Nebraska Football 2021-
Time to turn the page from the pandemic 3-5 Bowl-less 2020 season and on to possibly the most important Husker football season in nearly 20 years-
2021..
This season must show progress in the Frost/Moos era.. Questions still remain regarding the actual season itself. Will there be a “normal” offseason and training camp..or will there still be residual effects from Covid effecting the 2021 season as well?..
Will Martinez or McCaffrey start at QB..or will Logan Smothers emerge? Does NU need to at least hit 6 or 7 regular season wins for Frost to continue as Husker Head Coach.. Or is he secure with another non winning regular season heading into 2022?..
Will Mills return at RB? Will the offensive line solidify and will the defense continue to make incremental improvements? Same with special teams?..
It’s time- here we go-
2021 Cornhusker football season talk starts now...

And I’ll give you a 2021 regular season goal for Frost job security- Think 7 wins!..
Assuming, of course, a full 12 game regular season is played in 2021...

I think he could win just 5 or 6 games and his job will still be secure. 7 wins and he would probably get another extension. As long as Moos is AD his job is secure. One thing we have learned it’s going to be very difficult to get rid of Frost.

Especially if the 5-6 wins have a blow out against a weak team and one unexpected win over a top tier team.Cermak wrote: Sun Dec 20, 2020 9:20 pm I think he could win just 5 or 6 games and his job will still be secure. 7 wins and he would probably get another extension. Re: Nebraska Football 2021-
My initial thoughts are:
Illinois Tossup
Buffalo W
Oklahoma L
Michigan State Tossup
Ohio State L
Northwestern Tossup
Purdue Tossup but leaning W
Michigan Tossup
Iowa Tossup
Southeastern Louisiana W
Wisconsin L
Minnesota Tossup
So to me the floor is 2-10 and the ceiling is 9-3
Frost will be okay if he can win half the tossup type games.
I think they will start 3-2, which would be great. But I think they could end up as low as 3-6 before the cupcake game against Southeastern Louisiana. But I think they will be 4-5 or 5-4 by that point. Loss against Wisconsin, and a make-or break type game against Minnesota is the difference between bowl or no bowl.
I think a 5-7 season is enough for me. 6-6 would be a treat. A bowl win and a 7-6 ending would be fantastic.

Re: Nebraska Football 2021-
I see potential in this 2021 schedule to reach the 7 win mark in the regular season. There is also potential for another 4 win disaster..
6 wins? Meh. I still contend he needs a winning regular season record in his 4th season..
A lot if things can change between now and even the Spring Game (if it’s played) and even more when August training camp is in gear...

If crowds are allowed I plan to be at OU game. My in-laws live in Newcastle OK, just west of Norman.
That opener Illinois game is much more interesting now with it being Bret Bielema’s debut as the Illini head coach.

How lame of a hire that is... But I thought the game might be more interesting after seeing the trouncing Illinois laid down on the 'Skers this season.Greg S wrote: Wed Dec 23, 2020 4:32 pm If crowds are allowed I plan to be at OU game. My in-laws live in Newcastle OK, just west of Norman.

Wan Dale just jumped off the sinking ship. I don't blame him at all and I know he made the right decision. Frosties hot seat just got hotter.

Robinson did not immediately return a request for comment from The World-Herald, but he told ESPN he was leaving NU both because of his mother and to look for an offense that can develop him more for the NFL.GrandpaaSmucker wrote: Mon Jan 11, 2021 7:15 pm Wan Dale just jumped off the sinking ship. Re: Nebraska Football 2021-
I wish Wan Dale well, he was asked to do a lot at Nebraska. I consider him a long shot for the NFL because of his lack of size and other than a nice initial burst of speed, he’s not terribly fast. He was unable to break many long runs at Nebraska. But was good at getting open. Martinez will miss him the most as he was a favorite target. Wouldn’t be surprised if Martinez is considering entering the transfer portal with the departure of Wan Dale.

The odds are now out on winning the National Championship next year. Bet 10 dollars on Nebraska and if they win the championship you win 2500 bucks. I wouldn't make that bet if it paid 10,000 to win.

I’m a little surprised the QB coach Mario is still employed at Nebraska. To me the quarterback play has been one of the most disappointing aspects of Nebraska football the last few years. They just make to many mistakes. A lot of other B10 quarterbacks seem way more polished than Nebraska’s.

That is a valid point, the QB position was supposed to be one of their best strengths and instead it is one of the biggest uncertainties.

Agree on Verduzco. Haven't really seen much progress from QB's from when they arrive. He was at the top of my list of assistant coaches that might need to be replaced.

Re: Nebraska Football 2021-
I remember when there was (light) talk of a Heisman watch for Martinez. That went south quickly, but the kicker is I still think he and Luke are far more capable than what they have shown...which indeed leads to questions on Mario. Definitely has been curious to watch from an outsider perspective.skinzfan23 wrote: Tue Jan 19, 2021 9:24 pm That is a valid point, the QB position was supposed to be one of their best strengths and instead it is one of the biggest uncertainties.

All assistants being retained. I think this is a very risky move. Thought we might need an upgrade or two:

I agree with you guys.
If the Huskers have another 5-7 flopper in 2021, I think most all of this coaching staff will become unemployed. 6-6 shouldn’t be good enough either...

Westside's Avante Dickerson decommited over the weekend from Minnesota. Not sure if Nebraska is a favorite to get him but if they did, would be a big commit for NU.

I have read it is between Nebraska and Oregon and that Nebraska the front runner. Of course, that is info off the internet so we all know that it is 100% accurate.Greg S wrote: Mon Jan 25, 2021 11:39 am Westside's Avante Dickerson decommited over the weekend from Minnesota. Also, he is said to be making his announcement on signing day. The old one that used to have all the glory before the early signing day came about..

Interesting statistic — was the 2018 class frost’s even though he got a late start? “Will Farniok also becomes the 11th member of the 2018 recruiting class to leave before his eligibility was exhausted. Two more members of that recruiting class failed to academically qualify.”

Frost is not a good recruiter. Plus, he doesn’t have much to offer. A serious athlete could go to Michigan, NW, Iowa, or OSU. Other than Construction Management (where UNL is still National leader), what degree program does UNL have that compares to those schools?Uffda wrote: Tue Jan 26, 2021 1:11 pm Interesting statistic — was the 2018 class frost’s even though he got a late start? “Will Farniok also becomes the 11th member of the 2018 recruiting class to leave before his eligibility was exhausted. For the typical player, why move to Lincoln to play for a team that hasn’t been in the hunt during their lifetime?

Re: Nebraska Football 2021-
The real problem is that Frost ever thought McCaffrey could be a D1 QB. In a matter of months, McCaffrey goes from a close battle for the starting spot to the portal. And in between, Frost tells us he's the future of the program and can move the offense down field.
Apparently coaching stability is all the program needs though.

Re: Nebraska Football 2021-
At the end of the day, we can't afford to pay out another head coach. The longer he is the coach, the more stable the program will appear. And that's an intangible for recruiting that can actually be controlled. And one of the few things that can make Nebraska an attractive location to recruits.
I'm content with waiting another 5 years for us to be decent again.
Honestly, it's just not something that must happen right now. And I'm a freakin alum.

Well, at least we’re going to have the new $150,000,000 “Go Big” football complex starting construction later this year. That Will help with recruiting in a couple of years. We’re going to need it, but it might be too late.
