It just feels like the Nebraska football season is already over, has seemed so since the Michigan game ended . Somethings been “off” with this program for a while now.

I am going to be curious to see how many current Huskers hit the transfer portal. The way RBs have been utilized or not utilized this year, I can see some of them looking for different locations.

Side note - WanDale Robinson who transferred to Kentucky currently has 77 catches for 886 yards - a 11.5 yd average. Guess he made a good decision.

It will be interesting on the running backs, though it might be negated some since they are getting a new position coach. Sounds like that is one group that wasn't too unhappy they lost their coach (this is from Monday's press conference).

Prediction time... I think the loss of JoJo Domann is gonna hurt. The defense won't hold up quite like it did. If he were in, I'd be calling this a swing game (28-24 either team wins), but now I'm less confident.

Wisconsin 31-21

But if they can hold to that number, they would still have a chance to hold that stat I mentioned earlier of holding every game below 32 for the first time since 2009.

Yeah Domann has had a good year. I will say I think he also had one of the better replacements behind him with Isaac Gifford. The tough part is it seems like Nebraska is due for one blowout loss this year. Wisconsin is peaking. Having said all that I will go:

Wisconsin 34-17

Wisconsin 35 NU 21.

The question is which Nebraska team will show up. The one against Michigan or the one against Minnesota and Purdue.

Trev just gave Frost, et. al. the rest of the season off. Zero pressure and let's try again next fall.

Currently the point spread is 9 1/2. All things considered that seems real low.

Greg
The point spreads in Nebraska games are about emotional betting. If they made a more accurate 12-14 point spread, no one would bet. Badger fans would hold off thinking that the Skers might cover that much. Make it 9.5 points and you burn the husker bettors that figure they will lose but will also cover at 14.

So far Wisconsin does not look like a team that has one 6 games in a row. Not impressed. I wonder if they were looking ahead to Minnesota next week.

Of course, the Huskers fight and claw- cover the point spread, but still lose..

The defense has an uncharacteristic bad rush defense game..then the usual untimely holding penalty in the most crucial time.. Naturally the officials swallow their whistles and don’t call pass interference on Wisconsin in the end..

35-28 Wisconsin..

Not much more needs to be said…

The bookies have to live the Skers this season. Just good enough to cover the spread. A bunch of Buckie fans are crying in their beers after paying off their bets tonight.

They played a fairly solid game. Take away those three big plays, it was a much different outcome.

Heartbreak Huskers... And yeah, that was BS. They probably could have and should have called pass interference on half of those last 4 downs. Although I didn't like the call not to use their timeouts with 50+ seconds left. Could have easily called 4 chunk plays to get that last 20 yards with more time. Instead, 4 failed shots at the end zone IIRC.

Interesting stat- Nebraska’s 8 losses this year have been by a combined 49 points- for an average margin per loss of 6.13 points per game..

Less than a Touchdown average! I don’t believe there has ever been, in my lifetime (following college football (since 1970), that a 3-8 team has lost all 8 of their games by such a close margin per loss.. No loss was double digit. Ohio St was a 9 point loss, but remember, it was a 6 point game when the Buckeyes decided to kick a late FG for win security..

Soooo frustrating..Law of averages would say at least 1 or 2 of these games would have went the Huskers way..

Not with this team this year..and it’s obvious the combination of reasons why…

I’d vote for NU as the best 3-8 team in the country. They got robbed on that last pass interference penalty non-call, but still just made a few too many mistakes, such as holding.

When it comes down to it, I wasn't expecting a win, and yet again, I'm surprisingly pleased with the effort, despite yet another loss. This is the first time since 2016 that the Skers hadn't been blown out by Wisconsin IIRC, with 2015 being the only other close one, and that its progress in itself.

If Nebraska had a consistent QB and just overall killer instinct from the team...it'd only have 1-2 losses at this point.

Absolutely befuddling at how close, yet so far away that team is.

From my usual 30,000 feet view of the Nebraska football team, my opinion is that Nebraska has made remarkable progress this year. A year ago, they were clearly overmatched against teams like Ohio State. Every year included getting blown out a few times. Because it is just a game, played by others, I watch football for its entertainment value. The games were generally fun to watch as the team usually played hard and every loss was close until the end, and the schedule this season was brutal.

