Fast Food Talk Thread
RE: Burger King at 2615 S 177th Plz, Omaha, NE 68130
I noticed there haven't been any cars at all in the parking lot the last few days. So, I looped through and there's a sign on their front door that says "Closed due to maintenance." In the current restaurant staffing and pandemic environment I find that is rarely the case. Anyone know what's really going on there?
Way back when I worked chain fast food they didn't close for hardly anything and if a maintenance issue forced a close they spared no expense getting it fixed ASAP as that was usually cheaper than losing days of revenue. So, the fact they're closed for "maintenance" but no maintenance crews are present is interesting. I know they had reduced their hours to like 8 AM to 8 PM because they couldn't staff the place.
Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe something significant IS broken.

Re: Burger King (177th & W Center Rd)
Something is "significantly broken" with the Burger Kings at 177th & Center, 144th & Center and the one in Millard at 138th & Q. There may be problems at other Burger Kings in town but these 3 are the ones I have noticed that seem to have operationally broken down. If I were to guess I would say that the owners or managers of these Burger King franchises have become derelict in their duties. Of course if you ask them they will lie and spin and make up some B.S about the problem is they can not get enough help. We all know that is a bold faced lie. How come no McDonald's in this area are having problems staying open then? The whole labor shortage issue is nothing more then scammer crooked businessmen trying to circumvent the rule of supply and demand by attempting to get the government to force people into economic positions where they will work for cheap. Most people out here have figured out these Burger Kings are FUBAR and do not even go to them anymore.
I pulled up to the drive thru speaker at the Burger King on 177th & Center a few weeks back and there were only 2 cars in the entire parking lot. Nobody would answer so I drove around to the drive thru window and beat on it until somebody came. It was an 18 to 19 year old guy who came to the window and he asked what I wanted. I asked why they were closed and he said we are not closed we are open. I said if you are open then how come nobody is here and why are you not taking orders at the speaker and why did you just ask me what I wanted? He said were open what would you like to order? I said never mind I get the picture sorry to have bothered you. He was glad I was leaving and in fact that was his goal in the first place. I ran ino situations just like that other times at 144th & Center and here in Millard. Frankly I could care less if they go out of business or not but I find this pandemic twist bizarre to witness.

This BK has sucked for years! They opened with 2 drive thru lanes and the outside lane has been closed for probably 5 years or more.GrandpaaSmucker wrote: Mon Aug 23, 2021 9:03 am Something is "significantly broken" with the Burger Kings at 177th & Center, 144th & Center and the one in Millard at 138th & Q. I don't visit BK too often, but when I do this is the closest to our house - and they are always slow and terrible. For being the #2 chain for fast food in the country, they have certainly let this one go down the toilet bowl. Honestly, I'm surprised it's even open (or was). Closed for maintenance sounds more like "closed because the last 5 customers we actually had decided to never come back".
You would think that location is pretty prime - near Target, hotels, WalMart, doctor's offices, Lakeside Hospital... the lease or property certainly isn't cheap there.
Assuming they close I hope something goes in that's worth a dang - and that it doesn't follow the same demise as old Taco Bell buildings that turn into Chinese restaurants that change names about every 18 months.

Omaha's BK have been poorly run long before the pandemic. Probably a factor why its had a greater impact on them.

I used to work the drive thru at that location in high school for a couple years. It was a fairly busy location. I'm surprised they let it fall apart that much. Now I wonder if they ever replaced those crappy green-screen registers.djc311 wrote: Mon Aug 23, 2021 4:05 pm This BK has sucked for years! The one at 76th and Dodge used to suck as bad as you all are describing the other ones, but now it is one of the "best" (for Burger King). I wonder what the change was there... I'm just saying that a complete 180 is possible, as I've seen it happen at 76th & Dodge.

Overall I agree, the BK's in Omaha have dramatically gone down hill. Hit or miss out of town. Something seems to be wrong in the company as whole but I agree, locally even worse.

Not sure who they are all owned by but the one at Hwy 370 and 42nd St. is terrible as well. Usually only 3 people working, so the dining room is indefinitely closed and the drive-thru takes forever.

