yeah I was thinking this loss was worse. Illinois loss looks even worse now that they were so bad they fired Lovie Smith.

Husker game against Rutgers moved to 6:30 on BTN Friday night because of cancellation of Indiana Purdue game. Both Indiana and Purdue having Covid issues.

Good news, now I don't have to leave work early on Friday.

Huskers are now up to a 7 point favorite over Rutgers. The Huskers being favored for this game is nonsense. The Huskers will be lucky to win this game much less cover the points. Nebraska 23 Rutgers 31

Always fun to take a trip to the coaches hot seat page to see what they got to say .............

They got Scott Frost sittin on the #2 Hot Seat but they say we are too stupid to fire him this year! - http://coacheshotseat.com/chsblog/archi ... cott-frost

"How can one possibly lose an average of 7 games a season for 3 seasons in Lincoln and keep your job when just a few years ago then Nebraska AD Tom Osborne said when firing Bill Callahan from the head coaching job at Nebraska that…

“A 7 – 5 record is not acceptable at Nebraska.”

Chalk it up to the Pure Damn Arrogance and Hubris of Nebraska AD Bill Moos who will in our opinion…

Burn Down Nebraska Football
Burn Down Nebraska Athletics
Burn Down Entire State of Nebraska

…before Bill EVER admits he was wrong about ANYTHING!

Reality is Scott Frost can continue on Totally Damn Failing as the Head Coach at Nebraska and he will NEVER be fired until you fire Bill Moos first and to that we can only say for anyone that would defend that Absolute Nonsense…

Your A$$ should be in a Mental Institution!"

I should be cold though. Randby also said the temp should be around 27 degrees in NJ around kickoff...

Rutgers 27 NU 17.
NU just to inconsistent and to many boneheaded mistakes. Will this be Martinez final game as a starter at Nebraska ?

He’s only a Junior. So unless something drastic happens, he should be back next year for his senior season.. The jury’s out whether he’ll start however..

As far as a game prediction goes, I predicted several months ago, before this pandemic season started, that NU would win 2 to 3 games. So my win prediction was right on point. I believe most of us here thought the same thing.. It’s the fan in me..but the pattern is, NU follows up a clunker with a more spirited performance. So to follow that pattern, I’ll say-

Nebraska- 31
Rutgers- 21..

NU finishes 2020 with 3 wins...

I actually thought the team was capable of 6-6 had the season gone on as normal. I actually thought they were going to start the normal season 4-0 if I recall the schedule correctly. Now based on how this season actually went they could have easily gotten to 5-7 based on the fact they did actually beat Purdue and Penn State. That is assuming they would have won their "cupcake" games, although I dont remember who those were. That's how I view this season at least. Not as bad as it looks, and actually lucky it even happened.

I wish I could remember what the original schedule actually was... I found it. So if I go based off of what has happened this season I could guess how this season would have gone

Purdue W
Central Michigan W
South Dakota Tossup
Cincinnati L
Northwestern L
Illinois L
Rutgers W
Ohio State L
Penn State W
Ohio State L
Iowa L
Minnesota L

So IMO this is a 4-8 or type 5-7 (not great, but not worse than we've had recently) football team if this year was a normal year, just going on what actually happened and how the other teams are looking this year... I guess I should come back here after the game tonight to make sure I still feel that way. So yes I'm adjusting my feeling about the team even though they are 2-5 currently. In a normal year, Illinois also isn't curb-stomping the Huskers either. So in my opinion, it is totally appropriate not to use this season against Frost, or any coach for that matter. Just see how next season goes.

This is just a poorly coached team. Frost might be a good recruiter but his coaching is another story. They are struggling with a very average at best Rutgers team. Unbelievable amount of penalties and turnovers, sickening. Nebraskans deserve a better team than this junk.

Pretty much nailed this game and this season..

28-21 NU..

The Huskers, with well over 600 yards of offense were clearly better than Rutgers. But 4 turnovers and a kickoff return made it close..

3-5 for 2020...

