Another Westroads Shooting
Another Black Eye for Westroads..
At least this one was not IN the mall.. But two 18 year olds were shot, one fatally, in the parking lot just outside of Dick’s Sporting Goods late Sunday.. Remember, this shooting is almost exactly 5 months since the last fatal shooting at Westroads.. This is really concerning on so many levels..

Re: Westroads Development
Considering all the trouble they have had at Westroads you would hope that the management would have enough common sense to not to host a circus in a tent late at night in the parking lot in front of Dicks where a couple people at least have already been shot. Come on man!
I am sure I would probably be hoping way too much that people would have enough darn sense to stay out of a big tent full of people in the middle of the peak of the current pandemic surge

Sick of hearing about kids, kids killing each other... Especially on someone else's property. What a disgrace.
I think that makes it 3 shootings there in like a year. I sure hope the hooligans can cut it out, as these things are definitely hurting Westroads' reputation.

I thought I had heard about some youths on the Penny's parking garage rooftop with a rifle recently too. I can't find any link to it though. But the 3 shootings are definitely a problem.

More bad publicity for Westroads. Really unfortunate, the mall has been a survivor in the crazy world of retail. But violence like this threatens to end its long run. It’s really Omaha’s only mall left.

Re: Westroads Development
Ever since the Von Maur incident, my wife hasn't chosen Westroads as the first place to shop for anything... we've visited, but usually not the first choice.
It's really too bad this nonsense continues to occur. I can tell you that Top Golf will suffer too if this |expletive| continues to take place. It's not worth the risk, there are plenty of other places to go where the odds of experiencing gunfire are lower.
A couple things - one story I read said there's one dead, one in critical condition. They also mentioned there's no description of a suspect available but that also the "general public isn't in danger or shouldn't be concerned". Usually that means all of the victims involved are also the only shooter(s). Have they confirmed this?
I do believe since it happened outside of mall hours it's likely lower risk to shoppers, but regardless you're now talking 3 shootings at the same mall in 12 months or less, right? Definitely knocks that place down on the list of places to go to.

Yep. People aren't going to remember that it's "after hours at some weird circus event". They're going to remember "it's another shooting at Westroads".

This is the headline on KETV's website: "Police identify 18-year-old victims in deadly shooting in west Omaha shootingNEDodger wrote: Mon Sep 13, 2021 2:49 pmdjc311 wrote: Mon Sep 13, 2021 1:12 pm I do believe since it happened outside of mall hours it's likely lower risk to shoppers, but regardless you're now talking 3 shootings at the same mall in 12 months or less, right? Omaha police investigators believe the shooting happened in the north parking lot of Westroads Mall"
Rather proves your point. The article never metions a circus at all.

Re: Another Westroads Shooting
It didn’t happen during mall hours, or inside the mall, or endanger shoppers. Apparently no one saw it, much less 50 videos going up on social media. So I don’t think it will have that much of an impact. But of course it’s not good news.
I’m guessing this is the last such “weird circus event” to ever be held there.

Yeah, it doesn't really change anything for me. If it was inside, sure, but outside in the parking lot is a different story.nativeomahan wrote: Mon Sep 13, 2021 3:37 pm It didn’t happen during mall hours, or inside the mall, or endanger shoppers. Re: Another Westroads Shooting
The funny thing is, I saw the same circus/Ferris wheel type event happening at Oakview Mall over the weekend as well..In fact, I drove by Oakview late this afternoon and the Ferris wheel was still spinning..GrandpaaSmucker wrote: Mon Sep 13, 2021 11:52 amConsidering all the trouble they have had at Westroads you would hope that the management would have enough common sense to not to host a circus in a tent late at night in the parking lot in front of Dicks where a couple people at least have already been shot. I don’t know how well these mall carnivals are attended..but there have been no shootings at Oakview..in fact, I can’t remember a shooting/homicide that’s occurred within the Oakview Mall or surrounding Mousetrap since the area opened for business in 1991..
Just this year, in March, at Westroads- a police officer was shot and critically wounded in the afternoon just outside at the JCPenny’s Mall parking area..a month later on April 17th, there was a fatal shooting inside the mall that left people scrambling for their lives..now Sunday night, in the same outdoor type carnival event that Oakview appears to also be hosting, a double shooting which results in another homicide..
Any way we slice or spin this, it’s not a good look for Westroads (a 2021 understatement for sure)..
Regardless of the circumstances, these 3 acts of fatal violence happened on Westroads property..and for a mall that’s supposed to be the “flagship” for Omaha..well, like I stated earlier, it’s VERY concerning..especially with the holiday shopping spike just around the corner in November/December…

There were several armed parties breaking into cars. OPD got a couple still on the garage roof parking and then a couple were detained inside the mall. A weapon was recovered from under a car. IIRC it was the Friday of Labor Day weekend.bbinks wrote: Mon Sep 13, 2021 12:43 pm I thought I had heard about some youths on the Penny's parking garage rooftop with a rifle recently too.
