I 100% agree that hiring some assts is a must right now, but it kinda sucks to hear all the doom and gloom scenarios for the organization. They did just reach the Sweet 16 for the first time ever and as you mentioned, almost everyone expected all the starters to leave...Bishop was a surprise to leave, but we knew the team would be "starting over". I think in the long run they will be fine, it may take a few years but they will be fine.
If Mason Miller decides to sign, and Rati and Kancleris can come back strong from their injuries (remember, I think both of them were top 100 recruits), I think they'll have a somewhat rough next year but be fine the following.
I think a lot of the angst stems from the possible outcomes of McDermott's comments on future recruiting and the level of uncertainty that this added on top of the complete overhaul they'll need to do over the next few years..add that to needing 2 coaches, and it adds up to some angst. We've done the overhaul before, after Doug left, and it took a few years but the results were good. I'm hopeful for a similar outcome this time around. It all starts with getting coaches though, that's the first step.
That is great news to hear. Sounds like he is firmly committed. There is still going to be a nice core group of young players at CU. If they can stay together for 2-3 years, we may have another run at a Sweet 16.
Miller, Rati, Nembhard, Christofilis, and Kalk. Really like those starting 5.

Honestly, me too. Adding in Shereef into the mix as well.
Would like to see a couple of transfers to add in depth, but I really think once this group gels, it's going to be damn good. I also am chomping at the bit for them to make some coaching hires, the rumors I have seen from a couple of sources are interesting (but, like all rumors, are probably dubious at best).

Agreed.. Definitely need more depth in the rotation. Mac had the luxury last season of going 8, sometimes 9 deep in the rotation..
With an entire new bunch, I expect the 2021/22 season to be a transition year..maybe an NIT bid. I don’t have any delusions of a 20+ win NCAA season next year..but this new group has the chance to become that by the 2022/23 season if this core stays together..
And another definite- is to get some quality assistant coaches hired ASAP...
Wow, Tristan Enunara, who Creighton recruited heavily 2-3 years and went to Kansas, entered the transfer portal and just choose 2-22 Iowa St who fired their coach over Creighton. That is shocking, wonder what he sees in Iowa St.

Or what he sees/doesn't see in Creighton.
There is the lingering issue of certain things that were said by Creighton's coach. I think his words are more serious than most people think in our town and recruiting of Black players or players of color is going to be extremely difficult for this coaching staff. Additionally, while players or high school commits who have left the team this year either to go pro or transfer didn't say it was because of the Coach, to have that many guys leave at once looks bad, particularly when they aren't one and done freshmen. I could be wrong and I am making assumptions about how potential recruits might see our team, but that could be a reason.

All but one of the players who left were seniors, and the other who left cited specifically that he left because he was playing out of position in his eyes.
The comment made by McDermott do have an impact on recruits, I'm sure for a while longer, but the players leaving so far were for other reasons.
There are reported over 1500 basketball players in the Transfer portal - hopefully Creighton should be able to pick up a couple
There are over 1,500 players in the college basketball transfer portal this year, more than twice the number of players last season. The overwhelming number of players transferring comes from a decision from the NCAA stating that student-athletes can now transfer and not have to sit out a year. Due to COVID-19, seniors were also granted an additional year of eligibility, making the transfer portal much more competitive.
Marcus Zegarowski taken 49th by the Brooklyn Nets. Good situation for him from the learning opportunities side, play with Irving/Harden/Durant, learn from Steve Nash and Jaqcue Vaughn. But he's not going to find a lot of minutes early (Harden/Irving not to mention Dinwiddie and Shamet ahead on the depth chart), and I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up being trade bait at the deadline next year.

Dinwiddie and Shamet are being shopped around, from what I read. Agreed though, good fit for Marcus. I am glad he got picked up.
I have a hard time believing that both would get sent out before next year's deadline, but the moves of NBA GMs often mystify me (see: Westbrook instead of Hield for LeBron and AD?).
Either way, Zegarowski could hardly have had a better spot, IMO, thinking about it more, except maybe Atlanta or Memphis. Good coaches to learn from, probably time to develop in the first year. I doubt he is going to have a Jokic-like career curve, but I think he's in a better spot than Khyri Thomas was a few years ago when Detroit drafted a near comp player and seemed to want them to compete by themselves instead of picking and investing in one.
