You can have em. 10+ degrees warmer than average is no bueno when the average high is 82 or 83. I honestly dont know how anyone could find anything redeeming about 90+ degrees, but to each their own. It wont even get cool enough at night to open the windows for relief for the foreseeable future. We all know full well I am a cool weather person and I despise hot and dry. You disagree wholeheartedly and that is all good. I just hope it doesnt last long.

Lol..

Well, it’s only June 5th. So you’d better get used to SUMMER like upper 80’s to 90’s temps for highs for well into possibly mid September..

For what you’re looking for, maybe Antartica would be a good place for you to hang a shingle (j/k).. I dunno. But to expect June/July/August into September high temperatures to be “cool and comfortable” in the central plains is not a realistic expectation..

You’ll get plenty of the cool to frigid/cold weather you crave from late November into March (yes, I remember -23 degrees in mid February this year and can’t imagine how anyone could find anything redeeming about that either)..so, like me, you must take the good with the bad if you choose to live in these neck of the woods..it’s a trade off..

I happen to enjoy warmer summer into fall temps, you enjoy late fall and winter cool to cold temps..

Like you said- To each their own...

No I don't expect cool at all, but close to normal would be tolerable. Normal high right now is 82 and, believe it or not, only increases to 88 by mid-July, and then starts to decrease into fall. I think it would be wonderful if the high never got above 88. Not an expectation at all, just a day dream. I can't wait for one of those years where the climate prediction for summer comes out and it doesn't say "above normal". A normal summer outlook seems to be more of a fantasy every year now. One possible benefit I thought of is you can cook without electricity or fire.

In any case, it felt good to finally get out and wash/wax my car for the first time since late April..

I remember when we were kids, maybe 9 or 10 years old, we were going through a usual Summer hot streak in Omaha and the temps were forecast to be in the upper 90’s to around 100 for the day. My friends and I heard the weather person on the TV say at those temps, “you could crack an egg on the sidewalk and fry it”.. So, of course, we tried it and it failed. Perhaps we should have used some cooking oil, LOL :;): ...

You quite literally could put a frying pan on hot pavement out in direct sun and cook an egg over an unknown period of time. I've heard of people using solar ovens which reflect sunlight into a concentrated area to even roast chicken, etc. Seems hot and clear enough for that today.

I agree, once the sun disappeared, it became tolerable. Nice 14 degree drop from earlier. Still 80 at 11 is quite warm.

Current forecast is 90 today, 92, 93, 95, 96, 93, 93 :barf:

At least the clouds today have been a nice surprise.

Oh and our rain chance this week really evaporated into thin air. Wouldn't be surprised if it disappears totally.

Looks like a pretty good probability of thunderstorms on Friday morning just after the sun comes up. We are currently at a 60% chance, and are currently predicted to get about a third of an inch of rain. We are also in the bullseye for a marginal risk of Severe weather. Pretty meh, but there is a chance. If the risk ends up going up, we would most likely be in it.

The one I was talking about is for tomorrow, but that is pretty impressive how it changed. Sounds more like it'll be a pretty nasty system that moves across Nebraska. Last night Bill Randby made it sound like the worse storms would skirt south of Omaha. NWS bumped the rain to half an inch. Unfortunate timing on this, though. I will most likely be asleep, and most people will be working and not able to enjoy it.

When I made my post yesterday, I was talking about the day 3 (friday), which is now the day 2. As of yesterday, the risk for Thursday wasn't anywhere near us, but now includes us. The day 1 is now for the storm that will come through tomorrow at about 7 or 8 am. The day 2 which is for tomorrow is presumably for anything that happens after that line moves through. Kinda weird, but early morning is tricky for them. Gotta get the warning out.

they added a moderate risk area in the Dakotas and moved the general risk area ever so slightly to the NW. I am pretty sure we are not even in the marginal area now.

I just find it fascinating that we’re about the finish up on June 10th in Omaha, and we have yet to really see a severe weather watch or warning..

Growing up in this area in the 70’s/80’s/90’s and even the first decade of the 2000’s, this would pretty much never happen.. Now I know we still have most of June left, so Mother Nature could make me eat my words..but man, this is unusual (the past 4 years 2017-present). Fascinatingly so...

And that's exactly what it's been. Its like someone flipped a switch after June of 2017. Really strange. I don't remember ever going any one season growing up without some sort of severe event that was enough to trigger the sirens, let alone 4 or 5 years. I think you said it earlier that somethings gotta give, and we have to be due for something to break. If we make it through this month without something, our likelihood of making it to the 5 year mark becomes much higher.

Tomorrow morning's storm has the potential to qualify. Definitely should if we're talking about places north and west of here. But for Omaha, it looks like it will be another miss.

The 1991-2020 climate normals are out.

From March to November, the average highs are above 50 and average lows are above 30

From April to October, the average highs are above 65 and average lows above 42

From February to December, the average saw a bump to 37 degree highs or higher and 19 degree lows

January also saw a bump, but mostly in the lows.

... nerd information, okay im out

Right.. That’s what I think- we’re due. Something’s gotta give. It’s a matter of when..

I’m hearing there’s a pretty decent chance of “strong” (not severe) thunderstorms for the Omaha metro by early tomorrow morning. We’ll see. One thing is also for sure- I hope we see a decent amount of rain from that event because moisture looks like a scarcity for the next 7 days after Friday...

The line finally got going in South Dakota in the last hour or so. Looks like it might be in the 8a-9a hour now.

I won't be expecting anything amazing. Some decent thunder I bet, about a half inch of rain and an initial wind gust when it moves through. And again, I bet I'll just sleep through it, so I hope I don't miss much.

I was actually quite impressed with that. Had to have been just short of severe wind gusts, lots of rain, a little weak on the thunder, and I had a tiny bit of pea size hail. Overall not bad, 6/10.

My app says I got 0.6" at my house too.

Looks like the NWS will report .72" unless it rains more.

My rain gauge said .59". Seemed low but I guess that's not far off.

Things are not looking good. We will make it to the halfway point in June with .75" of our new reduced normal of 4.44". I have no doubt we will be on the drought map soon, even though IMO we've been there. We've been short since March.

Whatever surplus we built in January-March is diminishing quickly. Plus that moisture we got early in the year isn't doing us any good now, in the time we most need it. I hate this |expletive|.

If we make it to the end of the month with little to no rain, we will basically be back to square one where we left off last year. It was over a 14" deficit.

This is insane. It is so hot the next two days that when a "cold" front moves through tomorrow night, that only takes us back down to 10 degrees above normal where we still sit for a few more days. Then finally on Monday we get a real cool down. As of right now, Monday is predicted to be below normal. After tomorrow's high of over 100, Monday at 79 will feel downright chilly.

I was surprised to see those flashes of lightning out west. I went to bed pretty early for me last night so I didn't see much of anything if there was even anything to speak of.

Looks like there is a fair amount of rain chances in the upcoming week, but unfortunately they look like they're expected to produce very little rain.