Well, they won. I'm glad for that, but they made lots of mistakes early in the game. They had a few chances to make some big plays, but they got called back by penalties.

Couldn’t watch it down here as btn had it on blackout. BUT reading online tweets - people are wondering if McCaffrey is heading for transfer portal.

Glad they won, but turnovers remain a huge concern. Bottom line is Rutgers isn’t very good, but a wins a win and it’s something to build off of over the summer. Martinez had typical up and down game, some great runs and throws but then some ugly turnovers and poor passes. Is McCaffrey hurt ? Why did he not play at all.

4-8 = .333
3-5 = .375
5-7 = .416

So 2020 is slightly underperforming 2019 and slightly overperforming 2018. And like I said, if its me who decides things at the top, I'm just not counting this season. My expectations lie with next season.

I don't like all this losing, but I realize what we're working with and how sensitive a situation it could be to fire another coach in such short time. I try to keep an even keel, and I realize we are not just a couple years away from an impressive season, and to me there'd be no better man to ride out the storm with than Frost.

Nebraska is long past the time when it could beat a good team. Nebraska is now nothing but a scavenger looking for weak and wounded teams to eek out desperate and pathetic wins against. Nebraska found just the down and out team it was looking for this week in a bad Rutgers team playing without their starting quarterback.

Make no mistake about it this Nebraska team is getting worse every year. The chances that next season ends badly are close to 99%!

Look out! Nebraska has a chance to actually play in a bowl game now.. Something under normal times, would be impossible..

Frost should get one more season. He will need to win at least 6 games, possibly only 5 if the losses aren’t blow outs. 4 wins or less next year he needs to be shown the door. We would of given him enough time and it’s time to move on. I think even he might realize next season is critical for him.

He will probably have to ride with Martinez and put up with all his inconsistencies. Why would you want to break in a new QB when your job is in jeopardy. I’ve looked at next year’s schedule. 6 wins is possible if they can reduce turnovers and penalties. The defense showed improvement this year.

The story seems to be that Nebraska could of played in a bowl game but they decided not to. https://omaha.com/sports/huskers/footba ... op-story-1

So after crying about not having a season and threatening the Big10 with law suits the Huskers now have decided they are just to tired now to play in a bowl game. Frost and Moos and the whole program look more like politicians then athletes. Every other word that comes out of their mouths are lies and bull.

The Nebraska Football Program is pretty much as gutless and classless an organization as you want to find.

Nebraska would have gone to a C level game. Most of those rarely cover costs for the team and are in cities that fans don’t want to travel to, even in non pandemic years.

They have been in isolation for a long time. Many of the players report not seeing family for months. I can’t blame the kids for wanting to go home.

Frost and Moos were correct here. The team gets nothing for this kind of a game and they get a lot of good will from their returning players by letting them go home instead of playing in this year’s “Fill in the Blank bowl” played at 2 pm on 12/23 in front of a half dozen C-list Fox Sports sideline reporters who don’t have seniority to get into a New Years bowl. Just too pathetic to risk MIS-C in one of their players.

But all we have heard all season is that this team needs to play games and get the experience. Now they need time off. Its B.S. that a child could see through. You can't have it both ways.

I get it. Sounds like many of the players haven’t been around there families much if not all since March.

They also appeared to be quite disciplined on the protocols as Nebraska really never had an issue with Covid as many other schools did.

I think a few extra practices might have been helpful but it’s not like they would have gotten a string of them like a normal year.

Scott Frost has said numerous times over the past couple of years how it hurt the team just so badly that they could not have the extra practices and game experience that Bowl Games provide. Now out of the other side of his mouth he says were too tired to play in a Bowl Game. So Nebraska brought back Big10 Football and then got too tired to play the last game. All I know is that all these lies and lawsuits and sales pitches and excuses in the world are bad news for the future of Nebraska Football.

They should want to play the extra game. Don’t want to hear anything from Frost anymore that they need more practice time. Whole program seems to be in disarray and the kids are calling the shots along with the coaches. Big disappointment.