Some of it seems to revolve around basic maintance. At all the ones around here, the screens that list your order on the drive true are broken, and have been for some time.Greg S wrote: Tue Aug 24, 2021 3:09 pm Overall I agree, the BK's in Omaha have dramatically gone down hill. The one at 29th & Dodge has been having problems as well. The dining room isn't open. One time I pulled up to the drive thru speaker and was greeted with "Welcome to Burger King. We don't have any burgers. Or pop. Or Ice". I almost always get chicken, so the lack of beef didn't bother me. I settled for lemonade, but it was pretty much water with a hint of lemon flavor. The next time I went, the drive thru took forever. I wanted BK for lunch on Friday and I drove past 29th & Dodge to the one on Saddlecreek. No issues there. I'll be skipping 29th Street from now on.GrandpaaSmucker wrote: Mon Aug 23, 2021 9:03 am Something is "significantly broken" with the Burger Kings at 177th & Center, 144th & Center and the one in Millard at 138th & Q. I went into one location in Lincoln last year to use the restroom, and afterwards tried to buy an iced tea or whatever to be considerate. You could tell that the AC wasn't working, and the casher told me that they were out of either large cups, or something like that and I had to walk out.

BK’s are hit and miss, I was at the one on 72nd st just north of I-80 a while back and it seemed fine. It was recently remodeled. But others are run down and it’s best to go somewhere else. Probably a dying chain like Wendy’s.

The one at 72nd and Blondo is pretty bad....two different times, I went to their drive thru at 8:00 and they were not open either time. One time, an employee came up behind me to switch the menu from dinner to breakfast and told me that due to an emergency they were closed. I asked when they were going to open and he said 8:00 - I mentioned it was 8:03 and asked when they will open - he did not have an answer for me.
Maybe they should all follow suit with the Lincoln BK for posting on their signs that they all quit.

Burger King on 138th & Q looks to be still sitting strong on the Restaurant Covid Casualty watch list. They were closed and down for the count today at 3:30 PM on a Sunday afternoon.

Holy |expletive| - I would have thought for sure this location was somewhat "safe", or owned by someone that gave two poops about their business... they just spent a ton of money on remodeling that store! It's one of the few I've seen with the "frame broiled since..." signs up and the all digital menus like McDonald's restaurants have. The BK on 177th & Center has looked like a dump for years, and definitely hasn't been updated or remodeled in the past 10 years.GrandpaaSmucker wrote: Sun Aug 29, 2021 5:26 pm Burger King on 138th & Q looks to be still sitting strong on the Restaurant Covid Casualty watch list. I didn't drive into the parking lot, but when I passed the BK on 177th & Center this weekend the inside (left) drive thru lane had a cone standing up in front of it and the outside (right) lane had the arm down which has been down for years. I could tell there was some type of paper sign taped to the doors, and I'd only have to speculate they were closed.
Not a huge BK fan but it's interesting to see a franchise that requires so much $$$ fall apart.
Perhaps if they enhanced their menu with their Chicken Parmesan sandwich the Rodeo Cheeseburger again they'd bring in the biz!
That last comment is simply my preferred items they used to offer. I know their restaurants need a lot more love than an added sandwich!

The location off 680 & Blair Hwy. often has no cars in the parking lot and none in the drive thru. Used to be a great location.
How can corporate not see the train wreck this current franchisee is operating?

I was thinking the same thing - I'd say BK in Nebraska has a huge black mark on their reputation given the walk out at the Lincoln store and obviously something happening to many of their Omaha stores.bbinks wrote: Mon Aug 30, 2021 7:41 am The location off 680 & Blair Hwy. often has no cars in the parking lot and none in the drive thru. I would imagine they can't simply come in and take over stores they don't operate as corporate locations unless they get sold back. I don't think in the 46 years of living in Omaha that I've ever seen a normally pretty reputable, well-known chain go through this. I mean if it were Subways or something that's in a strip mall I suppose I wouldn't be quite as surprised, but not free standing million dollar stores. I suppose Covid could have affected it in some way but I can definitely speak from personal experience that the one on 177th has been a dump with poor service for several years.

Like I said, only "good" ones I know of are 76th & Dodge, and the one on 72nd by I-80 is decent. I so seldom go to BK any more that I don't venture out to any other locations. Only one I can confirm blows is the 72nd & Blondo one. Others I've been to and didn't care for are 72nd & Redick, and 60th & Ames. Got food poisoning from the one at 30th & Forest Lawn, but the service wasn't bad there. Oh yeah, 90th & Bedford sucked. There are a few more that I've been to once, but can't recall the service. Now, I'm talking I've been to these locations over the course of like 15 or 20 years, so they all could have changed for better or worse.Greg S wrote: Mon Aug 30, 2021 9:28 am Are there any well run BK's in the Omaha area? Corporate can revoke the franchise license for not operating within required standards. Maybe we got spoiled by how well Simmonds ran them

I actually had a great experience from the BK on 42nd and Hwy 370. I ordered on the app and they had my food ready within a min or two of arriving at the drive-thru, granted I was the only car, but they were fast and the food was great.

