Farnam Hill Lofts -Drummond Motor Company - 26th and Farnam

Post by iamjacobm »

The team behind Blackstone is jumping to the east side of MTC to redevelop the historic building into 20 apartments with commercial space.

This is just west of All Makes.

Nice!! Very charming.
I can get pushed out because I'm "too much" for some. Then, an observer of me comes suddenly swooping in to "fill my shoes." People are always more accepting of the new one, because their feathers aren't truly ruffled by them. (Yawn) I can count on it every time.

Loft-style apartments set to drive onto historic 'Auto Row' along Farnam Street

Cindy Gonzalez / World-Herald staff writer wrote:GreenSlate and Clarity development companies say their $7.6 million project would replace what most recently had been a printing press operation with trendy housing, retail and office space that would attract more activity and pedestrians to the area.

It would fuel a slow momentum that area merchants and residents have been trying to stoke in long-neglected pockets between downtown and midtown. Earlier this year, a neighborhood association seeking to bring more attention and business to the area bounded by Dodge, Leavenworth, 20th and 28th Streets re-branded the turf as the Quarters.

I really hope Greenslate and Clarity are able to push the city to turn this whole stretch of Farnam back to two way.

Eventually we could have Farnam be a to way street from 8th to Happy Hollow. With busting activity at pedestrian scale.

Is agree wholeheartedly. One lane in each direction with a lane dedicated solely to rail rather than an in traffic streetcar?

I heard they also bought the parking lot caddy corner from this building. Hopefully that'll get cleaned up a bit, too.

I got to send out this press release this morning.

Historic Midtown building will get new life as unique office concept
OMAHA, NE - Midtown Omaha will soon be home to a new workspace concept. Populus, a flexible and inspiring workspace on Farnam Street at 26th Avenue, is now accepting reservations. The 9,000 sq. ft. space is just a few blocks from the Blackstone District, Midtown Crossing, and Downtown Omaha. Populus is expected to open in the Spring of 2019.

Micah Yost, the Founder and President of local creative agency Method Mark, has partnered with GreenSlate and Clarity Development, the companies behind the Blackstone District, to launch Populus.

“The future of work is more flexible and inspired office solutions,” said Yost. “Small business owners and entrepreneurs need a product that is easier to engage than traditional long term leases. Many corporate employees need a place to work outside the office that provides more than a coffee shop or home office might. Populus is the solution. I believe we are building the future of work right here in Omaha.”

Populus will offer private offices, dedicated desks, and open coworking options. Amenities such as fast internet, local coffee, weekly happy hours, furniture, and conference room space are all included. Short-term leases and month-to-month subscriptions allow for ultimate flexibility.

Populus will open in the old Firestone Tire and Rubber building located along Omaha’s Autombile Row, a collection of automotive-related buildings constructed in the late 1910’s. “I’m thrilled to be a part of bringing new life to this historic Omaha area,” Yost noted. The Barnhart Press printing company relocated to the spot in 1939. The building, located at 2566 Farnam Street, was designed by Omaha architect John Latenser & Sons. Yost joins GreenSlate and Clarity Development in broader efforts to revitalize this section of Farnam Street. The project will include a complete historic renovation of the building.

Private offices, desks, or coworking spots can be reserved now at populus.co. Exclusive benefits through a Founders Club are available for those who pre-lease. Learn more at populus.co or e-mail [email protected].

About Populus
Populus is flexible and inspired workspace. Founded by local entrepreneur and speaker Micah Yost, Populus offers private offices, dedicated desks, and open coworking options. Opening in Midtown Omaha Spring 2019. Find out more at populus.co.

I just noticed that Barnhart moved to 11616 I and is available along with the Drummond in the Fall of 2019. I was talking with a Barnhart the other day and he seemed to think All Makes will also be moving out of Farnam Hills area also.

I get to stare at these buildings every day. It will be fun to watch them develop over the coming months. But it also makes me wonder if my building had been approached for rehab.

Brain drain may be a concern for Nebraskans, but Populus Coworking has seen an influx of exciting companies from outside of the state.

Launched officially in August of 2019, Populus is a 9,500 SF shared office space at 26th and Farnam streets. The coworking space provides a home for small businesses, startups, and remote workers. It currently has about 70 members.

In February, VidaNyx moved its headquarters to Populus from Seattle. Invest Nebraska and NelNet Inc led a record series A of $5M to move operations to Omaha, NE, and bring on CEO Sara Boyd, previously CEO of the Omaha Community Foundation. VidaNyx is making several full time hires here in Omaha to fill out its local team.

They're tearing up the parking lot at 2601 Farnam -- across the street from Farnam Hill Lofts. This lot is owned by BP2601 LLC.

One of the workers stopped by our office and said we needed to move our cars from the lot -- we have our own private lot, so none of the cars belonged to us. We asked what was going on, we were told a "building is going in there". No details beyond that.

Anyone knows what's going on there?

Well Clarity Development is the mailing address for the property LLC. Don't recall seeing something on previous planning board docs and not on the July agenda (at first glance), so 🤷

I didn't see anything either. I also don't see a building permit.

Progress so far.

Now we've been told they're redoing the parking lot.

That'd be disappointing.

The stained glass windows were removed for repair late this past winter. They're supposed to have been back this month.
