That’s still one of the more impressive stadiums in college football when it’s filled with 80,000 fans. To bad they can’t figure out how to win more.

Article in the paper today has Athletic director Moos predicting that Nebraska could win 8 or 9 games this year. https://omaha.com/sports/huskers/footba ... op-story-1

I actually do not believe for a second that Bullwinkle believes that we can win 8 or 9 games. Hes just a salesman can't people see that? Were doomed and he knows it and I know it and Frost knows it and the whole country knows it big time. Were doomed and there ain't no getting around it. We kept Frost and crew around for another year and now we got to pay for it. Worst of it all is we got no quarterback or running back.

The idea that they win 8-9 games this fall is just not happening. He has to blow sunshine to keep the STHs from dumping them. Got to think that the market cachet of Husker tickets is no where close to what they were 10 years ago even.

Interesting talk recently claiming what we just saw with Bill Moos was no retirement. They are saying that Nebraska paid Moos to go away now to set the stage for Scott Frost to be fired at the end of the season. I agree with the experts 100%, you would have to be blind not to see the writing on the wall.

This certainly does change the feel. Before, I felt he'd be secure with just a mere bowl appearance this season, and would be safe for as long as there is improvement in each successive season. Now I feel if he even has so much as a rough start, he could be out the door before the season is even over. Definitely coaching for his job now.

If so, there are a lot of delusional people in Lincoln. Some pretend that by throwing money at a problem, the CA/FL/TX pipeline will magically open again and we can party like it's 1967-1999...

Face it: 1. No one wants to come to Lincoln. 2. Nebr. HS football is a joke. 3. Those local athletes who do get Div I interest go elsewhere. When you have a Metro FB stud that picks freaking Missouri, you have a problem.

The big delusion was when we decided to bring Frost here in the first place. We were warned by the experts that Frost was not experienced enough but we would not listen. Now we have learned our lesson and we must go back and do what the experts told us which is hire someone who knows what they are doing.

We can not blame this on Scott Frost. We brought this on ourselves and this disaster is self made. Keeping Frost around is only allowing the problem to fester. No recruit with half a brain is going to come here until Frost is gone.

HS football is done and soccer is not too far behind.

Lots of families that not only have moms that don’t want their sons playing, but a lot of kids who are in families where it simply isn’t on the list.

Not just Omaha, but around the state. There are towns where more boys are out for Cross Country than FB.

The walk-on program died off and was replaced by the “go to school in the Dakotas on scholarship instead.

Have to say as an aside, if I had a daughter in HS, soccer would not be on her list. Way too many kids go from pre-engineering to living with mom and dad because they have to have post-head injury supervision going forward.

I'd be curious on the numbers on this. I wonder how many towns actually do have more kids on cross country than football. I'd have to assume those are 6 and 8 man football teams.

I coach high school hockey and I can tell you our numbers have been on a steady growth (even higher for girls).

It's not cheap but doesn't have to be as bad as you'd think. My son and many others played with a lot of used equipment through the years. Every year before the season (and this has happened for decades) they have the hockey swap, where you can sell the gear your kid outgrew. Plus there's play it again.

For those that need help with the registration fee, you can apply for for reduced fees. Suddenly it's not much different than other sports....

It does if you travel. My son didn't start the traveling part until he'd been playing for 7 years (unless you count Lincoln and Fremont) . Most never do travel. You can also do a hybrid like Select (which travels some but not much, and it's usually places like KC and Des Moines).

For the past month Nebraska was a 9 1/2 point favorite over Illinois on August 28th. Last week Nebraska was lowered to an 8 point favorite. I think Moos getting fired er I mean retiring along with the bad publicity that went along with it caused the point spread to drop a point and a half. I would be surprised if Nebraska is not down to just a 5 or 6 point favorite by game time.

It's a legit concern, as Frost no longer has his protector around. Questions surrounding the future are never good for a team's morale.

Will they collapse and go 2-10, or will they show the supposed progress on the field? The AD change will have no affect on the product on the field, but has a huge affect on Frost's job security. Ever since the AD change, I feel Frost must go 7-6 (with a mediocre bowl win) to remain head coach. I previously thought 6-7 with a bowloss would have been good enough. I mean we're going on what like 5 years of sub .500. If the team is sub .500, Frost is out and we would be in for many more years of not even mediocrity, but straight stank. Like Maryland type stuff every year.

What they need from the fans is an empty stadium. They need to get that there are a lot of alternatives in the fall and crappy football is not going to cut it.

Absolutely Illinois should be the favorite. The new coach of Illinois used to be the coach at Wisconsin where he put 70 point beat downs on Nebraska. I don't see how Nebraska wins this one!

The scammers, coaches and the writers who shill for them apparently have come up with what they deem to be a reasonable way to prevent your plan from working. Instead of trying to make the program better which would require them to be fired from their jobs they have come up with a better path. A better path for themselves at least. In today's paper sports reporter Sammy the shill McKewon writes

"The challenge will come in accepting the end of the streak without blaming someone. Should it end this year or next, Scott Frost inevitably takes some national heat for it. The issue is bigger than him — The seat width! No seat backs! Sardine experience! — but he’ll get tagged with it. Even if he wins."

Isn't that rich  They are having problems selling tickets now and it is not Frost's fault. What a total crock of B.S. Goodness gracious don't blame Scotty!

These people are killing the program once and for all did I say that yet?

The fans put up with crappy seats when tickets were for games where NU was competitive. The other elements had also existed, traffic, parking, food, etc. No one chucked their tix before.

