It's too bad about all the garbage around the slides. I used to take my daughters there when they were little to slide(with wax paper) and I would pick up garbage around the slides while they were playing and throw it away in the trash cans that are RIGHT THERE!

Some people are just pigs.

Thanks, projectman. When I walked by I couldn't believe it myself! Really - we were there on Wednesday and it was all nice and clean with a couple stray boxes to use.

Wow, great photos. By the time you were taking those sunrise photos, I had already been awake for about 2 hours volunteering at the Omaha Marathon.....

Thanks, Streets! The marathon sound much more fun than work, but the early wake up calls are a killer! Get any pics of the marathon?

Nope. No pictures of the marathon. I even brought my camera with me, hoping to catch some shots, but I was just to preoccupied with handing out water to the marathoners.

I also really like the first photo. It's just a great angle.

I have never seen the slide area that dirty. Did you notice if they put the canopy back up over the slides. It was gone for a while.

Keeping in mind... it's not as if those are liquor bottles/disgarded fast food wrappers/etc. As was alluded to earlier... they are pieces of wax paper/other materials... that kids used to make the ride down the slide that much more quick. Of course it would be nice if they would throw them away when they are done (I have seen plenty of people re-use other peoples disgards).

Thanks guys! The first shot was actually taken from the back patio at Gallup while I had some downtime. There's a better angle from Gallup's "pier", but it vibrates too much (from walking, etc) to do any kind of timed exposure on a tripod. I haven't tried shooting from the walking path yet but I will certainly have plenty of time to this weekend at work. I'll post if anything worthwhile becomes of it. One of these days (nights) I'll have to get on the roof!

DTO - I didn't notice the canopy being there or not. Last Wednesday was the first day that I've ever been to the slides, sadly enough.

Harvest moon is tonight, but I'm stuck in Overland Park with my film camera, not the 20D

Yea the parents need to take a little responsibility for the kids. I remember glaring at one of them as their kids made a mess and didn't have to clean it up.

That's always nice to know that the future generation of this city will be raised with all that civic pride.
