Great article by Tom Shatel on Coach Gabinet

Shatel: UNO hockey is thriving behind Mike Gabinet, a coach with ice in his veins

https://omaha.com/sports/college/uno/sh ... 673a8.html
Tom Shatel, OWH wrote:Gabinet began to sound like a speaker at a wellness seminar, and I found myself in the front row, taking notes.

“There’s an event, like COVID,” he said. “And all you can do is control your response. The bigger the challenge, the bigger the response has to be.
Tom Shatel, OWH wrote:“You’ve got to have that juice, got to have that joy,” Gabinet said. “Keep that energy high and remember why we play the game.”

In other words, when life gives you a blizzard, build a fort.

Were you over behind student section after the game, I thought I saw you talking to a couple people on my way out.

It was a great win. Sad to see the 50 PK streak end, but I would much rather have the win

Yep that was me. I was sitting where my season tickets are ((210) which is directly above the students.

Yeah bummer the streak ended but it was very impressive.

Such a great game! Loved the comeback from down 4-2. Saturday was a great night to be in. Watched NU basketball, volleyball and especially UNO hockey.

So apparently the are going back to the Pod format for the NCHC Post Season. However this time it will be in North Dakota. Too bad since UNO had a good look at actually hosting a first round this year...

Yeah this is a little bit of a bummer. I don't think UNO has hosted a first round series at Baxter. I think every year they've been at Baxter I have received a credit on the tickets because they were on the road.

The deeper we get into this season the more likely it appears UNO makes the NCAA tournament.

Thought they were done for in the late 2nd period, but they kept fighting. The game misconduct against CC turned out to be a real game changer.

I was also a bit nervous when they waived off UNO’s goal when CC’s goalies helmet came off. As a hockey coach and a goalie Dad I had no issues with it. It was just a tough break.

Thanks! Sad the home season is over and I only attended 3 games, but I guess I am lucky to get those 3. Looking forward to a long run in the post season.

Me too. Such a fun team. I missed Friday's game. I coach high school hockey and was hoping to be coaching Friday night on the Holland rink but we got knocked out on Wednesday night. By then the game was sold out. Looking forward to seeing what UNO can do in the post season plus I think as long as Saville returns, we will be even better next year when hopefully we can go through a normal home season.

My heart wants to see UNO play on, but my gut says they are done. Eliminating the Pairwise this year is going to create some shenanigans and I think the other leagues want nothing more than to stick it to the NCHC this year after so many years of the NCHC getting 4-5 teams in. I think there is a contingent in the college hockey world that wants the NCHC to only get 3 in to knock them down a peg. I also think it would be different if Denver was sitting there with a 14-10-1 record as they have the pedigree. Hard to keep them out. Easy to find excuses to keep Omaha out who is still seen as an upstart with little tradition in hockey circles.

I want to be wrong, but I just get the feeling that unless they have no one else to take, they'll find a way to stick it to Omaha and the NCHC. Also wouldn't shock me if Denver gets in over Omaha, even with a losing record based on head to head and that last game. Expect shenanigans to the highest degree this year as it's the committees one chance to really flex their muscles.

UNO has itself partly to blame. Really needed to beat Denver in the first round up in North Dakota. Denver was down several players due to Covid. It was a very winnable game, and we didn't do it.
