The Jays just announced a fan fest night with tickets for $5 and a portion of the proceeds will go towards the players as the new NIL deals allow:

https://www.bluejaysbasketballfanfest.com/

It will include slam dunk, 3 pt shooting contest. There may also be a dance contest, FT contest between fans and maybe even named a coach of a 5-on-5 scrimmage.

This is a great idea. I always loved the event before as it gave everyone a chance to see the players up close and get autographs.

Absolutely agree. I wonder if there are going to be any mask requirements.

I also wonder how many people this event is going to draw. I would think they could get 4-5,000 people.

The players all mentioned that they are excited to play in front of 17,000. Kalkbrenner stated that is why most of them came to Creighton but he hasn't had that experience yet and can't wait.

I photographed Creighton Volleyball over the weekend. I was told there was a mask requirement, but if they did have one, it wasn't enforced. May be 20% of the crowd had a mask on.

Good to know. Obviously going to be a lot more fans at the basketball games and in a city facility so I am curious to see.

Honestly, I can’t wait until college basketball, specially Bluejay basketball is finally upon us..

Mask mandate or not, it’ll be great to see a full house at the arena downtown watching CU play..As much as this will be, perhaps, a rebuilding year, I could see the new talent mesh together and be really competitive in the Big East this season…

The Jays are actually receiving votes in the preseason Coaches poll:

They received 7 votes, which puts them 35th nationally.

Actually kind of embarrassing that every single season that they have been members of the Big East, they have finished at or higher than the Big East preseason prediction. Not saying that this year's team is going to be ranked throughout the season, but its sad that their own league gives them no credibility. Granted, these preseason national polls are based on the previous years finish a lot of times.

Creighton won their exh game vs Upper Iowa, 76-61.

Good min from Nembhard who finished with 10pts and 8 rebs. Ryan Hawkins lead the Jays with 15pts. Both Feazell and Kaluma had 9 boards each.

The Jays got down early and then went on a 32-2 run and lead most of the game by 20 or more.

About what was expected for all the new faces. Kaluma looked a little out of sorts and shot too many 3's but otherwise, you can tell the talent level is way higher than ever for the Jays. Just a matter if they can put it all together.

Big East basketball games can be forfeited due to COVID

Big East basketball teams will forfeit league games this season if they cannot take the court due to issues related to COVID-19.

The league announced the policy on Thursday for both men's and women's basketball in the 2021-22 season. The Big East board of directors approved it.

That is an awesome upgrade. I got to go in the rooms for a game a couple of years ago with my kids and thought it looked kind of plain, now it has that "wow' factor.

Creighton plays Nebraska in Lincoln a week from tomorrow. With all the changes at Creighton the Huskers playing at home might actually have a chance. I don't think that at all. The Huskers will get beat by 10 or 20 points would be my guess. Have not seen any points on this game yet.

I think it will be a competitive matchup this year. With both teams having almost completely new rosters and a lot of young guys, it is really hard to tell. They each have 2 more contests to get things down, but very difficult to tell this early in the season.

What a 2nd half by the Jays. Played like |expletive| during the first half and no D what so ever. Thankfully they came out in the 2nd half and were on fire both offensively and defensively.

At one point, the Jays were 0-14 from 3. I don't think I have ever seen them shoot that badly. (They finished making 7 of their last 11 though)

The athleticism on this team is far and away better than anyone has seen on a Jays team. Kaluma and AOC both had monstrous dunks that really got the crowd into it. Outscored Pine Bluff by 22 in the 2nd half.

Certainly a dunk a thon for the Jays in the 2nd half- lead by AOC and Kaluma..

This is definitely the most athletic team Coach Mac has assembled. Once they get more experience under their belts, I believe the Jays will make some noise in the Big East…

First half was rough again, just like in the exhibition. The second half was a thing of true beauty.

I think that's going to be the M.O that we'll see from this team at least through the beginning part of the year, which is probably normal for any young team I suppose. I think this team requires a rethink of how Creighton approaches games...they don't have to sit at half court passing the ball around and then throwing up threes anymore, they have the talent to slash down low and get points which is incredibly exciting for the future if everyone sticks around long enough. Definitely a new era of basketball at Creighton, just need the patience to let it gel.

Looking around the NCAA, there were a lot of scores that were closer than they probably should have been (Ohio State and Akron? Heck, Navy even beat Virginia, and Hofstra took Houston to OT). At least the Jays came out of the gate with a "W" instead of an "L".

McDermott announced that Mason Miller will redshirt this season. Probably not a bad idea with all the other guys in the mix at that position, plus he needs to bulk up a little as well.

That was a stinker of a shooting night, both from 3 and the Field. Hopefully those kinds of nights don't happen often, young team or not. These first half crapfests are concerning though.

I will take the win, 2-0 is better than 1-1 or 0-2, but there are definitely concern areas as we get later in th schedule.

5.3% from 3 on 1-19 shooting. Ouch

7 Creighton
Who's going to be the guy in Omaha? Freshman Ryan Nembhard is projected to be the best of 'em, though I admittedly have a hunch that lead guard Rati Andronikashvili -- who sat out last season with a torn ACL -- is going to grow into a very good four-year player. A former top-100 prospect, Andronikashvili will get to play off another promising young player: Arthur Kaluma. Creighton is undergoing a rebuild, though. No Big East team had more changeover in roster than the Jays -- and that includes a new starting five. One returnee: 7-footer Ryan Kalbrenner, who was a 10-feet-and-in guy last season but should double his minutes in '21-22.

Gunna be an interesting game tomorrow night in Lincoln. I don't either team is playing to their potential, which makes sense with so many new faces for each club. I just hope for a good game.
