Re: HyVee Growth Plans
Yeah Hy Vee has been really odd the last few years. They tried putting those Maid Rite places in their gas stations, then took them about and are putting their own stuff, then they went to Market Grille in some of their stores only to somewhat pivot away now with Wahlburgers. They also had those local distribution centers set up for local deliveries only to dismantle them, with awful timing right before Covid.
Hy Vee has never been our primary store even though it was the closest to my house. Their prices are just so much higher than Baker's, Target and the like. We still went there for meat. Now that we have Fareway near by (which is also cheaper than Hy Vee) we haven't been in a Hy Vee in a couple months. No reason too.
Here's their latest endeavor, and sounds like 2 coming to Omaha:

HyVee had a stand alone liquor store at 102nd and Maple for a while and it was fantastic. I believe they closed it when they remodeled 108 & Fort to include a liquor store.Greg S wrote: Wed Aug 04, 2021 6:49 pm Here's their latest endeavor, and sounds like 2 coming to Omaha:

HyVee is a copy cat that reacts to what others do. I am sure this is reacting to the popularity and success of Beer Wine and Spirits, or as most call it "Beers R Us".

I had forgot about that store on 102nd. First Omaha location is already under construction in the Montclair shopping center.

In the late 90's when I lived in Ceder Rapids IA they had a couple of stand-along liquor locations that were decent. No idea if they are still there or if they have been absorbed into Hyvee store locations.Greg S wrote: Thu Aug 05, 2021 2:32 pmI had forgot about that store on 102nd. There’s a building permit for one at Shadow Lake in Papillion, too. Shows the address as 7651 Towne Center Parkway — which is the old Bed Bath and Beyond.Brad wrote: Thu Aug 05, 2021 6:20 pm First Omaha location is already under construction in the Montclair shopping center.

Re: HyVee Growth Plans
As a craft beer enthusiast, I’m excited to see another option such as this. The Montclair shopping location will be less than a mile from my residence. Another mile down West Center Rd, located in the Oakview Mousetrap, is the Wine BEER & Spirits Superstore which opened in May 2020..and is in my rotation as a place I buy craft beer.. In order for this Hy-Vee concept to work, 3 things are a must- selection, freshness and price. Currently the Oakview Superstore has a great selection of fresh craft and typically pricing for craft beers there is $1.00 to $2.00 cheaper for 4 and 6 packs than current HyVee Spirit stores attached to their selected grocery store locations. HyVee still gets a part of my business today, but much less of it..as I find myself buying more locally brewed craft beer..and for freshness sake, I buy right at the source at various Omaha brewery taproom locations (Kros Strain, Monolithic, Pint 9, Bearded Brewer, Nebraska Brewing etc) or the Oakview Wine BEER & Spirits Superstore..WBR_Tom wrote: Sun Aug 08, 2021 1:20 amThere’s a building permit for one at Shadow Lake in Papillion, too. If this new HyVee concept is competitive with the pricing, and keeps a wide variety of FRESH craft beer available, then it will be a hit..and definitely in my rotation for purchases…

The 96th and Q HyVee had a standalone liquor store in one of the bays next door until their remodel about 6-7 years ago.

Spirit World is a place I might stop at once or twice a year..so it’s not in my usual rotation. With so many other options that have a wider variety, and great local breweries that sell fresh beer in their taprooms, I don’t find myself shopping for craft beer at Spirit World or Beertopia much these days..Up until 2018, Beertopia was a regular in my rotation I’d frequent for craft beer at least once a month. I don’t think I’ve stopped in there in over 2 years…

Spirit World is really named after it's specialty. If you're looking for some crazy bitters, aperitifs, liqueurs, liquors, or cordials you'll have a hard time finding a more diverse selection in Omaha.Omaha Cowboy wrote: Tue Aug 10, 2021 2:47 pmI think they’re okay. I was in the Millard HyVee today and a fight broke out at the exit of the store between a 70 year old man and a 35 yr old man. Surprisingly the old man was holding his own for a bit before the other guy got him in a full nelson and started dragging him into the store. The customers and staff were all pretending they did not see the fight go on so I took it upon myself to see what the problem was. I blocked the guy that had the old man in the full nelson from going any further and said "I'm going to need a pretty good reason for you doing this or I'm going to have to shut you down." He looks at me with google eyes and says "This guy is a thief and I'm an undercover police officer." I said "That is a pretty good reason" and I let him pass. I guess if you are a 72 year old man and you been stealing in HyVees you might want to knock it off before you get caught!

has anyone heard HyVee's growth plans with stores? Obviously the next location is Gretna as it is in progress now. What comes next? Elkhorn finally? or are there any stores that still need a reno?

Not sure where else could use a store “freshening”.. No HyVee in Elkhorn.. Hmmm.. Seems like a logical locale. He!l, at some point the way it’s growing, a HyVee in Bennington wouldn’t be out of the question..
And oh yeah- How about DOWNTOWN?!

