I could definitely see Kansas, Kansas State and Iowa State all joining the Big Ten.

I see the B1G peeling West Virginia off the Big XII. Maybe Syracuse off the ACC, too. Honestly, the blockbusters had been exhausted after Texas A&M. Everyone else--including Mizzou and Nebraska--are just marginal.

Re: Nebraska Football 2021
The numbers don't quite add up. In a hypothetical 4 - 16 team system, and OU and Texas move to the SEC, the SEC would have 16. That would leave 8 members of the former Big 12 looking for landing spots. If all conferences are to consolidate into 4, that would leave the Big 10 with two available spots, the Pac 12 with four available spots, and with Notre Dame hypothetically almost certainly moving to the ACC if all this were to happen, that would leave the ACC with one open spot. So 7 available spots for 8 former Big 12 teams. That would cause all sorts of chaos.
So maybe, with a lot of mid-majors looking to compete, that would open the consideration for all conferences to expand to 18 by adding two additional Group of 5 schools. Or maybe one of the Big 12 teams would consider moving down.
Obviously there are a huge amount of things that go into it that I'm not even aware of, but from a purely regional standpoint, I'd put Kansas and Iowa State into the Big 10. Then I'd put Texas Tech, Baylor, Oklahoma State and Kansas State in the Pac, West Virginia in the ACC, and TCU would be the odd man left out, in that scenario. OR they could all add mid majors to get to 18 and not leave TCU out.
I hope this happens, it could be really fun to watch shake out.

If Kansas, K State and Iowa State do join the Big Ten, Nebraska would be playing its former rivals. And Iowa State would be in the same conference as its in-state rival.

It is amazing how the endless speculation has blown up in just 2 days. This article has Iowa State and Kansas coming to the BIg 10. Kansas and Iowa State would give Nebraska a little company in the bottom of the Big 10.

Haha, right? But then I got to thinking Iowa State is actually pretty good recently. At least welcoming Kansas might be a guaranteed win every year. Iowa State I wouldnt be confident about. My how the Huskers have fallen.GrandpaaSmucker wrote: Fri Jul 23, 2021 10:39 pm It is amazing how the endless speculation has blown up in just 2 days. Good to know that most of what I'm thinking appears to be common sense. Soon as OU and Texas announce, all the cards will fall and it will be fun to see where they land.

It’s official- Texas and Oklahoma are leaving the Big 12 conference after their contracts expire for the 2024/2025 sports season- From CBS Sports-
“Texas and Oklahoma have officially begun their transition from the Big 12 to the SEC. The two schools announced Monday they will not renew their grant of rights agreement with the Big 12, though they plan to "honor their existing ... agreements" through the 2024-25 term.”..

Ok, just a thought, but as the SEC and B1G turn into mega conferences where they will end up with long internal playoffs and at the end have the same slots in the nationals as the micro conference champs have, I wonder if they are looking at Tx and OU and thinking, I add those two and then I can dump Vanderbilt and Tenn? The B1G thinks they can pull in KU and ISU and then dump NU and Maryland or Rutgers?
Would keep their current bloated size down and get rid of some weak teams.

Re: Nebraska Football 2021
It could happen, but my feel is more that OU and Texas are leaving, and the rest of the Big 12 will be scrambling for a landing spot. The imminent story is what will the remaining Big 12 schools do? I think there'd be little - if any - other inter-conference poaching being done. From the sound of it, no conferences are looking to add schools, but seems like they are all open to the idea.bigredmed1 wrote: Mon Jul 26, 2021 1:35 pm Ok, just a thought, but as the SEC and B1G turn into mega conferences where they will end up with long internal playoffs and at the end have the same slots in the nationals as the micro conference champs have, I wonder if they are looking at Tx and OU and thinking, I add those two and then I can dump Vanderbilt and Tenn? My takeaway is the Big 12 can't survive without those two teams, and the leftovers will have to find a landing spot by 2024-2025... Plenty of time. sounded like they intend to stick with the Big 12 through 2024 anyway. So nothing in the near future seems to be changing.
Oh yeah, and I think there are give or take 64-72 schools that are definitely trying for a national championship. I don't think there will be any sort of subtraction or exchanges. Four 16-18 team conferences just seems so sensical that maybe it was just how it was supposed to be all along. This development really makes me think we can finally get a legit playoff system established for D1 college football, and that would be awesome.

