Ohio State will run all over them. Frost won’t get fired and there are two reasons for that. It’s very expensive to fire him this season and there are a lot of better schools that are also looking and I would doubt that we could outspend some of them.

You’re right, it not a question of if they’ll win but how they’ll lose.Omaha Cowboy wrote: Fri Nov 05, 2021 12:27 pm See that’s the problem with this 2021 Husker team..
It’s not so much a mystery that more often than not, they’ll lose..It’s how they’ll lose which makes it so hard to pinpoint..
If NU plays tomorrow against the Buckeyes like they did against Purdue, I can see a 4-6 touchdown blowout loss.. If the Huskers play tomorrow like the did against Michigan St or Michigan, they’ll cover the spread and lose a close game..
Again, for me, it’s not so much they’ll win or lose (against Ohio St)-they will lose- it’s how they’ll lose which is the mystery to unravel…
Ciao..LiO…Peace
Here’s my % prediction for each way they could lose:
30% - Incomplete passes
10% - Iterceptions
15% - fumbles
10% - missed field goals/extra points
5% - sacks
10% - penalties
10% - bad play-calling
10% - missed tackles
He said "They are some big, ugly red brick buildings"
...and then they were gone.
...and then they were gone.

This 2021 Husker football team, collectively, plays the most unintelligent football I’ve seen..on any level..Including Pop-Warner..
They’re a stupid football team…

IMO, though the record doesn't reflect it, I'd say this is the best team since 2017 when they started going 4-8. Still I hope it isn't too bad a loss... Respectable losses is what I hope for the rest of the season. And that would be enough for me.GrandpaaSmucker wrote: Sat Nov 06, 2021 10:00 am Worst Scott Frost team ever VS Ohio State making another championship run

Defense is showing out so far. I love it. I get so nervous when the offense comes out. I wouldn't care if the Skers won 6-0 (defensive touchdown, missed extra point)

Wow! What a surprise. NU has definitely exceeded a lot of people’s expectations today so far.
Edit: probably good enough for Frost to keep his job though the 2022 season?

Re: Nebraska Football 2021
I'm not disappointed. I figured it would be a loss and the Skers covered. The defense impressed, and the offense was flat as expected. What I like about this team is they've has a good chance to beat what are now four top 5 teams or 7 teams, depending on the poll, thanks to the defense.

Well as I stated a couple of days back, the “mystery” isn’t if the Huskers will lose or not (they will and did lose)- the mystery is how they’ll lose..Omaha Cowboy wrote: Fri Nov 05, 2021 12:27 pm See that’s the problem with this 2021 Husker team..

26-17 Ohio St defeated Nebraska..
The NU team that played Michigan, Michigan St and Oklahoma showed up today..and as I thought, the Huskers played Ohio St close and covered the spread..
Also- As I’ve stated pretty much all season, the Huskers defense is legit..but this team simply makes too many mistakes to defeat a top 10 team in a close game..today, once again, the culprit was the kicking game aspect of special teams..
It adds up to another loss..and forget moral victories..A loss is yet another LOSS…

Re: Nebraska Football 2021
I wouldn't fire him. I get people are frustrated with the close losses narrative, but I remember just a few years ago, these close losses were 56-14 to the likes of Minnesota. I am more than convinced this is going the right direction, despite a likely 3-9 record. Save just a couple disastrous mistakes in all of these games and they are currently 10-0 and ranked #1. The bottom line for me is I can't seem to tune out of games so far this year. They've never not had a chance that hinged on the outcome of their final possession. It is starting to feel like "any given sunday" and that is a big improvement IMO.GetUrban wrote: Sat Nov 06, 2021 2:37 pm Edit: probably good enough for Frost to keep his job though the 2022 season?

The Big 10 was over rated and has now busted itself out. We are sure to hear a lot more of that theory from here on out. Ohio State's offense is clearly missing on a few cylinders without Justin Fields at the helm.Busguy2010 wrote: Sat Nov 06, 2021 6:12 pm Wow, Michigan State losing pretty big to Purdue. Re: Nebraska Football 2021
It’s pretty simple really- The Big 10 is a power 5 conference, one of the premiere college football conferences. UCF plays in the American Athletic Conference- most would have to look that up to find out. So competition in the AAC vs Big 10- no comparison. UCF is also located in Florida- one of the 3 richest recruiting states in the US (along with Texas and California)- even the players Miami U, Florida St or Florida don’t recruit, are richly talented and a college football program like UCF is the beneficiary..damonhynes wrote: Sun Nov 07, 2021 8:39 amAwburn. Scott Frost and his staff simply weren’t ready for the “big stage” when they arrived at NU in 2018..Maybe they will be someday..but even today, they have yet to break through- their current season record of 3-7 is complete evidence of that..
I believe Trev Alberts will give Frost one more year to try and get it together..If he fails to make progress and at least deliver a winning season, he’s gone after the 2022 campaign…

