I have a Sunday paper and 7 day on line. For your online, I assume all the ads are if you view in so it looks like the paper? I use the tradition Omaha.com website version and don't have an issue with a bunch of ads.

Probably not Saturday/Sunday, but I certainly could see a Wednesday/Sunday rotation. While Hy-Vee is experimenting again with ditching the grocery ads, I still believe that remains a lucrative opportunity.

Probably not Saturday/Sunday, but I certainly could see a Wednesday/Sunday rotation. While Hy-Vee is experimenting again with ditching the grocery ads, I still believe that remains a lucrative opportunity.

I would say it’s only been about 3 or 4 years ago that we canceled our daily subscription, now I just get Sunday only. I’ll read the entire Sunday paper in about 10-15 minutes. It’s hard to believe how dominant newspapers were 15-20 years ago. Times changed.
For decades I was a daily reader of the OW-H. I wouldn’t have thought of starting my day without reading it. I couldn’t believe how it had shrunk so fast (the pages are also noticeably smaller than they were 15 years ago).
Well, last Sunday the paper was down to just 60 pages! And the advertising inserts have dwindled to just one or two stores, versus ten or so just a year or two ago.

the last bill they sent me was for almost $200.00

One thing that may have impacted the rates I got was I had a history of paying one time a year at the annual rate.

I just received a letter yesterday stating that they are going to raise my monthly rate from $9.12 to $12.57. That is a 37% increase for something that is getting worse as time goes on. I receive the Sunday print and everyday online version. The Sunday paper isn't much thicker than most daily papers used to be. Its a joke. The articles seem to be written by 5th graders with improper punctuation and spelling errors. I just don't know how much longer I want to subscribe if they are going to lower the quality and quantity of their content, yet ask for steep increases in price all the time.

The Tampa Bay Times, that I subscribe to just the Sunday edition, had gone to just a Wed and Sunday editions last year as Covid hit. Then They decided to give Sunday subscribers the wed edition too. They just made it official there will only be Wed and Sunday editions from now on.

If you're interested in the print edition, call Scott Melton 402.618.0922. I cancelled when mine jumped to $82/mo. Scott is their customer retention specialist and gave me two years for $16/mo.

I'm old and there are probably others who could tell the tale better. E0maha.com started around the time that the Omaha Chamber board went away. Jeff (Stargazer) made Eomaha.com. My recollection is that he had some issues with hackers(?) & wanted out. Thus, Eomahaforums.com.
As I said I may not have all the facts straight. I don't think Eomaha.com left because of the owh

FWIW, my parents just got a rate increase to over $70 a month (!!!) for the 7-day newspaper. They are really taking it to the old retired people who aren't going to take the electronic edition.

How much of that is rigged into the delivery portion of the rate vs what the "paper boy" actually makes.. The delivery fee you pay for your pizza doesn't go to the driver.
Out of curiosity, I went to the OWH site to see what the subscription offers were. The first thing I see is this offer. Another well manages process by the OWH.
Note today is May 16th The offer that is the first I see says the offer ends May 9th!

Funny I thought it was hers at first, so I checked also but it wasn't hers. Last I saw for her was about a month ago. Lets hope that she didn't because she was reliable on reporting on new development.
For reasons passing understanding I was allowed to open the "e-edition" (sounds like something that was cool in the early 90s) of todays owh. My god. What a tiny paper with zero news. Ads & filler.
I'd say something about someone from the owh monitoring this forum but I seriously doubt they even bother anymore. What a sad excuse for a business.
Give it up, sell the printing plant and the rest of the assets & stick a fork in it. The patient is dead & doesn't even know it.
And yes, the Detroit papers, and yes there are still two, are just as bad.
Regarding the headline in today's paper about the passing of ZZ Top's Dusty Hill, I've sent a message to the OWH asking if they could print a correction, as they left out one of the following words: first, second, or third.

We all rather enjoy kicking the OWH. People have been doing that for decades, if not generations. But who else is watching over our elected leaders? Who else attends weekly city council and county board meetings, as well as school board meetings? Who is in Lincoln to sit in the gallery and watch the activities of the Unicameral, as well as the various constitutional officers? It’s not the local TV channels. And it isn’t anyone else that I can think of. Who else covers the courts in any sort of depth?
Democracy dies when no one plays the role of watchdog of the public. With the gobbling up of most major city newspapers by a handful of corporations, who’s mantra seems to universally be “cut costs! Lay off seasoned journalists!” I do worry about the direction of our society. If the public remains ignorant about their government we all become sheep.
That is why I still subscribe to the OWH.
I subscribed to the online edition this past week. Just wanted to avoid the ad block and support local journalism. $52/year isn't bad at all to do that
