Nebraska volleyball series against Penn State canceled

Nebraska volleyball's matches scheduled for Thursday and Friday against Penn State have been canceled.

NU will have to wait for seedings on Sunday...

Such a bummer. Would have had crowds. Plus that makes 2 marquee matches that have been cancelled, first Wisconsin, now this.

I was actually going to ask if the Wisconsin matches were rescheduled. Guess I have my answer. That's a bummer, and a bit odd.

I don’t remember any of the teams in volleyball making up games lost due to Covid, at least in the Big 10. Penn State just canceled their series with Wisconsin prior to this.

You would remember correctly then. I was merely curious if they were going to attempt to or had set aside time at the end of the season since a lot of big time matches went by the wayside, and the fact that they are not/did not is a shame.

Get ready for a bubble-wrapped 10 days of NCAA volleyball

Now, the entire NCAA volleyball tournament is coming to Omaha. It starts April 14 with 48 teams. It will end April 24 with one national champion.

They’ll live at the Hilton, Marriott, Hilton Garden Inn, Courtyard Marriott, Doubletree, Hyatt Place and Homewood Suites.

The first three rounds will be played on four competition courts in the convention center. There will be up to eight more courts for practicing.

The CHI Health Center Arena won’t be used until the fourth round, or the regional finals.

I think the next few weeks with Nebraska volleyball are going to be fascinating. They've got their top rated recruiting class in history coming in (some arrived for 2nd semester), plus the seniors have the option of coming back. Will be interesting to see how it all plays out.

Was bummed to see them lose yesterday but this year's team was one of my favorites to watch.

Big Red trio of Larson, Wong-Orantes, Robinson help USA volleyball net Olympic gold

The Americans won 25-21, 25-20, 25-14 Sunday to net the country’s first Olympic gold medal in women’s volleyball. The U.S. was 0 for 3 in previous title matches, losing to Brazil in 2008 and 2012 and China in 1984.

Nebraska volleyball coach John Cook says there are plans to honor Jordan Larson at a Husker match the weekend of Oct. 1, when Larson is back to be inducted into the Nebraska Athletics Hall of Fame.

“Karch Kiraly (USA coach) has been with USA Volleyball since the ’80s, won four gold medals, one as a coach,” Cook said. “He says she’s the greatest ever in the history of USA Volleyball. And I would agree with that.”