That one has needed it the most for a long time, I'm so surprised it hasn't been yet. I can't tell you I believe they've ever remodeled it and it was built in the 90's right? I mean, aside from adding the liquor section, the main store is pretty well untouched.Omaha Cowboy wrote: Sat Aug 14, 2021 2:16 am Yeah- I had forgotten about 78th and Cass- that location could use a freshening up for sure…

The wine and spirits store at this location is one of the best HyVee locations in the metro. The selection is usually on point and the pricing is typically less (from my experience at least) at this location, than other HyVee metro locations…

I always wondered how they managed having some the cheapest prices on wine, beer and liquor when typically everything else in the store is a little more on the expensive side. The one on Fort is surprisingly even cheaper.Omaha Cowboy wrote: Sat Aug 14, 2021 3:40 am The wine and spirits store at this location is one of the best HyVee locations in the metro. Re: HyVee Growth Plans
Years ago when they were building the (then-new) gas station at that location, an employee told us that next-up was a renovation in the entire store. Sure, we could have misunderstood her or she could have been wrong, but she's been spot-on for everything else she's shared about the place. But...the renovation never happened. Then COVID happened and they did all the foolishness with one-way aisles. (Did all their stores do this?) Now it's been years since and still nothing, and meanwhile all the other stores in town seem fresher.Omaha Cowboy wrote: Sat Aug 14, 2021 2:16 am Yeah- I had forgotten about 78th and Cass- that location could use a freshening up for sure…

I would agree..garyomaha wrote: Sun Aug 15, 2021 7:53 pmYears ago when they were building the (then-new) gas station at that location, an employee told us that next-up was a renovation in the entire store. Sure, we could have misunderstood her or she could have been wrong, but she's been spot-on for everything else she's shared about the place.Omaha Cowboy wrote: Sat Aug 14, 2021 2:16 am Yeah- I had forgotten about 78th and Cass- that location could use a freshening up for sure…
This location could definitely use a store refresh. It’s a good location..and always seems to have brisk business as well…

I was in a Hy Vee this weekend in Shakopee MN. Had a good size children's clothing area (had a name but can't remember) had a DSW in it, Wahlburgers, plus it looked like several other dining options I had not seen in ours here.

But seriously, the way Bennington is growing right now, it’s future possibilities could include a full service grocer at some point down the line…

They are going to build a HyVee someday soon in Bennington guaranteed. The only question is where are they going to build it. First guess would be near that Caseys on 156th & Ida. Second guess 156th & Military.Omaha Cowboy wrote: Tue Aug 17, 2021 6:40 amI meant that as a more “tongue and cheek” comment..Silverspoon wrote: Tue Aug 17, 2021 4:51 am Bennington would be a pretty bad idea considering its a town of less than 2000 and the store on 156th Maple is right down the road from them.

Maybe technically... But close enough to Bennington. Just for fun, I would guess somewhere closer to HWY 36 and HWY 133, just for record in case it ever happens. Maybe somewhere around 132nd & HWY 36. Just guessing about 15-20 years out.Silverspoon wrote: Thu Aug 19, 2021 12:06 amThats still in Omaha...GrandpaaSmucker wrote: Tue Aug 17, 2021 1:47 pmFirst guess would be near that Caseys on 156th & Ida. Bennington itself will probably be Omaha in 20 years, especially if they get overzealous with their own annexationSilverspoon wrote: Thu Aug 19, 2021 12:06 amThats still in Omaha...GrandpaaSmucker wrote: Tue Aug 17, 2021 1:47 pmThey are going to build a HyVee someday soon in Bennington guaranteed. No way that Bennington gets to 10k before Omaha makes its move. I think your future HyVee Bennington location ideas are pretty sound. I wouldn’t be surprised if a location was added to this area in 10-15 years…Busguy2010 wrote: Thu Aug 19, 2021 1:11 amMaybe technically... But close enough to Bennington. I can tell you one store they WON'T be putting a Wahlburger's... 180th & Q St. I love that store and it's the closest to us, but they're always out of products and has the smallest footprint in Omaha. I've talked to managers about that store and they've told more than once that it's their highest-grossing store per square foot in the entire company.Greg S wrote: Thu Sep 23, 2021 4:45 pm Shadow Lake just announced a Wahlburgers is coming to that location as well.

I'm thinking they'll lose a lot of business in the near future once HWY 370 and 192nd is built. It will be about a draw as far as distance from our house so I may be one of those that changes stores.

Re: HyVee Growth Plans
The HyVee on 180th & Q never converted to a Market Express Grille. They don't even have a bar. The HyVees on 76th & Cass and 132nd & Dodge and the one in Council Bluffs on Madison are the same way. Those stores would need some major remodeling to be converted to Wahlburgers. The rest of the HyVee restaurants are Market Express Grilles and I suspect converting them to Wahlburgers involves little more then a change of signage. You would hope that changing to Wahlburgers would be an improvement but I would not bet on HyVee knowing what they are doing here.djc311 wrote: Fri Sep 24, 2021 12:16 pm

Various Wahlburgers have opened at a few Hy-Vee's across town. The Hy-Vee locations at 96th & Q, 144th & Stoney Brook Blvd, and 72nd & Hwy 370 all have Wahlburgers in them now. I ate at the one at 96th & Q for lunch today.

Re: HyVee Growth Plans
The FNBO branch in the Hyvee @ 180th and Q has closed in the last couple of weeks. All signage is down. Wonder if another bank moves in or if the space is repurposed.
For the record NEBUGEATER does not equal BUGEATER !!!!!!!
