MyPillow? You've got to be kidding me...

Surprisingly, as pro Republican as the Ricketts are, I recall when Trump was originally trying to earn the nomination the Ricketts family was doing everything they could to prevent that from happening. I guess there's no better way to say you're over it than to bring in the key clown to town from that circus. :D

LOL! Makes more sense now... but I'll admit, I am disappointed that means we won't see crazy MyPillow Guy around for a grand opening celebration.

Actually, people will need a MyPillow more than ever before, trying to get a good nights sleep while they’re laying in bed worrying about inflation, rising taxes, rising crime, racial tensions, war in the Middle East, and hundreds of thousands of illegals just walking into the United States with a clown in the White House who has no desire to stop them. Nope, MyPillow won’t be going out of business anytime soon.

It's the same old fear mongering bs we've heard for decades. At this point I can't take anything seriously from people who whine about that stuff. It's pure delusion.

When I put my salesman hat on it makes little difference to me if they are a Democrat or a Republican. Now give me a sales prospect that believes in the "Pillow Guy" and the sales shark in me sees blood in the water. If they are crazy enough to buy that load the "Pillow Guy" is selling them they are crazy enough to buy anything. It works the same way with those $300 Amish Fireplace buyers where if they are dumb enough to buy that line of B.S, they are dumb enough to buy anything. Enough of this sales talk though we were talking about Westroads here!

I don’t understand why companies trying to create a strong brand would isolate an entire segment of the population that could be potential customers by inserting politics into their business. It’s one thing to advocate for a groups rights, like supporting Black Lives Matter or even religious rights (even if I disagree with that), and completely different to outright advertise for politicians and political parties. It just seems like a terrible business decision to me

I totally agree. Anyone in business who is stupid enough to announce their politics with a bullhorn runs the risk of losing it all, or at least a part of their market.

According to the post in rumors, Dillards has applied for a building permit at the old Younkers site.

I agree..

When someone posted this happenstance in the Rumors Forum yesterday, I felt I already knew this was in the works for several months/that we had discussed it before here..and thought it was old news…

I had a feeling this would happen ever since Younker's left Westroads and I could see the writing on the wall at Oakview. Just seemed like a no-brainer to me, and I'm sure lots of others here. Then we started hearing about it. Though not yet confirmed, like I said, it seemed like a foregone conclusion.

What I believe is going to eventually happen, now that we have slumlord, 5 and dime ownership at Oakview Mall- is Dillard’s will move their Omaha flagship store to Westroads..and since they still own their Oakview parcel, they’ll run their Dillard’s discount store at Oakview for awhile (maybe 1-2 years or so)- then get out of Oakview Mall completely..

If/When that happens- we’ll have Southroads II in west Omaha. And I pray for the surrounding Mousetrap…

It’s really a shame what happened to Oakview. It was a decent mall at one time, but not anymore. I’m thinking it will probably be demolished at some point.

Oakview Mall demolished? Doubtful (but anything could happen I guess)..

Oakview Mall about to fall into the abyss if Dillard’s leaves? Yes (this is a certainty)…

Has Oakview even had one major remodel? It would need a good amount of investment to make it what it was. GGP dropped the ball on this place over a decade ago. Good luck to the new ownership.

No! I’ve worked at both Oakview and Westroads. Westroads was the owners favorite always getting the improvements.

I just heard yesterday at work that Westroads is getting a new manager. The old manager had been there forever and was let go.

Anyone know what's going on with the Ricketts property? Buildings have been razed for a while and the 'mixed-use development' sign is still up. It's basically just serving as an ad site for Jim Pillen in the gubernatorial race.

Please no. Haha. With all the volatility in the economy, it makes sense that nothing has happened here. I just hate to see another large swath of land in an otherwise vibrant area, demoed for redevelopment but remain unimproved in Omaha (I am looking at you, old UP site, Civic site, and Turner Park East).

JC Penney has been remodeling their Westroads store. More of a refresh than major remodel.

What I meant was JCPenney's still being there after all these years. They were there when Westroads first opened in 1968 and they're still there today.

I think Von Maur has been the only store of their building. I know not the entire life of the mall, but built for and still occupied by Von Maur, which looks like since the late 90's. What I like about Westroads is it has always evolved. I can't go back in my memory bank and think of many stores that have been in the same spot for as far back as I can remember. And of course, I haven't browsed the mall in forever, so I don't know. It would be fun to discuss which stores have been there the longest and still are, and even ones that were there a long time even if they aren't there anymore.

Well, like I said, JCPenney's is still there. There used to be a Montgomery Ward. Younker's was in a different location in the mall. The old movie theater had only 8 theaters. There wasn't a food court until 1991. But then it closed in 2015 for the new food hall. That's all I've got.

Well I'll be. Any idea when it became Von Maur?

All my earliest memories from the mall are from late 90's early 2000's. I never really went to the Von Maur side. As a kid, I mostly went for Tilt, a pretzel and Suncoast. Speaking of the pretzels, what was the place before Auntie Ann's?

A couple more I can think of that have been in the same spot as long as I can remember are Suncoast, Yankee Candle, and Old Navy.

There were two movie theaters, across the aisle from each other. Six on the west side, two on the east. One firm bought the other, and they remodeled that corner of the mall to make it an ocho. This is where the playground, the sporting goods jernt and Sc00ters wound up. I haven't been in the mall in over ten years, so YMMV.

The Jones Store was where the Ward's store was (later Younkers took it over). The Von Maur building was specifically built for them.
