Holy |expletive|! WOW. I am now quite nervous. This is now our first moderate risk day (Omaha not technically in it right now, but close enough for me) in how long? Probably at least 5 years? In December...

The gloom and doom seems to be getting worse by the hour..

I started to get an uneasy feeling on Sunday night/Monday morning. Now I’m in full blown “very concerned” mode- and have been for about the last 24 hours.. I hope for as minimal an impact as possible for the area…

I definitely am subscribing to the impending doom feeling today. You can just barely see the low on radar right now right around Denver.

Yeah, unfortunately, I've had this "doom and gloom" feeling basically since I first posted about it about a week ago. I knew it had the chance to be something "historic" for this time of year. Unfortunately, forecast models are verifying and today is likely going to be a pretty dangerous day for some. Hoping any tornadoes that do occur stay in open fields...either way I'll be out there "chasing" them (aka trying and failing to keep up with them)

12z HRRR now showing embedded supercells with tornado potential near and north of the Omaha area around 4 PM (before it was favoring mostly linear storms - so the tornado potential has increased on this model too so now all forecast models are in good agreement with tornado potential, unfortunately)...

Man, I'm getting major derecho vibes. They are talking possible 100 mph winds now. Winds already pretty gusty.

107 mph winds in Lamar Colorado this morning. That’s what I was starting to wonder if this is going to be another Derecho.

Yes sir, the damaging wind will be the primary threat for most but there will almost certainly be some tornadoes too. Unfortunately, this very well could be a repeat of what happened in TN/KY, a few days ago with fast-moving, strong tornadoes.

From the latest SPC outlook:
"Embedded gusts of 75-100 mph and a strong tornado or two are also possible, particularly from extreme eastern Nebraska across western to northern Iowa and southeastern Minnesota." - which includes the Omaha area

Tornado watch will likely be issued by 2 PM for much of eastern NE and western IA including Omaha. Mentions again the potential for strong tornadoes.

How are things going? Currently with most of my family in Orlando right now but some are flying back to Omaha tonight and have had their flights changed so they get back at midnight via Houston instead of 8 via Chicago.

Tornado sirens just went off in Omaha... Sun still out, which is not beneficial. Plenty of warning. I'm thinking they want to be a lot more careful seeing it is December.

NWS posted that they did it for the Severe Thunderstorm Warning which is currently in effect for extreme western douglas county (along with like 8 other counties).

This is undoubtedly one up there with the July 10th (the only other storm the tornado sirens sounded for) storm for alert in 2021... In DECEMBER. |expletive| crazy. |expletive|, its getting close. Gonna unplug all the stuff I don't wanna get fried. I think I/we will all be lucky not to lose power, if not more.

The brunt of the storm just seemed to pass the 114th and Center area. Surprisingly and luckily it wasn’t all that much maybe a few gust around 40 or 50 and some heavy swirling rain, but that was it. May have dodged a bullet on this one. The Power never went out or even flickered.

Watching Cannel 7 and I'm embarrassed for these fools. Sean Everson is having an orgasm over pea sized hail and a tipped over swing set.

This was a huge overreaction to a forecast that didn't come to fruition over as wide of an area that they said. I sat on my back porch through it all and it was a joke.

What's embarrassing are people like you. Just because YOU didn't get hit doesn't mean nobody else did (I know it's a shocker, the world doesn't revolve around you). These storms were serious with 100+ mph winds and tornadoes moving at times 90+ mph. How many tornado warnings are there right now?? How many have touched down already?? I know I saw at least 1 when out chasing these. But now we have to listen to clowns like you whine and moan about how it was a "bust" because it didn't hit you when in reality you know NOTHING about what you're even talking about. Go away troll.

I live in the 120th-132nd and West Center area..

We had some high winds and one gust had to be 80-90 MPH as it shook my entire house..

Thankfully, not seeing much wind damage.. Crazy day. Even crazier- it’s DECEMBER 15th!…

We didn’t have anything close to 80mph at my house. I kept waiting for this to get worse, but then I realized it wasn’t going to get any worse and was basically over. I think between the July 10th storm and the Kentucky tornadoes I am a little skittish still, like a lot of people. The July 10th storm was way worse at least at my house, not even close.

Around 4:15- 4:45, When that first main line came through our place In northeast DoCo, east of Bennington, We had our power go off for about 5 minutes and then come back on, which is strange. I would guess the gusts were in the 75-90 mph range, since it seemed similar to the wind we had earlier in the big storm this summer and the August 202O Derecho. I’m just glad we still have power.

I agree last weekend’s Kentucky/IL, TN, AR storms have everyone on edge, plus the ones we’ve had recently. Can’t blame anyone for being cautious.

Unless someone has some bad damage at their house/apartment or trailer that I haven’t heard about yet, this storm was greatly overhyped. It’s pretty much all everyone has been talking about since Sunday. But, I am very glad it turned out this way. I was dreading picking up a bunch of tree branches and taking them to the city drop off sites and possibly not having power for a while in December. Again between the Derecho, July 10th storm and Horrific storms last Saturday in the mid-south, people were understandably on edge and nervous. Glad it’s over.

We also came out of it pretty well. We never lost power.

Probably after what happened in Kentucky a few days ago, no one really knew what to expect from this one. Rain and hail and tornadoes in December?

The main difference between these storms and July 10th was trees had no leaves this time so there wasn’t the tree damage because of it like there was July 10th. Wind speeds were similar in many areas. I wouldn’t say it was overhyped at all, the damage just wasn’t the same because the lack of tree damage so it didn’t seem as bad...

I'd say we dodged a bullet. 5, 10, 20, 30 miles south, and those tornadoes would have hit Omaha. Luckily we went relatively unscathed. I personally report zero damage, and I was actually posted on my uncovered back porch until it started raining. I would estimate I personally got no more than one brief 60 mph wind gust out of it. No power lost, though a few flickers. I'll admit, I exercised way more caution today than it turned out I needed too, but it was just that close. It was kind if cool to hear the tornado sirens for an actual storm for once. In December, at that. I think we'd be having a different conversation if the leaves were still on trees. I'd easily trade the weather today for a run of the mill 6" snow storm. At yeast ya know what to expect.

Wind speeds where I was south of Elkhorn had to be at least 80 or 90 mph (maybe 100+). It caused my vehicle to even shake. Rain was blowing in through my closed driver side window (which was the direction of the wind). But no widespread tree damage because no leaves.

So far as I can tell, NWS Eppley is reporting 55mph as their peak gust, and that was recorded during the 2:00 hour, before the storm even arrived. But as with the July 10th storm, whatever they report on the hour may differ from what they report after the fact. Heck, I wouldn't be all that surprised if they don't report for Omaha in particular at all. It turned out to be mostly a non-event.

Part of the reason we also likely dodged the bullet in Omaha was the light rain that came through a couple hours prior to the storms. That likely somewhat stabilized the lower levels which decreases the tornado threat. Impossible to know that will happen when forecasting events like this though…

The most remarkable part of today for me was that when you stepped outside, it smelled and felt like spring. It was so weird. Like opening a fresh bag of potting soil. Not indicative at all of the season still to come. It smelled and felt more like May than December. And BTW, today, we did, in fact smash the all time December record high of previously 72 on December 6th 1939. The record now belongs to December 15th, 2021 with a high of 74. It is also the latest 70+ degree day on record.

Unreal the dust that was kicked up by this storm. You can see it from visible satellite earlier being pulled from CO into KS and up into southern NE. Just a monster storm system…

Jeez, might have just had a series of the highest wind gust of the day. No way to measure of course, just going based on feel. Easily going through a period of 60+ mph at my location. And they keep coming.