Re: Nebraska Football 2021
If I had to guess, the SEC is going to pick up OU and TX, and then by 2030 there will be a new organization that has totally separated from the NCAA, and is now a roughly 64 team new association with the top of the SEC/ACC/B1G/PAC-1X with Notre Dame and maybe a few other schools like KU. That org handle Football, Men's/Women's basketball, and maybe a few other sports like baseball or hockey. What NCAA does with basketball will determine where it goes, if it tries to use that as a stick to keep the football schools in, well, I think the Big East, KU, and Duke are about the only schools that would care.
I think the NCAA as it has been since the 60s is unrecognizable in 10 years.

The NCAA will have a hard road ahead if they push too hard on the bball schools. With players getting paid and the NBA D league working ok so far, the attraction to go to the D league for the extra bucks and less burdensome lifestyle (no class work) will pull players that were never serious about school, make recruiting for the no name schools harder and make recruiting for non marquee players harder for the name schools. Might see some schools toss in the towel like they did with football. Too much cost for too little reward.
Glad to see the NCAA looking into a dark place.

I think with NIL the players will still flock to the Power 5 and marquee schools. Where can you make more in endorsements, Kansas and Duke or a D League team. Honestly I can't name what the D League cities and mascots are. They don't pay much, they don't get much publicity. Right now these schools became even more attractive vs the D League.bigredmed1 wrote: Mon Jul 26, 2021 4:57 pm The NCAA will have a hard road ahead if they push too hard on the bball schools. The points have been lowered again and Nebraska is now a 7 point favorite at Illinois on August 28th. It is being reported that so far 65% of all the bets made have been on Illinois. Illinois is still a fabulous bet getting 7 points so the odds makers are still going to have to lower the points more to get people to stop betting Illinois. You would have to be seriously intoxicated on the Husker koolaide to bet on Nebraska giving up 7 points.
I would guess there has to be at least a 33% chance this game in Illinois does not happen due to Covid. I wanted to bet on the under over on the games Nebraska would win this year but there is no point in making that bet with the Covid in the shadows. I would say the odds of at least 1 Nebraska game getting cancelled this season due to the Covid has to be at least 50-60%.
Article in today's paper has Scott Frost stating there are a number of players who are not vaccinated- https://omaha.com/sports/huskers/footba ... op-story-1

With 10 says left until the first game I am ready to make my prediction. Final score is 38-23. Illinois wins by 2 touchdowns against an inept Nebraska team headed for a long year. The only thing that could save Scott Frost from getting cut loose now is the Covid! He could always just blame it on the Covid.

Frost isn’t going to get fired as it would cost way too much to buy him out and put together a recruitment package for a new coaching staff.GrandpaaSmucker wrote: Tue Aug 17, 2021 9:10 am With 10 says left until the first game I am ready to make my prediction. NU’s problem is that they missed their launch window. They didn’t invest strategically in the AD AND the rest of the university. In the 90’s when they had their last dominant teams, they had a killer weight room and several majors that made bank for their grads. They were the best school in the nation for construction management. Now, they are still good, but no longer dominant. They still have killer facilities, but so does nearly every university that does football. Where did this money go?
It didn’t get put into becoming dominant in a profitable undergrad program (so the smart players could do that major and back up their NFL dreams with a real job). They didn’t invest in making a more successful walk on program when they saw surrounding programs eat their lunch. They didn’t invest in better training and kinesiology programs to attract high level athletes to Nebraska instead of Florida or some place warmer.
Now, the slack has to be taken up and the new AD and NU President have to sack up and spend wisely. Buying him out after an extension? Money that could be invested more profitably.
Don’t get me wrong, he isn’t doing well here, and didn’t deserve the extension. But it will be an 8 figure deal all in to get a new coach. That will not fix the fix they are in.

