I think 6-6 is the best they can do, and if they do it, I will be very happy. I think if they go to a bowl and win it, they'd be very deserving of a 24 rank after a bowl victory. Especially with a win against a top 10 Michigan or Iowa.
I wholeheartedly believe they can beat Purdue and Minnesota, and pull out a win vs Michigan, Wisconsin, or Iowa.

The Wolverines are only favored by 3 points, and their overall stats compared to the Huskers are pretty comparable, with the Huskers having arguably played tougher competition so far this year.
I'm going with the Huskers winning this one 24-20.
They have a path to at least 6 wins this year and maybe more. I wouldn’t of said this before the Michigan State game. A bowl game would be huge for the psyche of the program.
Nebraska had 3 stunning offensive plays Saturday that to me brought back memories of their glory years. Martinez opening pass, Yants long stiff arming run and Betts sweeping run around the edge for a long touchdown. All of these plays made a statement that this offense can be explosive and score quickly. The game this week against Michigan is the biggest game of The Frost era and you need to go back to the Pelini years to find a bigger game than this Saturday’s.

That was our last winning season, Nebraska faded after that loss. Riley faded as well. This week is probably our biggest home night game since the Pelini era then.
We just don't know for sure yet if Michigan is for real or not. If Michigan really is a top 10 team then Nebraska could be in for a whooping. If Michigan is ranked way too high then the Huskers have a good chance. It is safe to suspect that Michigan is going to try to stop Martinez from running the ball and force him to pass. The idea that Martinez could win this game with his arm seems far fetched. The idea that the Nebraska defense will have an answer for Michigan's run game seems suspect as well.
I predict that Nebraska will have trouble scoring and the defense will not be able to shut down the Michigan run game.
Halftime report- MIchigan is clearly an over ranked team. Nebraska clearly has a chance at winning this game. Both teams quarterbacks are just lousy passers.
The outlook is bleak if the Huskers come out and get stopped on that first drive. Nebraska has to get some points on that first drive or the game is going to get away from them. Michigan knows all this so they will be playing the run hard and forcing Martinez to pass. Odds are 50/50 Martinez comes out and throws an interception that first drive. Martinez has got to dance or die.
How about that new Tanners commercial featuring the BIg Red Insider Sean Callahan and Jojo and some other current player. What a poorly produced joke that commercial is. Wonder what those guys got paid to do that.
NU did just about everything right, but still found a way to blow it. There were a lot of explosive plays on offense, but Martinez still needs to work on passing accuracy and holding on to the ball no matter what.

Not much to say. This would of been a fantastic win, but it didn’t happen. Martinez while a very good player seems to have some issues with turnovers late in big games. I was worried he would throw an interception late in the 4th quarter but instead it was a fumble. Michigan was the better team. We need to get to a bowl game to salvage the season. If we can win 6 games I will consider this season a success.
If I was a Husker fan, I honestly don't know what I would find more frustrating; getting blown out like in year's past...or being so damn close to being undefeated this year.
This team is like 6 mistakes away from being undefeated. I feel bad for the kids on the field.

As a fan I can definitely say that getting blown out like in years past is a lot more frustrating. The thought that we were only 6 mistakes away from being undefeated makes me feel better and have hope that things will continue to get better. It might have been more than 6 mistakes though, otherwise I totally agree.

It was shocking how bad the passing game for Michigan was. Michigan is no more a top 10 team then Oklahoma is/was. The Michigan quarterback is as lousy a passer as Adrian Martinez and that is pretty bad. There is no way that Michigan gets through the rest of this season without losing a couple of games. Clearly Nebraska blew a chance last night at getting one of the few wins they will get all year.
Buying into the bull that Michigan is a good team and that Nebraska hung with a good team and now next week we will have an easier time against Minnesota is wishful thinking. Nebraska will be LUCKY to go into Minnesota and win next week.
The good folks around me feel differently. My favorite quote so far is "This proves once and for all that 97 Mich would have beat 97 Neb". I kid you not. Welcome to my world.

Martin, both are frustrating..
But if I had to choose, for me as a fan at least, getting your heart ripped out and losing a game your team was sooo close to winning, is far, FAR worse than absorbing a blow out loss…
Disappointing loss. They had it. But I'm still confident they will beat Minnesota and Purdue and have a chance at Wisconsin and Iowa. I'm optimistic for 6-6 still, but a win last night would have been a lot better. Man, so close. Good to see.
Scott Frost's record at Nebraska is worse than Bill Callahan's. If anyone else was the head coach for Nebraska right now, they'd be run right out of town.
This week against Minnesota is looking like a must win for Nebraska if they want to go to a bowl. A bowl game will be almost impossible if they lose this weekend. We would have to hope for an upset over powerful Ohio State or defensive juggernaut Iowa. Nebraska is a 2 1/2 point favorite over Minnesota Saturday. That is total nonsense. Minnesota is not thinking that Nebraska is a cupcake team but I bet they pretty much are counting this game as a for sure win.