Re: Nebraska Football 2021
Actually winning a game has been so elusive for this team. It doesn’t matter how many other thing go your way. Points scored is the only metric that counts. It’s almost like “Oh yeah, we forgot to score”, that’s the point of the game. Of course, a lot of this have to go right to make winning possible.GrandpaaSmucker wrote: Sat Nov 06, 2021 10:04 pmThe quest is to win a game. Re: Nebraska Football 2021
So you want Frost out but it doesn't happen this year. What changes do you make?
(Obviously you look to the portal for OL help and a reliable kicker).
ASSISTANT COACHES: Guys I'm not sold on: Lubick, Verduzco.
Lubick
PLAY CALLING!!! The Frost/Lubick dynamic isn't working on offense.
1. 4th and goal(inches) and you run a shotgun hand off!? Our O-line is too inept to run a sneak? No, they aren't great, but not that bad.
2. There are many high percentage plays that could take advantage of Martinez's athleticism getting him out of the pocket (like play action bootleg) instead of getting trapped in the pocket and ultimately sacked from relentless pressure.
3. We have an obvious mismatch at TE with Allen, yet we don't seem to target him enough.
4. How many times the last two seasons have we heard or clearly seen a receiver run the wrong route? Remember Lubick is also the receivers coach.
Verduzco
1. Why are we sold on this guy to start with besides having coached Milton who you could argue had more natural talent?
2.Criticism of Martinez should start with Verduzco. Don't forget McCaffrey had similar struggles as Martinez.
Special Teams/Dawson
Dawson seems to do well with the LBs but is he overextended with the special teams that seems to have made very little progress this year?
Chinander
I'm not saying he should be fired but the inability to get consistent pressure on opposing offenses is disturbing when you have a veteran defensive backfield. Meanwhile, every team we play gets consistent pressure on Nebraska. If veteran defenders eligible to return for another season and decline Chinander will be back on the hot seat next year.
Oh? I forgot to mention Martinez?
Assuming he comes back...yes you can bench him and start the younger guys. Younger guys who will get a shot, when they are ready. No one would expect to hear Heisman and Martinez in the same sentence again but he isn't a bad option to have around while Smothers and Haarberg develop. I doubt either would beat out Martinez by the start of next season.

As a percentage of the impact players? 30-40%. A couple will go to the combine as they are seniors and a couple will stay. Martinez has no future outside of NU. He will stay.Uffda wrote: Mon Nov 08, 2021 5:36 am It will be interesting to see how many Husker football players hit the transfer portal after the season is over.
As a percentage of all players. Maybe 15%. After the last couple of years of global mistakes, I would think that other coaches would be wary of having to untrain these players in the eligibility time they have left.

Re: Nebraska Football 2021
I absoluteuely agree with all of this. Scott Frost appears to be a head coach that lacked attention to detail and self awareness of the limitations of his coaching acumen. He was doing things "good enough" to excel for a year at a mid major with a generational QB talent in an area rich in offensive skill position players, in a league where defense wasn't valued.Omaha Cowboy wrote: Sun Nov 07, 2021 9:10 amIt’s pretty simple really- The Big 10 is a power 5 conference, one of the premiere college football conferences. Once he hit NU, he thought he could just transplant what he was doing there for immediate success on the big stage, but it just made him look like a child playing around with dads tools in the garage with no idea what he was doing.
It does sound like one more year is possible at this point, if the tea leaves are to be believed. What I can't understand though, is this notion of "with significant offensive coaching changes". That makes zero sense to me...
1. What truly top flight offensive coaches are going to want to come to NU to coach under a guy that most nationally now see as a lame duck? You're going to have to overpay and offer a 2-3 year contract to get them here, because they know they will likely hit the unemployment line in a year if they don't get 7-8 wins.
2. Do you even trust Frost to hire more offensive coaches? He's already hired 2 OC's. The offense has actually regressed since Frost Hired Lubick to replace Walters. And, if you don't trust Frost to make that hire, you may as well fire him. I'm a firm believer that if you don't trust your coach to run the team, it's better to fire him. Forcing a guy on him that he has no rapport with and may not fit his vision is a recipe for disaster. Look at what happened with Diaco and Riley in 2017.
3. Do we even think Frosts overall vision on offense works in the Big Ten? The one thing NU hasn't done is try to fit the typical Big Ten power running mold. Everything they've done has been either West Coast Offense or some version of spread techniques....it has all mostly failed to live up to expectations. But, it isn't in Frosts DNA to suddenly flip and move to something closer to Iowa or Wisconsin. If he does, it will take several years to accomplish and he doesn't have that kind of good will left. He's burned it all out.
4. If you bring him back next year, you have to give him an extension right? The typical understanding is that your coach always perpetually needs 4-5 years left on his contract. Most close to the program feel that if you bring him back, a 1 year extention would have to be part of it. You'd be going all in on a coach that has proven nothing. It will likely be more dead money (of which Nebraska ranks #2 in already)
5. What is the expectation for 2022 if you do bring him back, with new offensive coaches. For me, it would be 8 wins or bust. Frost has used every ounce of his good will to me at this point. Close losses won't cut it anymore. eking out 6 wins over MAC teams in the non-con and then beating NW, ILL, and Purdue won't cut it either. I'd want at least 8 wins to keep him for 2023. If your expectations are similar, and you don't think he can reach it with a new defense next year, what's the point of keeping him now?
Just my thoughts. It's not as simple as "he's making progress, give him more time, but change some coaches" that I've been hearing floated around. It all costs money and all has long term ramifications.