That's good to know. I work in an office near Twin Creek. I went to that BK a few weeks ago and they had a handwritten sign on the drive thru that some equipment referencing their buns (insert joke here) was not working. I think it was the bun heater (insert joke #2 here). I decided to pass. I couldn't remember their buns being heated or toasted but figured if they were posting warnings about it, something might taste off.skinzfan23 wrote: Thu Sep 02, 2021 11:12 am I actually had a great experience from the BK on 42nd and Hwy 370. Earlier this week after all this BK talk I was craving a whopper at work so I hit the one on Cornhusker and about 21st. It was good but not great. I noticed the outside of the building needs some work. You never really see that with McDonalds. The contrast locally is crazy on how much better kept and updated the McDonald's are compared to BK.

Re: Burger King (Omaha Area BKs)
I agree with the McDonalds vs BK comparison. And the one on 21st and Cornhusker is pretty horrible....not to mention that the drive thru has several huge potholes that you have to try to avoid. That location was taken care of before the pandemic and seems like it has gotten worse. Speaking of Bellevue BK's the one on Galvin was remodeled a few years ago. I haven't been to it for a long time so I am not sure their quality, but it does look nicer.
The one on 42nd and 370 only had 2 guys working when I went through...one at the window and one making food, but at least they made it quickly.

Re: Burger King (Omaha Area BKs)
Speaking of only 2 guys working, I stopped late in the spring at the last exit in Iowa on 35 before entering Minnesota. Has a fairly large Diamond Joe's Casino. They have a BP convenience store that has a BK attached. We go to Minnesota some for hockey and this is a convenient stop to get gas and food. Well when when stopped in May the BK had what seemed to be a Grandfather, Grandmother and Grandson as their employees. I am almost positive that they were family. Felt bad for them. They were working their tales off but clearly could not keep up (it always seems to be a busy location). We didn't have time to wait as they seemed backed up in both the dining room and drive thru.skinzfan23 wrote: Thu Sep 02, 2021 12:45 pm I agree with the McDonalds vs BK comparison. 138th & Maple is awful, too. Terrible service and closed down about every other day for one thing or another. 108th & Emmet is a smidge better, assuming you can dodge the massive potholes in the parking lot.Busguy2010 wrote: Mon Aug 30, 2021 11:04 amLike I said, only "good" ones I know of are 76th & Dodge, and the one on 72nd by I-80 is decent. This would include their kitchen being in good working order too.

I will say the one on 84th & Harrison near where I work is pretty decent and does good business over the lunch hour.

Re: Burger King (177th & W Center Rd)
Yeah I agree with the one on 134th and Maple. That's the closest to my house and it's really gone down hill (and it looks bad because the Wendy's, Arby's and McD's near it are all well run).Ryan_Huskers wrote: Fri Sep 03, 2021 11:03 am138th & Maple is awful, too. Crazy thing is, I went to the one at 84th and Harrison today because I had a coupon for a free whopper for doing a survey for the one I visited earlier in the week in Bellevue. I just happened to be near it at lunch. I concur, it was a good one.

I think the basis is the night and day difference between the former and current franchisee. Tri City Foods is running the gold mine that Simmonds Restaurant Management had into the ground.

They must be a truly crappy place to work as Dairy Queen and McDonalds are close to normal hours.

Re: Burger King (Omaha Area BKs)
I honestly don't know how Burger King maintains. Pretty pricey, unreliable hours, rude staff, unreliable quality. They've come up with some pretty gimmicky stuff over the years too, hit or miss. Pretty much all I ever get there now is a whopper or impossible whopper. Fries are meh, but I'll eat em. Most of the things I loved at that place are gone now such as:
Funnel cake sticks
Tendercrisp
A1 burger
Angry whopper (with a non red bun)
Cinni-minis
Mac n Cheetos, and flamin hot mac n Cheetos
I was surprised to see chicken fries are still a thing, haven't had them in a while. Well, so as you can see, I used to love BK, but they'be gotten rid of most the stuff I liked so I don't go there often.

I honestly don’t understand why people in the Omaha metro would really consider Burger King when one craves a fast food burger..Busguy2010 wrote: Sun Sep 05, 2021 9:48 pm I honestly don't know how Burger King maintains. Pretty pricey, unreliable hours, rude staff, unreliable quality.
I’ll take Don & Millie’s, Runza or Broncos ANY day over the sh!t BK puts out..and, for maybe another buck or so, I’ll call a place like Omaha Tap House for a fantastic take out burger with much better sides..
People being up and arms about Burger King and it’s quality cracks me up in laughter.. I can’t remember the last time I wasted my time ordering anything at a BK.. Perhaps it was 5 years ago

The only reason I go there now is for breakfast. I rather enjoy their breakfast croissant sandwiches, even if they do sometimes come out looking like someone sat on them!

Well, food always looks better on TV than it does in real life.