The team is not worth the cost of the tix and that is what is the truth. If you had Season tix and couldn’t get to a game in 1980 or 1990, would you have had any trouble finding someone to buy them off you? If you were donating a pair of tix to a charity fundraiser, you could see them sold for a tidy profit for the charity. Is that still the case today? Nope. Have the seats changed? Nope. Has the traffic worsened? Nope. Has the quality of the team changed? Yep.

Rumors are that Texas and Oklahoma are looking to jump to the SEC conference. You don't need a crystal ball to see Nebraska wanting to bail out of a highly competitive Big10 to a new watered down version of the Big 12.

Not only that, but if Texas and Oklahoma were to jump, there might not be a Big 12 to go back to, let alone any sort of attractive situation otherwise. I feel like if that conference lost its two most important remaining members, there might be no reason for any of the other schools to remain, causing them to find other conferences and the Big 12 to dissolve. Would be an interesting landscape indeed. Might actually pave the way for there being four 16 or 18 team conferences with an actual playoff structure. Win and you're in type stuff, no more cupcake games, no more strength of schedule, all games are equally important, no more at large bids or playoff selection committees. Conference winners get the byes, runners up play third place teams cross-conference. Maybe ACC and SEC for one bracket and BIG 10 and PAC (insert quantity) for the other, or it could revolve every year. Very interesting that would be.

And to add-on to that, I really liked the championship week the Big 10 did last year where every team played to determine their finish. That alone could create a very interesting situation where perhaps the loser of the 1v1 would play the winner of 2v2 the following week to determine 2nd place, that way a loser wouldn't be getting the 2nd seed. Just random thoughts. I just really don't like the way it currently is... Too subjective.

I remember that one year Alabama got into the playoff when they didn't even win their division, and didn't have to play on championship weekend, so they basically got a bye. Having everybody play would prevent that situation. That was BS.

If you are a Nebraska coach and athletic administration who has no clue how to put a team on the field that can compete with most Big10 teams.......then a Big 12 that has been defanged of it's 2 best teams might look like a place where you could go and not get beat up so often.

Maybe that would be true, but if that were the case, I doubt the Big 12 would get any respect in voting. They might even be downgraded to group of 5 level where nobody gets any respect in voting. Which is why I wouldn't think Nebraska would do it, as well as the teams that would be left after Texas and Oklahoma left would all be looking at each other and struggling to see what would be attractive about continuing playing each other vs all bailing and finding new conferences. I actually would like to see it happen.

Nebraska should stay in the Big10. It’s probably not the best fit for us recruiting wise, but the money and stability is unrivaled. Texas and Oklahoma could leave the Big 12 whenever they want and be warmly welcomed into another conference , that was always the problem with the conference.

Did you see that I had posted that same thought up above? Good to know I'm not the only one that thinks it could/should happen. I think 4 -16 or 18 team conferences would pave the way to a real playoff and would be very, very good for college football.

Especially if that forced the remaining conferences to be pan-sport conferences and not just one sport like the “Basketball Conferences”. Nothing worse than March Madness where the team that wins the Big 10 has the same weight as the team that wins the “we have matching shoes athletic conference”. Would really make the regular season upsets important. Of course, you could see situations like in the BIG where a ruling has to happen, and if made fairly, it benefits a minor team (say Indiana) but not Ohio State. This always means that the decisions are not made fairly. We used to see that in the CCHA when bad calls got judged after the game and even obvious cheating would not get called against Michigan.

I think it would have to be at least 18 per conference. As it currently stands, there are 64 teams in the power 5, plus Notre Dame, and BYU, which I'm sure both would join a conference. That would leave 6 spots for the usual pretty good group of 5 programs to join a power 5 conference. Or if there's even more interest in joining the Power 4, maybe make them 20, or have 8 - 10 team conferences if that gets too complicated.

That would be a good way to keep the regular season interesting. Lose a couple of unexpected close ones and suddenly you are out of your division race and your chance for the national title could be gone in October.

Imagine what the NCAA would have to do if Northwestern had a hot year and a good schedule and so did BYU and say Washington State and Mississippi. Hard telling how many dozen people would pay to watch those games. 4-5 dozen beyond players’ families?

That would be a really really interesting climate if it became you can only qualify for the National Championship if you are part of the Power 4 conferences. Each conference would be required to have the same number of members - 16, 18, or 20. That would make for a very competitive climate as to which schools fight for which spots in each conference, especially with the group of 5 schools that have had a number of good runs in recent years. I looked at available teams, and there very well might not be a spot for every school that wants one. There really wouldn't be enough room, so some of those schools would have to decide whether they want to make the jump up a level or otherwise accept that they won't have the opportunity to compete.

lets just keep it close to home and say OU and Texas both jump ship.

Any bets on where the remainder schools go if the Big 12 folds? There'd be 8 teams.

Just from a regional standpoint, I'd say Iowa State and either of the Kansas schools to the Big 10. West Virginia and Notre Dame to the ACC. Then Oklahoma State and the other Kansas school might be left with no option but to join the Big 10 or the SEC and make either one of those an 18 team conference. Then TCU, Texas tech, and Baylor to the Pac, with them adding a BYU or Boise state to get to 16 It would be utter commotion if the Big 12 were to dissolve, but I feel that would be the inevitable outcome if OU and Texas really are going to leave. I really want to see it happen.

If Texas and OU bolt to greener pastures. I would like to see the Big 12 try to pickup two new teams. Possibly Houston, Boise State, Colorado or Memphis. This could be fun. But the Big 12 will be poorer without the Longhorns and Sooners. It would be like the Big10 losing Michigan and Ohio State. It’s very possible the conference could just dissolve and it would be the end of the Big 12.

It could happen, but I jist dont see it being successful. The Big 12 would effectively be no stronger than the AAC so I think it would be in the best interest of the schools left to also seek greener pastures. You take away Oklahoma and there really is zero substance to work with.
