Westroads Mall violence rears up again
Cop got shot around 4pm at Westroads today trying to take in a shoplifter and the suspect got away. I saw about 20 cop cars racing down I-80 chasing someone about 5:30 pm out by the Walmart in Gretna. They caught him a few miles down the highway. Don't know if it was him or not but it sounds like he was the guy.

Two big news stories two Friday afternoons in a row. Mayor’s shooting was at a roughly similar time.

Hopefully the suspect "tripped" on his way into the back of the cruiser.GrandpaaSmucker wrote: Fri Mar 12, 2021 7:01 pm Cop got shot around 4pm at Westroads today trying to take in a shoplifter and the suspect got away. In the book the “House of God”, there is a scene where a resident gets attacked in the ED, the cops catch the guy and take him in. One talks to the protagonist and said that they took him in for hard interrogation and that he himself had given him several hard interrogations.bbinks wrote: Sat Mar 13, 2021 6:20 amHopefully the suspect "tripped" on his way into the back of the cruiser.GrandpaaSmucker wrote: Fri Mar 12, 2021 7:01 pm Cop got shot around 4pm at Westroads today trying to take in a shoplifter and the suspect got away. The details are getting much more clearer with this latest version of events in the World Herald- https://omaha.com/news/local/crime-and- ... -top-story
I had posted that I thought the chase started at Kum &Go in Gretna but I was wrong it was at the Pump & Pantry at the next Gretna exit. It really sounds like this guy was on some kind of suicide mission and was just begging to get locked up or killed.

Yeah nothing like encouraging a culture of police being the judge, jury, and executioners.bigredmed1 wrote: Sat Mar 13, 2021 1:41 pmIn the book the “House of God”, there is a scene where a resident gets attacked in the ED, the cops catch the guy and take him in. I'm trying really hard not to dive into that whole thing again. Let's just not fail to recognize this was a problem person. Literally stole under $500 worth of stuff and that was more than enough to him to shoot and nearly kill a person. Dude is literally a criminal. And I want to be clear, I do not want to act like if the suspect had been shot or killed by the cop, that the whole country wouldn't be in pieces yet again. It could have easily happened. People, just don't be sh!tty and this stuff won't happen.

Re: Westroads Mall violence rears up again
The OWH report said the shooter-theif had no connections to Omaha. I wonder if he was just passing through, and if his get-away BMW was stolen from somewhere. If he could afford a BMW, it surely seems like he wouldn’t need to steal some t-shirts at JCP. He’s in deep $hit shooting a cop, or anybody for that matter. But I’m happy the law enforcement exercised restraint and did not shoot him on the spot when they apprehended him, or roughed him up unnecessarily. Although they would have been justified if he hadn’t surrendered peacefully.
He said "They are some big, ugly red brick buildings"
...and then they were gone.
...and then they were gone.

Re: Westroads Mall violence rears up again
This guy sounds like he is straight out of that Woody Harrelson movie "Natural Born Killers." 21 years old riding roads in an old BMW with a pistol in his picket stealing to live. More then likely he had warrants somewhere and did not want to go back and face them. More then likely he was strung out on meth. More then likely that hoodie he was wearing was too thick and the taser barbs could not penetrate it. It sounds like the cop might of made an almost fatal error jacking around with that taser long enough for the suspect to get his gun out and shoot him. So far the details are not very transparent here.GetUrban wrote: Sun Mar 14, 2021 10:05 am The OWH report said the shooter-theif had no connections to Omaha. Re: Westroads Mall violence rears up again
This is a prime manifestation of where the real issue lies. We as a nation are fighting over whether or not to reduce police presence, and at the same time criminals are going to continue doing what they do. What happened over the last year had to have influenced the officer's decision not to immediately protect his own life. How would we feel if the suspect was white? How would we feel if the officer was black? IMO it shouldn't matter. A POS is a POS. And had the actual officer in this predicament pulled the trigger and shot or disabled or killed the suspect, the story would have totally been spun the opposite way and we would have more fuel to the police vs black people movement. Total BS.GrandpaaSmucker wrote: Sun Mar 14, 2021 7:35 pm It sounds like the cop might of made an almost fatal error jacking around with that taser long enough for the suspect to get his gun out and shoot him.
