You’d have to think the end is near for WOWT’s John Knicely as lead evening anchor..

He’s got to be 68-72 years old…

He'll milk it until his salary costs them too much.

If I recall, salary was the reason they used for getting rid of Jim Flowers

Yeah. I think I said it in an earlier post here that if I was him, I’d probably want to milk it as long as I could too..

Unless, of course, the guy would really like to retire. Which I think is a real possibility considering his age…

I wondered if this was involved.

Julie Cornell being the exception. Props to Channel 7 on that. Male anchors don’t seem to have to face this reality.

And TV news is not an easy gig for a parent. Channel 3 tried to make it work for her by moving her to a 4:30 am shift, but that likely requires her to get up two hours before that.... which means going to bed well before even most toddlers bed times. There simply isn't an 8-5 job in news. It seems like most female TV anchors in this market have bailed when their kids started school.

And from what I've seen, most of them have done very well going into business.

Yeah that seems to be the case. Julie Cornell seems to be the only one that's comeback as the kids got older. Melissa Fry will be the next one to watch now that she has multiple kids.

I’m pretty sure it was KETV meteorologist Caitlin Harvey who likely said that..and I’ll give her a pass- first, because she’s still new and still a little nervous coming from a much smaller TV market in Oregon..second- because she’s really good and getting much better as the weeks move on..

I’ve heard much worse from more experienced on air talent in Omaha lol…

Yeah that's nothing. Today Quanecia Fraser's phone rang on air. A long time ago Melissa Fry meant to say "cut" and you can imagine the word that actually came out of her mouth, on the 5:00 news.

And to be sure, we are "heading into" harvest season. No foul. Caitlin is good, I just don't like the way she moves her hands. Like that's a problem. I still prefer Matt Serwe and Sean Everson, they're more jipper. The one I really miss is Laurann.

Saturday night 07 August: I don't know what was worse--Six blowing off any WX coverage at all until at least 1030, account Olympics(TM) (shades of the Millard 230AM 2008 tornado); or Seven leaving Wild Bill Randby to ramble for at least an hour, with Fili butting in occasionally. Their director was orgasming getting to play with the tower cam zoom functions, and the producer must have been out of town. Bill didn't help with his obsessive use of the telestrator to point out stalled cars along 480 and circling police walking in to check on them.

The correct answer, of course is that they were both bad, by different metrics.

I understand that the NWS is 'just the facts, ma'am' and it's up to broadcast TV to distill and expand--but the TV mets here are horrible at it. Seven's weather department in particular is overrated when it comes to severe WX.

Seven went to Castle at 1035--as advertised--but broke in ten minutes later--after the warnings were canceled and Douglas was essentially rain-free. Nothing was occurring at 1045 that wasn't at 1015.

Roger Olson is back on the air on KFAB this morning. In a passing comment, it sounded like it had been 19 months since he was last on the air. That sounds about right for when he was let go.

He did mention that he had been doing some things behind the scenes recently too.

I am sure that it was an iHart move too when he exited.

Interesting..

A friend of mine heard him that first morning back on air and she said Olsen mentioned she had a throat ailment or issue which kept him off the air? I didn’t hear it, so can’t confirm.. A lay off due to restructure makes sense though..

I am glad to hear he’s back on the air..although the only time I listen to KFAB is Saturday morning’s to catch Grow Omaha…

I hadn't heard this, but Maya Saenz not only left Omaha, but left the news business. She's in Chicago, opened her own business. Too bad, but I'm glad she got out of the industry.

Not that I’m aware. They just added Caitlin Harvey last winter..

I still think they’re trying to hire the replacement for the 2020 bailings of Molly Bernard and Laurann Robinson. Even though they hired Caitlin, they’re still down one..

Unless someone else has any additional intel…

Nice to see Channel 7 let Matt say goodbye and give him a nice send off. I didn't talk to him nearly has much as Thor, but he certainly did a nice job.

That is sad that Matt is leaving KETV, other than Bill Randby or Rusty with WOWT, he is the best one. I was hoping that he wouldn't leave since his spouse is here in Omaha, but yet again another great news person is leaving Omaha.