I thought all that TV money was going to turn UNL into an amalgam of UT-Austin, Stanford, and Michigan when it came to becoming a "World University"! They din't spend it all on Frost, Hoiberg and Alberts.bigredmed1 wrote: Tue Aug 17, 2021 11:11 amFrost isn’t going to get fired as it would cost way too much to buy him out and put together a recruitment package for a new coaching staff.GrandpaaSmucker wrote: Tue Aug 17, 2021 9:10 am With 10 says left until the first game I am ready to make my prediction. The facilities haven’t been kept world beating. The academics aren’t getting bumped up. Quick, name a thing that NU is known for in terms of academics that Iowa or ISU isn’t better.
If you could walk on and ultimately compete for a scholarship, but could get a scholarship at NDSU or Kearney and end up with that career in investment advising that you wanted and get it for free, why would you pay for Lincoln?

That supposition would make sense if those fools actually manged money sensibly. Problem is they never have and never will. If they were that worried about money they would not have given Moo's 1 1/2 million dollars as a going away present. Who ever said they cared about spending money wisely? After all it is not their money they are wasting and throwing in the wind.

Moos was owed the money contractually. Once the deal was signed, it has to be honored. The NU chancellor and admin are responsible for that. The Regents can be voted out. They can also be supervised by the legislature more closely as can NU’s budget. Given it’s size compared to the budget of the state, it should be torn apart line by line. Especially given their long term management shortsightedness.

Nebraska Cornhuskers Football & Coach Scott Frost Under Investigation for NCAA Violations
Nebraska’s football program and coach Scott Frost are under NCAA investigation for improper use of analysts and consultants during practices and games, sources told The Action Network.
The school, sources said, has “significant video footage” confirming the practice violations took place in the presence of Frost and other assistants.
Frost has obtained legal counsel, and the NCAA has interviewed Frost, multiple current and former staff members, administration and football players regarding the allegations, sources said. The allegations date back 12 months.
Also, last year — when the NCAA prohibited organized athletic activities because of the pandemic — Nebraska relocated its strength workouts to an undisclosed off-campus location to avoid detection by non-football school officials, sources said.

Better hope the NCAA does not check us for steroids er I mean Frostys hot seat just went up another notch.
So now they are saying the idea to weasel out of the Oklahoma game was Scott Frost's and that Moos was against the idea. What a total lack of respect for Good Sportsmanship and contracts and agreements and civility.

Seems like a minor infraction that could happen any day at any school... But combine it with the losing, being chickenshit about Oklahoma, and all the other ineptitude surrounding the football program, it absolutely is embarrassing. It was almost not worth taking all the Saturdays off this fall for Husker football. Man, they need to win. If it weren't for all the other embarrassing things, Frost might have survived a 5-7 season in 2021. But now man, he's GOT to go 6-6 and win the bowl game. That's gotta be the benchmark now. I've been very forgiving, but If I was the AD, he's got one year left to prove it.

Do coach contracts these days give athletic departments cause to fire them for something like this? Or are ADs on the hook for the contract regardless?

The Big Ten sent out a press release on Monday saying that if a team is unable to play a conference games because of positive tests, the team impacted by the virus will have to forfeit. The league said games will not be rescheduled. If both teams are unable to play because of Covid, the game will be ruled a no contest.

I'm excited for the season to start, but I also do not feel whatsoever secure in the Huskers to win their first game. Illinois is a tough opponent for the lowly Huskers these days. But it is about time for predictions... Although I think it won't be an easy game to play or watch, I think the Huskers start with a win, and the score will be uncomfortable at times, but the Huskers pull through 31-24

Sounds fair to me. Gives major incentive to being disciplined about your virus measures and not getting sick/preventing flareups on campus.Uffda wrote: Mon Aug 23, 2021 1:37 pm The Big Ten sent out a press release on Monday saying that if a team is unable to play a conference games because of positive tests, the team impacted by the virus will have to forfeit. The league said games will not be rescheduled. If both teams are unable to play because of Covid, the game will be ruled a no contest.

If it was coming up to the 4th game of the season against Oklahoma and Nebraska had lost 2 out of the first 3 games. Taking a Covid Forfeit might seem like a gift to a coach who never wanted to play the game in the first place.

Well it is almost the end of the 1rst quarter.......If you can't see that Illinois will win by more then 2 touchdowns yet you need to ban yourself from the Husker koolaide.
