I'm bummed about that departure. He was a great personality and superb meteorologist to have here. I suppose not too surprised he is off to a bigger market.

Agreed. He always did a solid job. Bothersome that Hearst is using KETV as a farm team. The issue with that approach is that the people not moving up don’t transition into development as much as they quit inside.MadMartin8 wrote: Wed Sep 22, 2021 12:28 pm I'm bummed about that departure. That’s a big jump up, Omaha seems to be a launching point for other nearby larger media markets to pluck talent. At least at KETV.

ketv changed the reporter job to weekend morning anchor reporter.
KETV is looking for someone to co-anchor our top-rated weekend morning newscasts. In addition, you’d be reporting three days a week either in a general assignment role, or part of our award-winning investigative unit.

If you work at KETV, as your post insinuates, it just seems like most everyone 7 hires lately, are here for one contract and gone for the bigger market prize..ajwees41 wrote: Sun Sep 26, 2021 5:23 pm ketv changed the reporter job to weekend morning anchor reporter.

Is there any newbie hired there lately that likes Omaha enough to stick around longer than a couple of years in your opinion?…

Jose Zozaya is moving to PHX, for the moment Mallory will stay in Omaha--I'd say the odds are she'll be leaving, too.

Got to think that it is losing revenue with cord cutting. Omaha is still good for over the air TV, unlike Phoenix and some other cities, but still, got to be hurting.

^hmm, I never considered that. With all the people that have come and gone from KETV to bigger markets, when they move, are they still working for the same company? As you said farm team, or like a AAA baseball club.

At least based on the last two, I'd say no. Jose went to Phoenix, Matt to Minneapolis. Hearst doesn't have stations in either market.Busguy2010 wrote: Tue Oct 05, 2021 11:25 am ^hmm, I never considered that. They work in a smaller market or markets for awhile, move up to a mid-major market like Omaha, cut their teeth for one contract (which basically lasts 2 years) then when the opportunity presents itself to move up the market food chain, they’re gone.. This has always happened in markets like Omaha.. But in the past, it seemed some would stick around in Omaha for the longer haul- mainly because they cared about and genuinely liked the community..
These days, ambition rules the roost..Especially at KETV for some reason…

I mean if your ambition at a news network is to move up the roster, become the head weatherman or anchor.... Julie Cornell, Rob McCartney, and Bill Randby have been at the top of KETV for as long as I can remember. TV reporting pays |expletive|, so I'm not gonna throw shade at people for trying to move up in different markets so they can actually pay their bills.Omaha Cowboy wrote: Tue Oct 05, 2021 5:26 pmHonestly, I think KETV is hiring people whose only goal, is to move up the market food chain..bigredmed1 wrote: Tue Oct 05, 2021 10:50 amSo is Hearst running it as a farm team for their major markets or is the management at KETV running people out the door?Omaha Cowboy wrote: Mon Oct 04, 2021 7:07 pmThe revolving door talent train departure continues at KETV..damonhynes wrote: Mon Oct 04, 2021 1:20 pm Jose Zozaya is moving to PHX, for the moment Mallory will stay in Omaha--I'd say the odds are she'll be leaving, too.

Don't disagree at all. How'd you like to be a TV meteorologist, six years (at least) of college, and you wind up doing traffic reports? Oh, the glamour of journalism.Garrett wrote: Tue Oct 05, 2021 5:57 pmI mean if your ambition at a news network is to move up the roster, become the head weatherman or anchor.... And in the Black Swan department, a former Omaha news personality left for the bright lights, and decided it wasn't all it was advertised: Mary Nelson, formerly of KMTV, then of QVC, is now back at 3! Jen Griswold's old spot in the AM!

She don't count. I heard from someone she did a story on that she was a real condescending |expletive| the whole time. And thus every time I see her on, I have a not so flattering jingle that I sing.
Melissa Fry is one that stuck it out. Started as traffic girl, bounced around all over the place, and has settled as the morning anchor. A funny story about her, she was doing the 5:00 news and was looking straight into the camera and meant to say "cut", but another word came out.
David earl has been around a while.
One that always make me laugh is Waverle Monroe just cause she always seems so not-into-it.

Stone has at least been around for awhile now. There are a handful, like her, who have stayed on with KETV beyond just 2-4 years..so in that sense, she counts.. She has never left, then came back..that I remember at least. Correct me if I’m wrong…Busguy2010 wrote: Wed Oct 06, 2021 11:48 amShe don't count. Yeah, I know. I just said she don't count cause, you know, you usually want to keep around the people you like, and I have a not-so-savory view of her because of how she treated my friend. So if she left, I wouldn't be complaining about it. But then you have a plethora of people I want to stick around leaving. Seems like every time I like a news reporter/anchor/meteorologist, they leave.

Exactly. On-camera, she personifies contemporary journalism, and that's not a compliment. I'm not singling her out, though. I just want to say it is all fine and good what folks are doing in the privacy of their own fine homes but when it gets to the point you are hanging out in the parking lots of News stations then you are out of bounds. Know when enough is enough!

I've heard the same thing about virtually every anchor/reporter in Omaha, including 2 of the ones you mentioned. We all have bad days or someone catches us at the wrong time. In my opinion, Alexandra seems much more authentic and sincere than most others, especially some of what channels 3 or 6 trot out there.

Like you stated, we’re only human and everyone has a bad day here and there. The most important thing, is I receive my news from TV accurately and professionally..and it’d be nice to see less transit and more stability in our TV market..
Other than that, I think Omaha holds its own pretty well compared to similar sized 1-1.5 million population metropolitan areas as it relates to television news…

WOWT just got a new chief meteorologist. I follow both Rusty Lord and his wife on Twitter, and one of them asked about moving a piano to Texas, so maybe he's being transferred.

According to a number of posts, Lord Rusty is staying. New title: "Senior Chief Meteorologist"! Emily is "Chief Meteorologist"...jessep28 wrote: Fri Oct 15, 2021 6:12 pm WOWT just got a new chief meteorologist. I follow both Rusty Lord and his wife on Twitter, and one of them asked about moving a piano to Texas, so maybe he's being transferred.
This smacks of consultant-speak. Never heard that description before.

Yes. Whenever I hear Rusty Lord doing his short forecasts on the local radio stations, it just sounds weird and cringe worthy when he says "Senior Chief Meteorologist Rusty Lord." Makes you wonder if that was one of the conditions of the new lady's employment that she be called "Chief Meteorologist...."
