This isn't my favorite development right now (Because Blackstone and the Justice Center exist), but this is looking great!

Until seeing this photo, I did not know that Kum & Go has non-gas station convenience stores.

Yep, this is the first one in Nebraska, and only second overall for them: https://capitoldistrictomaha.com/tenant/kum-go/.

All the renderings seem to be from the south east facing north west. I would like to see a 360 view. Also really cant get an idea of height yet. How much higher is it going?

Looking great. Eventually the camera showing the Gene Leahy Mall should be able to pick this up.

Unfortunately I think there is a reason for this. I am predicting a blank street wall with some driveways for the side facing capitol district. We will see, but it would be a wasted opportunity if so.

Between this and the new bandshell in the park, I wonder if they'll try to lure Maha downtown from Aksarben.

From this interview (and I can't remember exactly when Lauran talks about it), it sounds like Maha may move downtown in the future.

I'm thinking the stage will be on the north side and face south, and that this part here is the top of it.

Thanks for the different perspective. I am so glad that parking lot is gone. The only ones I hate more downtown are the big ones in the Old Market.

For sure. Hopefully this helps them fill that brand new mixed use building. That thing is still completely empty.

Anyway, I like the picture updates. I was down here recently and I think it's an exciting development. I would much rather they incorporate other uses, like residential on top of these new performance venues, ala the Orpheum, but OPA doesn't seem to have any interest in that.

That new building actually has a temporary Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel exhibit in one of the bays. I went when it first opened, actually a pretty neat exhibit. But anyways, Steelhouse house should definitely be a shot in the arm for the capital district. Also excited to see a little non business activity at this section of dodge. Dodge street between 11th and 30th is no mans land in the evening.

Latest Milestone for New Live Music Venue Tuesday

Omaha, NE (November 16, 2021) – Omaha Performing Arts (O-pa) and the Kiewit Building Group held a topping out ceremony today for O-pa's new live music venue, Steelhouse Omaha. Steelhouse is now fully framed, with the final steel beam hoisted and installed at the top of the structure this morning.

Workers attached an evergreen tree to the top beam, a tradition signifying that the construction milestone was reached safely. Crews also attached an American flag which signifies the proud Americans who have worked on the project.

“It has been exciting to watch the construction proceed and to see the building changing every day,” said Joan Squires, President of O-pa. “This venue will further transform downtown Omaha and we can’t wait to welcome artists and patrons to Steelhouse Omaha in mid-2023.”

Steelhouse Omaha is part of the planned expansion of O-pa’s arts and entertainment campus near the Holland Performing Arts Center. It will provide flexible space to accommodate audiences of 1,500 to 3,000. When it opens in 2023, Steelhouse is expected to have a transformational impact on the regional music scene, as well as the ongoing redevelopment of the city’s urban core and riverfront.

This one sure went up fast. Amazing transformation from the nasty asphalt parking lot that cover that lot for too many years.

Its a solid cinder block wall!

I also a little surprised how far back the south side is from Dodge Street. I sure once that glass entry way gets installed and the sidewalk built, it wont look nearly as far.

The photos look good! This structure will be a big impact to transforming Capitol Avenue into one of Omaha's best streets. The only major thing left to complete the street is to develop the grass lot to the west with a high-rise.

Personally, I'd love to see some old fashioned partial block high rises. 4 ~15 story buildings would be great too.

I agree. More partial block high-rises would great anywhere downtown, either along Capitol Ave or on the west side of 10th and Farnam.

Omaha Performing Arts just put out this press release announcing Live Nation as the promoter for Steelhouse Omaha.
Omaha Performing Arts wrote:Omaha, NE (January 27, 2022) – Omaha Performing Arts (O-pa) announced today that Live Nation, the world’s leading live entertainment company, will be the exclusive promoter for its new live music venue Steelhouse Omaha. Located at 12th
and Dodge Streets, Steelhouse Omaha is scheduled to open in mid-2023.

“We are pleased to be entering into this partnership with Live Nation to bring their world-class expertise to our new
venue,” said Joan Squires, President of O-pa. “Our relationship will also ensure that we are able to take advantage of the
performing artists and entertainers they work with and bring them to fans in Omaha.”

“We know this is a growing live music market, and Steelhouse Omaha will be a spectacular new venue for artists to play
in Nebraska,“ said Jason Wright, President of Live Nation Midwest. "There is a lot of opportunity to bring more concerts
to the city, and we really value the partnership with Omaha Performing Arts.”

Omaha Performing Arts will be responsible for the management and staffing of Steelhouse Omaha. “In addition to the live
events and performances that Live Nation will promote in the new building, there will also be opportunities for
community organizations to utilize Steelhouse Omaha,“ Squires added.

Steelhouse Omaha is part of the planned expansion of O-pa’s arts and entertainment campus near the Holland
Performing Arts Center. It will provide flexible space to accommodate audiences of 1,500 to 3,000. The $104.1M venue
has been funded with private support and $1.1M from the City of Omaha. When it opens in 2023, Steelhouse is expected
to have a transformational impact on the regional music scene, as well as the ongoing redevelopment of the city’s urban
core and riverfront.

Project partners include Kiewit Building Group, Ennead Architects of New York City, and Holland Basham Architects of
Omaha.