Yes, I agree. Both Minnesota and Purdue are must-wins. They lose either of those and there's no way 6-6 is happening. That's what I was thinking as well, and man, this year is rough in that aspect for fans.
It's so strange because you could point to these losses in multiple ways; one being that Nebraska is now going toe-to-toe with top teams again and not being blownout (pending Ohio State, Iowa, and the rest of the schedule)...and then on the opposite side is the fact that, once again, stupid boneheaded mistakes that have plagued the Frost era reared their ugly heads again.

Not even close for me, the blowouts were far worse.
I really think that 6-6 needs to be the prerequisite for Frost to keep his job. I just don't see a point to keeping him if they fall flat again and finish with 4 straight losing seasons under him.
I know the spin in the state is that they are a few mistakes away from being undefeated; however, the mistakes have all been self inflicted wounds and indicative of a program that's poorly coached and managed. The same mistakes that were prevalent in game 1, year 1 are on full display this year. These games should come with a laugh track. It's been penalties, poor clock management, inexplicable play calling, turnovers, horrific special teams play, etc. A program like Alabama could maybe overcome one or two of these blunders each game, but not all of this. And, you never know which areas deficiencies will pop up from one game to the next. It's like plugging holes in the leaking ship with your fingers. The fact the effort is there from the kids is almost more damning to the coaching staff. I just don't think these clowns have any clue how to coach at the Big Ten level.
Year 1 should have been roughly 6-6. Year 2 should have been about 8-4. Year 3 easily could have been 5-3. Year 4 could be undefeated or maybe one loss. I know people who keep saying it's not about wins and losses yet? At what point will it be about wins and losses? Year 7?
And, if they fall flat the rest of this year, and you keep Frost, it's probably only delaying the inevitable. They lose a large part of the defense (the side that's kept them in every game this year) and will be starting a new QB. technically, 2022 may look like a rebuilding year. So, keep Frost after 2021 and you pretty much have to keep him through 2023 regardless of record in 2022.
At some point, it can't be about moral victories and just playing hard. I need to see this coaching staff and team has even one iota of the killer instinct needed to succeed long term. Haven't seen it yet.

As we all know Frost has never beat a ranked team and after losing to Michigan we now find Frost has lost 10 games in a row against ranked teams. Frost going to Wisconsin and Minnesota and winning is a fantasy. He might win one of those games but I would bet my life he does not win both. Fact of the matter is Frost will be lucky to win at Minnesota and Wisconsin. The only winnable game left is Purdue. Frost will get the last and 4th win against Purdue in Lincoln.
Nebraska is headed for another 4 win season and if they are lucky it will be 5 wins.

I heard some analyst say yesterday that when that happens Trev Alberts is going to send a Brinks truck full of cash over to Ames Iowa to get Matt Cambell. Sounds about right. I don't know much about Matt Cambell but he can't do no worse then only winning 4 games a year!

Trev doesn’t have a brinks truck full of money. That money got spent keeping the sellout streak going. Thousands of season tickets got bought to keep it alive.
Besides, with the cash it would take to pay off the remainder of his contract, and the Title IX atmosphere in college sports, I don’t think TA can afford a splashy hire with a big bucks contract and a another 3 years of rebuilding.
Best to let Frost burn up his contract, build TA’s war chest, let the Title IX atmosphere stabilize such that he can replace the volleyball coach when he retires. Then he will have the cash to make a splash in volleyball and then quietly hire a football coach with some money to give both new coaches some recruitment packages for desired assistants and players coming with.

This hurts my brain to try to get a wrap around of but it really is quite simple. If the money Nebraska spent to buy the tickets is going to Nebraska anyway then how are they really out any money. They are not out a dime and if they give the tickets away it might bring in more concession revenue. The only thing Nebraska is really out of would be integrity and honesty. The money is spent in the eyes of the public and the donors who donated the money. Say Trev was your buddy and he touched you for $10k to cover the sellout fail. You got another $10k to buy off Frost? Your accountant will tell you maybe, but your wife wants to give that annual donation to the girl’s high school she went to and the kid’s need that donation to prep. You covered the first hit, but the second and third hits are going to be the bridge too far.
You might also ask why your donations seem to do less good and recognizing that those tix you bought have a hard time being resold and often can’t be given away, maybe that donation plan needs adjustment.
It isn’t Trev’s money, it is the big pile of sports philanthropy money that is wearing out more and more as the generation that grew up with Bob and Tom is now in a home and their kids have other things they want to do with Dad’s money.
I think he's already got a pass to 2022. The way the team has competed against supposedly three of the best teams in the country has been very promising. I personally think if they take care of business against Minnesota and Purdue, finish 5-7 without a major stinker, that will be more than enough to buy him another year. That makes that stinker at Illinois a major sore thumb, but I still think 5-7 with the way the team has been performing lately would be enough... I know, enough in a disappointing way, but enough.

I think he’s safe till the end of 2022 season as well. The team has shown good improvement this year. They just can’t figure out how to win close games. Also we don’t know if Martinez will be back for a 5th season. I think Martinez has some of the worst luck with untimely fumbles I’ve ever seen. We made a nice comeback in the 3rd quarter but Michigan outplayed us in the 4th quarter. When it really mattered.