Totally agree. And for those that keep saying he needs to make significant changes on the coaching staff, doesn't that negate the idea that they are "right there" with what they have? Doesn't it show a lack of trust in the results your eyes are seeing to say they are doing so well, but then want wholesale changes on the offensive coaching staff?Omaha Cowboy wrote: Mon Nov 08, 2021 10:53 amWe are completely on the same page here.. to your point #5, I *might* accept 7 wins.. but nothing lower (forget the six win bowl eligible crapola)- NU must have a winning REGULAR season in 2022…omaha79 wrote: Mon Nov 08, 2021 10:48 amI absoluteuely agree with all of this. Those kinds of changes are not gimmes. It can just as easily backfire or take significant time to implement. My fear is with a new offensive staff and possibly a new QB next year, along with losing half the defense, you're looking at a rough season even with an easier schedule. That defense played eraser all year for turnovers, terrible clock management, horrible offensive playcalling, and special teams that was constantly putting the defense in bad positions with 10 yard punts, etc.
Dial that defense back even 15-20% and these "oh so painfully close!" 7 point losses can quickly revert back to 21 point losses that are over by halftime. Frost will have to get much smarter...in a hurry, if he's going to keep coaching without this defense. And, what if Chinander just decides on his own to go get another job. He may be in demand after what he's done this season.
These are all things Trev Alberts and the BOR needs to be thinking extremely hard about. A new coach, with a better handle on fundamentals, could probably come in here and get 6-7 wins in year one. That would look like improvement.

Re: Nebraska Football 2021
Frost should of been fired last year but Bill Moos was asleep at the helm. The disaster Nebraska is currently enduring is tragic and did not have to happen. It was pointless to keep Frost around for this year. All the begging and whining and crying from fans and media can't save Frosty now. Frosty was the only one that could save Frosty and he knows it.
The only question is will Frosty get fired on Saturday the 27th or Monday the 29th. I'm going with the Sat. the 27th just like Osborne did when he fired Callahan. If you caught the Bengals vs Cleveland game Sunday you saw Browns offensive line coach Bill Callahan had quite a heap of praise being laid on him by the announcers. There can be life after getting canned by Nebraska.

Re: Nebraska Football 2021
I think the team as a whole is closer than they're been in years. I don't think anyone has that feeling about the offense outside of Frost & staff.omaha79 wrote: Mon Nov 08, 2021 11:05 am Totally agree. You run the same risk with a new HC coach which more than likely means new coordinators too.omaha79 wrote: Mon Nov 08, 2021 11:05 amThose kinds of changes are not gimmes. Completely agree. However, isn't it more risky turning over an entire coaching staff than say a coordinator? A coordinator with"...terrible clock management, horrible offensive play calling". That along with the O line woes is exactly what's kept Nebraska from getting over the hump. The biggest player needs of this team(to get over the hump) is improving the O-line which can be addressed immediately with jucos/portal. Still, new players can't fix bad play calling and clock management.
If you're pleased with Chinander don't forget axing Frost likely means he's out too. There are enough talented underclassmen left for Chinander to still have a solid defense next year.omaha79 wrote: Mon Nov 08, 2021 11:05 am Dial that defense back even 15-20% and these "oh so painfully close!" 7 point losses can quickly revert back to 21 point losses that are over by halftime.
