the University buying the remaining Aksarben building from Fiserv
So, how do these two rumors combine with the current WFH situation to create activity?OmahaJaysCU wrote: Sun Apr 18, 2021 10:48 amBIG RUMOR ALERT!
Heard an announcement is coming soon on a relocation and expansion downtown. 10 story building at the base of the mall (library site is how I interpreted that, although he could have meant ConAgra site too).

Re: Fiserv
In the original renderings for the GLM redevelopment, there was an office building on the library site and the residential high rise was on the block east of the library. A MECA EVP told me about a year ago that was still the plan/hope even though the renderings no longer show the residential high rise. Things may have changed since then though and maybe now the city wants the office building to be on the block east of the library.ita wrote: Sun Apr 18, 2021 10:58 am10 story fits the plans for the office building at conagra, though 'base' of the the GLM sounds like the site they cleared for development east of the library. I know of several companies, who once we safely get to the other side of this pandemic, plan to slowly transition people back to the brick and mortar..I happen to work for one of those companies. And they’ve slowly started transitioning some personnel back into the office. I’m still working from home until further notice.. But I could see myself transitioning back into the office at some point later this year..
As it relates to Fiserv, the company is very departmentalized in what different types of work they do in Omaha. But I can see them also make the decision to eventually transition WFH employees back into the office when the time is right..
If this new downtown building rumor is true, then you can pretty much pencil in that is the case with Fiserv...

Fiserv recently told call center employees they had to be out of the building by June 30. So one of the buildings will be vacated. Not sure if it is Starwood or Pace.
The rumors about building at the old civic center were true. Employees would have bailed - me included. Hope I am retired if this rumor of building DT is true. I truly want to remain at home and never go back to the office.

Re: Fiserv
First Data has had such a history. I seem to want to say its HQ has moved like a circus, picking up the tent every once in a while and taking the show to a new city. I read statements from CEOs and others extolling the virtues of whichever new city gave them a hard on and wondered how much they paid a consultant to word the BS. I'm not saying Omaha is the end all be all of corporate HQs. I think it would be refreshing to hear a CEO just say "My daughter loves horses and Lexington is where she wants to train so we're moving the HQ here to take advantage of the short drive to the lessons. Oh, and we got a great deal on a big house that the company is including in my moving package."
Something like that

VPs can return to the office if vaccinated - voluntary. Directors can return on July 12th - voluntary. Masks must be worn in hallways, etc. Cafeteria will not open back up for a few months. Remodeling was being done when we shut down.
Fiserv has hired hundreds of workers in the past year. There is not enough office space for all. Hired from all across the US.

Between the Civic, Former UP, Library, the west end of the Mall, and Conagra, it would not surprise me if several developers are wining and dining Fiserv (and others), trying to lure them downtown.

I have heard two conflicting rumors outside this forum about the pace building. One said they were closing it, the other said they were moving out some of the people and re-purposing it, still for Fiserv

Being a former employee of First Data (now Fiserv), I’ll say this- The CEO has Remained the same since 2011 (Frank Bisangamo. Don’t know if I’ve got Frankie’s last name spelled 100% correctly, but it’s close lol)..And the corporate leadership has always maintained that Metropolitan Omaha has been and always will be one of the most important places the company performs it’s various business.. Which makes sense. I don’t see Omaha losing its Fiserv employee presence any time soon..and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it added to frankly..Brad wrote: Thu Jun 24, 2021 1:50 pmNothing other than the one mentioned on here about the civic site.Doctor Fate wrote: Thu Jun 24, 2021 1:07 pmBrad, have you heard any rumors about possible company relocations downtown? That said, culturally, I just don’t see Fiserv packing a significant amount of their employees into one building location and would be even more surprised if that location was downtown.. They’ve always been a company that spread out it’s various business functions across several locations within the Omaha area..
I wouldn’t say a Fiserv move into downtown Omaha would never happen..but I’d be highly surprised if it did…

Brad- they did move employees out of pace. They will permanently WFH. Heard they are making room to move employees into that building from Starwood? But I am a bit skeptical of that. Time will tell. Pace is a very dirty building. When they were renovating 6855 we were moved out there. It’s a weird layout. Could not wait to get home every day to shower!

Looking back at my First Data years..
I worked at the PACE building for about 18 months before my department finally moved to 6855 in 2011. Compared to Pace, 6855 was like Shangri-La..
The Pace building was a depressing place to conduct business…

Time will tell that’s for sure! Just don’t see the logic of selling Starwood and moving operations to Pace. Would have to do lots of renovations prior to the move.

There is a SUV with a trailer in the parking lot (An almost empty parking lot) picking up the two red picnic tables as I type this. There are also two refrigerators on the trailer, but I didn't see if they came from inside the building or if they were already on the trailer when it arrived. Doesn't seem like a moving company, rather a couple people with a trailer on the back of their Tahoe.

A bit off topic but I miss Pace. Not the building but Pace Membership Warehouse. In its time it was novel and you actually did save money. The products were mostly of good quality and on Saturday you could make a meal on the freebies. Costco and Sam's Club are ok and serve a purpose, and where I live I average a 40 cent per gallon savings at either. However, I do miss Pace.

My parents shopped at Pace. Once a month trip. Never been to Costco and Sam's Club is just a super-sized Walmart. But I loved Pace. When I was a kid, my folks shopped at Grocery Supply near 108th & L. When I was 6, I stole a handful of mini astrology books off the candy rack.Bob from Omaha wrote: Mon Jul 19, 2021 1:56 pm A bit off topic but I miss Pace. The fun part of Grocery Supply when I was a kid was using the wax pencil/crayon to mark down the prices on the items. Never occurred to me that I could just make up the price... maybe that's why they went out of business...

As to Fiserv numbers.. there were about 75 of us prior to merger.Spice Johnson wrote: Fri Jul 30, 2021 11:38 pm How many employees did First Data and Fiserve have in Omaha separately before the acquisition? And how many do they have now?
In other news, it's still very fluid and management is showing flexibility, but last date I got was now Sept. 20 for being in office, vaccination required.. masks away from desks. Some management have already been there.
My team has been so broken up, there aren't many people to even collaborate with in Omaha.
Most of the new hires have been in Chicago.
Omaha is safe for the foreseeable future. The merger actually has heavily favored First Data and Omaha is still where most of the subject matter experts are.
That said, I'd be shocked to see consolidation to a new building downtown. Omaha's employees are older and we don't want to commute downtown.