Except for the mistakes, especially from early in the season, I enjoy watching NU's offense. Specifically, I enjoy seeing the few plays of 'running the option' as I was a big fan in the 80's and 90's. As for today's game, Wisconsin's defense gave up more yards than it has all year. NU lost another close game to a ranked team.

Lost in these losses, IMO, is that the team has become much more competitive than in recent years while playing a much more difficult schedule.

Meh. I understand what you’re saying. I really do. But unless that competitiveness results in wins, a loss is a loss. Nebraska is 3-8 this season. That’s horrible. And for me, as another posted pointed out, losing 8 games by a grand total of 49 points is frustrating. I mean c’mon. Michigan St, #7 ranked in the country, lost by 49 points today! These close losses are more maddening to me than getting blown out. I could give a sh!t about progress and bring “competitive”. Bill Parcels said it best- your current record tells you what you are this deep into a football season. Nebraska is currently 3-8. And that is a failure.

Yeah, I'm totally in disagreement with this, but that's okay. I see this year - despite it being what, the worst record (if they don't win Friday) in modern Husker history - as having shown a LOT of progress and promise. Hanging with, and having a chance at some of the top teams in the country nearly every week ought to show people that a couple more years of this, frustrating as it may be, might turn these close losses into close wins. This was the year of believing... They finally believe they can beat anybody and that is a far departure from 2017-2020. The games are actually fun to watch now, and they have proven me wrong each and every week in terms of the kind of fight they put up.

I think he caught some people’s interest because he had street clothes on and was standing very close to Frost. I also wondered who he was. He should maybe wear a Husker jacket or hat then he will blend in a little more.

Yeah that would have made more sense. Also he wasn’t just standing close — he was ‘holding Frost back’ after the no call at the end of the game.

Yes. This is one of my biggest Frost criticisms. The thinking apparently is to let the clock run so the opponent doesn't have a chance to answer, yet, in doing so ironically limits NU's chance of leveling or taking the lead. How many games have we seen this and not just this year? If Frost is to let go of some of the reins game management should be first.

How about a healthy QB? There's no way Martinez is/was 100% in spite of what the announcers said. Same disappointing, "so close" result.

As much as most here don't want to hear about moral victories and yes, a loss is still a loss but consider Nebraska was without their best defensive player(and no Williams) down to fourth and fifth string at running back(Belt had a few nice hard runs). Was anyone expecting this close of a result? Nebraska also put up the most points since Michigan. It was nice to see Allen utilized to the extent he was unlike most of the season. Frustrating moreover, to still see Improvements, but still not enough to get over the hump.

Nebraska needs to go back to a two QB system. When Martinez is sick or having another of his bad games, there needs to be a replacement that is not just “on paper”. The second stringer needs playing time and focus by the coaching staff so we can keep the offense running.

Too much emphasis on star players and when one goes out, the next one in line is really weak.

Dan Mullen out as Florida’s head football coach

Mullen finishes his UF career 34-15 (21-14 SEC) in three-plus seasons.

And I didn’t know this

Though he wasn’t UF’s only target — the Gators also courted Scott Frost (then at UCF) and former Oregon coach Chip Kelly — Mullen was a nice fallback.

I know Scott Frost was Nebraska's #1, but if he didn't work out, I think Dan Mullen was rumored to be an option for the Huskers. Despite the record, I'm glad Scott Frost is the head coach.

Yes, NU needs a capable back-up given how much Martinez has played injured. I'm not as harsh a critic on Martinez as many but it can't always be Martinez or bust. I suppose McCaffrey(the former #2) bailing was a factor. Whether Martinez comes back or not I'm confident we'll see more second and third QBs getting more game reps next year.

They need to have games in the bag for that to happen... But I heard a decision from Martinez will be made soon, and we will hear it soon. I can't imagine any other major schools are clamoring over him, so I assume he stays. Great character in him, but too much of a rollercoaster of a QB. I won't mind if he comes back, but I certainly wont be excited, and will be prepared for a lot of turn overs. But I'd be equally anxious if a greenhorn were to start next year. Don't know of any potential transfers that would be interested.

Yeah and that's how it used to work. Only what two and a half games in the bag to develop young guys this season? I have a fair amount of confidence in the young guys probably over a potential transfer. And with a small class next year I'd be looking hard and O-line transfers.

a 3-8 Team opening as a favorite against a what, 9-2 or so team? Boy Vegas/Casinos/etc is trying to get some bets on this one.

That said, I know enough Iowa fans that I will be actively rooting for Nebraska this Friday.