This is not a typical bowl cycle with extra practice not amounting to what they should be. If you get a game between now and Dec 30 you might get 5 practices in and they will be game prep. Not the extra practices that you normally get.

At some level I am disposed they didn't stick to the play anyone anywhere any time but I get it.

You are hating just to hate. Bowl games are business decisions. Go to the Orange Bowl? Nice per diem, beach access, pretty girls, the program gets a New Years time slot and a big check. Not hard to decide. Go to the Music City or Gotham bowls? Nasty weather, no one cares, players who have to give up Christmas for a game that no one watches or cares about and the program gets upset off players and staff for either nothing or less than nothing if the University ends up eating the ticket minimum.

Could the team benefit from more games? Hard to say. Could they benefit from going out on an up note and working on their holes in penalties and turn overs as well as special teams? Yes. I would rather they work on their coaching priorities and then get spring training going strong.

Better to sharpen up for next season. The program is on a precipice. They sucked pretty hard for a lot of years and Frost isn’t helping. Cutting him early is a bad idea and giving him an extension after this one is worse. Let him work his current deal and go shopping later if needed.

The one thing about the suckage is that the BS that Vegas plays with the point spread on Nebraska games is getting more obvious. That makes it easy to hope for a day when smart people skip the bets.

The fans are being sold a lemon and it is as clear to see as a blue sky.

They went from players parents and the State Attorney General filing lawsuits to have games played....... to just 8 games later deciding they were just to tired to play a Bowl game.

They went from trying to replace the covid cancelled Wisconsin game with a cupcake team against the Big 10s wishes........ to just 5 games later refusing a chance to play on a bowl.

Not hate ........just calling out poor sportsmanship being conducted on an obscene level by the Huskers.

I noticed you only listed teams going. Nebraska is not on an island here. Here's just a partial list:

Nebraska joined a long list of teams who decided enough was enough, among them Arizona State, Boise State, Boston College, Georgia Tech, Kansas State, Louisville, Penn State, Pittsburgh, San Diego State, SMU, Southern California, Stanford, UCLA, Utah, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Washington. For the Hokies, the decision ended a 27 straight bowl game run.

You can't compare Nebraska to those other teams. Nebraska joined those other states in opting out of a bowl game but none of those teams "Brought back Football" like Nebraska did. None of those teams had their State Attorney General file a lawsuit to get football started back up. None of those teams you mentioned had their players parents file a law suit to have games played.

The lame twisting and misrepresentations of the facts we see here in Nebraska Football mirrors what we see in recent politics. We even see arms of the media helping Nebraska coaches and athletic administrators create and perpetuate myths and lies. Its like all sense of honor and decency and credibility has been thrown out the window and any lie or twisting of the truth is Ok. Same as in politics the rule seems to be here that you can create your own false narrative and repeat it over and over and over again until it becomes the truth. Almost always people and organizations who act in this manner are losers who are going to lose big in the end.

I will be honest I don't fully understand your point. As far as Nebraska having some sort of obligation to play one of these so called "bowl" games this year I don't get. Nebraska seemed to navigate Covid as well as anyone without any major issues.

These are the bowls of a normal year where you get 2 weeks of practice and a nice trip with lots of activities and sight seeing as a reward for a good season. It would be basically neutral site game with being quarantined the entire trip.

The players have essentially been apart from their families since the spring on lockdown or a version of it since July. If they are done I don't blame them at all.

My preference would have been for them to get the extra practices (thought it sounds like with the way things turned out they had more than a normal year) of a week or so and be able to watch another game. That being said I won't lose any sleep over it.

Apparently a couple of bowl games for Dec 30th were interested in Nebraska. These would of been perfect. Gives them enough time to REST but they would get more time to prepare. I think they should of played and I have a hard time supporting a team that doesn’t always want to play to get better. Some players could of opted out if they didn’t want to play. Even if they lose the game, the practice and game time experience is worth it. Not much difference between 3-5 and 3-6 to me.
